@@JU-pq6qu i don't always get burned out. And sometimes when I'm in a low place, i do what i can. The bare minimum like brush my teeth or eat. Shower if i can. Take care of myself as best as I can. Kinda push myself when i need to and let myself be low and do nothing when I'm able. Having a balance and not putting too much pressure on yourself when you're in a bad headspace is very important, especially if you regularly struggle with depression or depressive episodes.
@annaburns2865

@J U It does really work that way. If you don’t force yourself to do things, someone else will or you can be called lazy. And worse case scenario, no one else is there and you really don’t have a reason to get up off the floor. Then you just self destruct and have a panic attack until you fall asleep which you really can’t do very easily because you can having waking nightmares called hallucinations. If you really had nothing to do and no one else to live for then that would probably lead to suicide especially if you are already in a dark place. Your advice is not good.

@J U It is true that depression often comes with apathy and anhedonia, but for some the overwhelming sadness is also part of their symptoms. Of course there are symptoms people have in common, but in my experience depression really does have multiple faces. I think that is why it is so important to follow the doctors advice, because ideally they target your main symtoms e.g sleep problems, exhaustion, anhedonia or sadness. In all cases it is a real disease and not a mood that can be cured by vacation. And sometimes one needs medicine.
@annaburns2865
@annaburns2865 Жыл бұрын
Yes. This is why I hate when they say depression and sadness aren’t the same thing, because sometimes they are. The only difference is, sadness usually goes away. Unless you are depressed. Then it’s like you have a raincloud following you around. Like Eeyore, and occasionally the other characters in Winnie the Pooh. (That show really did explain depression the best way. You can have brief moments of happiness and you can feel anger, frustration, and affection. But you will still be sad too.

@SweetStuffOnMonarchLane

@J U American (of partial German decent 😊) here, and yes, it's definitely a problem for our mental health! The problem is, corporations have taken over our system and now have more rights than individuals because they pay off our lawmakers through lobbying to make the laws to their advantage. I've maxed out or have come very close to maxing out my time off hours a few times (we don't accrue anymore once we max out, so I've lost hundreds of dollars worth of vacation time I couldn't get approved for time off). I'm close to maxing out again, and we continue to have staff shortages... going on for YEARS now... so I still may not be able to use my vacation hours. It's to the point where it's so stressful trying to get a day off, it's not even worth asking, especially when it will probably be denied anyway. They have many excuses, but I bet the higher managers are getting their bonuses for saving the company money, and they're also getting THEIR vacations! Their biggest excuse is "vacations days are not guaranteed and depend on staffing" yet there's NEVER enough staff. WTF?! Burned out? I'm burnt to a crisp! Maybe I should move to Germany... it sounds so nice there! (Edited for spelling/grammar... because my brain is fried!)

Yeah, in that circumstance, for me (officially diagnosed with major depressive disorder), I would feel excited for the trip, and I’ll probably be happy when I land… but after a while (sometimes a day or two, but could be just a few hours), I will feel sad again. Also, sometimes momentary distractions (e.g., seeing a movie) can help delay depression, which sometimes makes me feel like maybe I’m not _that_ depressed. But then I remember I only go to the movies once or twice a year (I used to go monthly). Another weird inconsistency is that when I’m at home, I _rarely_ go out. Like, I’d rather have something delivered than go get it (even when it’s a place right down the street). But then I can get on a plane to see my best (and really, only) friend (who moved 2,300 miles away in 2021). But when I get there, I prefer to stay in his apartment. He’ll sometimes manage to coax me out to go somewhere, but I rarely want to- it’s usually for his sake.

I would be curious to learn more about how burnout happens with things that aren’t just work and school. Like autistic burn out from masking or being burnt out from being chronically ill. A lot of people tend to label me as depressed because of my outward symptoms, I don’t think they understand how much I would love to just to “take a vacation” but I cannot take a vacation from my disability, so all I can do is rest. I do have passions, hobbies, and deep care for many things. My disability takes up so much of my mental energy most days I don’t have the ability to care for those things. I can’t fight it, as much as I wish I could get up and do stuff, Especially helping people, and I don’t enjoy not being able to work either. When i am doing better, people don’t understand it came from days or weeks of rest that they called “depression”. Every time I need space to reset I’m still spending energy defending myself and reassuring others that I’m in fact in therapy and in fact know what I’m doing. Frustrating.

@@malekyounes35 for me, we've established where my depression comes from, which in my case is a variety of factors and experiences. I have a lot of breathing and meditation exercises atm to focus on things that are going well, instead of reliving things that are no longer happening. One of the things that worked very well for me is an exercise where I relive a positive experience while listening to a certain tune of my choice. The idea behind it is that because my brain will associate that tune with the positive feeling I can trick my brain and body into reliving that all because of the tune itself. Severe burnout means you need to remove yourself entirely from the situation and not worry about it for a second. In regards to the example- you would need to quit the job entirely in order to do that

My mom got cancer, i got depressed. Thought i could handle it on my own, even rejected a doctor who recommended anti depressants. So what ended up happening is me failing my first semester of last year of school continuously and going into a not caring what happens to my grades. Well, now i think maybe if i had taken anti depressants i would have gotten better faster. By thirds semester I worked just barely enough to pass. Yeah depression and Chemistry ap calculus ap and physics ap don't really mix well. About my mom she completed chemo beat cancer and now shes on hormone therapy for 5 years. She will be fine inshallah. She did her mammo gram recently and it came clear and she did thr blood tests and her liver which was basically dieing because chemo therapy was killing it along with the cancer. She had breast cancer, her hair is growing back and I am glad we made it through this. Thank God Almighty the creator and sustainer of this universe
