Bus drivers fear for safety after deadly Winnipeg Transit attack

A pair of Winnipeg Transit drivers say they no longer feel safe behind the wheel after a deadly attack left one of their own dead on the job.

A camera does not stop violence. A camera only records the incidents therefore camera's are NOT a safety measure.

mutimerc it is to a certain extent. People do act differently when they know they're being taped. But it won't stop an attack like this.

exactly my point yanipheonu. it is at the very most a deterrant not a safety tool... a winter scarf covering a face could render your argument as bogus.

Yes, a shield will prevent stabbings unlike a camera.

a deterrent is a safety measure. Anything that reduces assaults is a safety measure. It's not all that's needed but it does help.

Maybe it would be a good idea to put up some walls of bullet proof glass around the driver that can't be opened from the outside.

This is really sad because I know bus drivers who love interacting with passengers. They're frequent on routes like the 95 B-Line. It's a shame things have come to this.

Wow this is shockingly strange, a few weeks ago I just watched the Vince Li, Greyhound Passenger attack which I vaguely recall was in the Manitoba/Winnepeg region. Macabre trend? Scary

Gary M Don’t like the idea of me being an a cage but it looks like it’s coming to that. The government has closed mental institutions, they are now walking the streets. Guy in Toronto killed a cop with his own gun and nearly killed the partner. Found not guilty by reason of insanity. Few years later now released allowed to change his name. He walked across in front of me. I ran home to look him up. Went to 22 division they didn’t even know his real name nor the name of the dead policeman. If he gets stopped how does the officer know who he is confronting. Cops and public are sitting ducks!

Sadly city of Lethbridge has not done anything to ensure the safety of the drivers. It is only a matter of before another murder happens
