OMG I totally relate to this situation! I started menopause at 42 but it wasn't until I turned 48 that the weight started to pile up (Depression knocked me out completely out of nowhere!) I lost all motivation in life, I quit running (I am a marathoner) didn't care what ate and life sucked tremendously!. I always maintained a healthy weight of 120-124, always active and eating healthy choices. Back to the struggle with weight at 48, nothing has helped even my 100% Vegan wonderful lifestyle for the last coupe of years and still going strong. After finding Erin's channel I feel like there is hope and there is a change to feel like my regular self again! I just turned 49 last month and I still have 20lb on me that refuse to leave no matter what I try. TAM prices always scared me, but I am now giving it a very strong consideration. Thank you Erin for your honest input because you are about to change my life 🙂

Merci. Thanks. I'm 69 y.o. Two years ago I was at 150... I'm only 5ft. I started Weight Watchers and only by journaling, taking smaller portions of food and walking, swimming and also doing Body Groove (dance exercises) on video, I've come down to 130 last Winter. However, I did it at my own pace, not worrying and mostly not feeling guilty if I cheated once in a while. During the quarantine, I gained almost 10 lbs back. Since May I've lost 5 lbs and I plan to continue until I reach 125 maybe around Xmas. So, I always like to learn about what others are doing to keep their weight in a healthy state. And I wish everybody to come out of this pandemic healthy and stronger. Love you all from Quebec, Canada.

Thank you so much for this. I actually teared up at the end. I’ve never had a weight problem until I had a hysterectomy for medical reasons. It threw me into immediate menopause. The things that I used to do to keep my weight under control no longer work; ie eating smaller portions, cutting out snacks and/or desserts, specific workouts. It’s so demoralizing to try to get dressed and you can’t even pull your jeans up over your thighs anymore....I stood in my closet last weekend and cried trying to find something that fit. What happened?!!! My GYN told me there’s nothing I can do about it, “it’s just part of getting older..” You have given me hope, inspired me. I don’t have to settle. Thank you!

I could have written this myself! Was 110 all my life until my 40s then 120 which was fine. I’m not a teenager anymore. Hysterectomy & quarantine hit, I got up to 157 at my highest and have been hating myself. I would kill to be 127 like these before photos! But I understand not feeling good and wanting to be happy again. This has been particularly depressing because I also love style and have a large closet full of size 4. So far I have lost 8 lbs in two months which feels like a huge accomplishment. With ZERO help from my doctor who, like yours, told me to just accept it. And she is a 60 woman! NOT okay! Looking for a new one now. I realize this was a year ago, but wishing you success on your journey. So many of us can relate ❤️

Omg I just found this channel and I love your sincerity. You’re so real and relatable. I love your sensitivity. I’m 42 and I had always been so skinny. Just to give you an idea, I’m 5’5 and with my first pregnancy I was 118 pounds the day I gave birth. After 4 kids I was 125-128 but after turning 41 my weight started going up to the point that I was 153 during quarantine. I’ve been doing intermittent fasting, hiking and yoga and I’ve lost about 8 pounds. But my goal is to be 125 again. You’re such an inspiration and when you cried, I cried with you because it does take such a toll on your self-esteem and it does suck, especially when you love clothes and they no longer fit. Thank you for being so real and for sharing your story.

I cannot tell you how much this spoke to me. I've put on 20 pounds over the past 4 years. It's been my own doing. After having been active my whole life, I've been mostly sedentary and not watching what I eat. I'm lucky I haven't gained more! When you said "it sucks" about not fitting in your clothes, I felt you. It does suck. I know I'm not obese, but I'm not ME. I'm 5'5' and 20 pounds is 20 pounds. I've been working on it for a month solid, tracking everything and workout out hard 4-5 days a week (with weights and cardio) and seeing slight body changes but minimal scale change. But at almost 45, it makes me wonder if something bigger is at play. THANK YOU for sharing this. I needed this so much right now Erin. 💗

I added 20 pounds at age 38 with working all hours and eating relatively healthy throughout this pandemic on a 5’5 frame that’s always been healthy and muscular at the original 120lb range. It took me 3 months getting back into a longer sleep schedule, incorporating something active every day (like hour long walks and anything more I can handle) and eating super healthy and whole foods to start to feel human again. This sharing is so helpful. Especially as I look ahead to what’s coming with peri menopause and more. Thank you both for your sharing 💗🌹

Me too. People expect that having cancer makes you lose weight.....it’s so bad to have to go through breast cancer and all that happens with that AND to gain weight. Erin is taking hormones, and I have noticed my friends who take hormones are thinner and their skin is better. But we can’t take any hormones. We just age over night. Chemo made me go menopausal over night. Bummer for us. I haven’t given up yet but I feel so uncomfortable and awkward now.

I have been on tamoxifen for 2.5 years. I have gained weight, gotten out of shape and no longer looked or felt like myself. So, I went "old school" during the pandemic and started counting calories (1200+), walking on the treadmill, drinking water, and getting a little extra sleep. Not socializing with any friends or family during quarantine helped me be consistent. I have lost almost 30 pounds and feel wonderful! Hang in there, Helen. I know you can do it!

Busbee Style This happened to me as well. I gained about 5lbs all on my tummy area and nothing worked, Them I decided to try each diet for one month to see what worked. I eat Vegan food except once a month when I have red meat. Make a long story short, what worked for me was cutting starch. I eat fruit, vegetable, nut, healthy fat on regular basis. Have dark chocolate or chia pudding made with almond yogurt and limit alcohol consumption by to a few times a month. I also have been doing intermittent fasting and that has been amazing, it reduced your “grazing times” :-). So in short, see what works for you. my husband is on a completely different food choices and he is very slim, so listen to your body and you will be in a good place.

Loo Loo, I suggest start with checking your hormones. They play a huge role in weight gain/loss during menopause. Once you figure it out, you can work on your diet and exercise. For me, after 2 years of not being able to lose anything, once I started going to a nathuropat and adding a low carb high fat diet and exercise, it really helped. I am now where I used to be before menopause, at 114-115 lbs. I also recommend Dr. Mindy Pelz. You can find her on KZfaq, she is great and helping women in menopause/perimenopause.

I also agree with keto. I try to do keto with keeping my carbs under 50 gr, but I usually get about 60 gr a day. Anyway, I do agree keto's the way to go. As for people getting off keto and regaining the weight, sure, if they go back to a "normal" level of carbs, then yes, they will gain weight.

At last I’ve found someone who understands!!! THANK YOU Erin...I’m 50 and live in Sussex, England and have that horrible spare tyre. I jog for 30 mins most days and do yoga and eat a Mediterranean diet but lately it’s just piled on and I not only feel hormonal but sooo depressed (especially with lock down and the job uncertainty - I’d just begun a career with British Airways - having waited for my kids to fledge - and am now waiting to see if I have a job 😢) I would love to talk to you more and today, bravely too the Day 1 tummy photo (😳😞) You’re an inspiration and I’m so glad I found you! I’m starting the intermittent fasting thing too as I definitely feel good on that. I want to inspire people too so may even post it but it’s scary starting out!! Sally xxx

When you are small, I’m 5’3” 15 lbs is a couple of pants sizes. I want to put something on the radar. I am 45 and had to have a complete hysterectomy at 32 so I’ve been in menopause for a long time. Have your testosterone levels run too. It’s such a game changer. My first symptoms when I am low are low energy, wI feel like I can recover from my workouts. My muscles are just sore and tired all the time. Women need testosterone too and most of us are low. Thanks for the information. I love your channel. ❤️

Hi Erin! You made me tear up as you shared your experience and started to cry. So happy you got to a place that allows you to feel more like yourself and successfully reached your goal. As for me, I'm uncomfortable in my own skin so I get the emotion you were experiencing. It does suck. I gained weight from thyroid issues and then menopause made it worse. You're right about the things you used to do not working, but now I can't even do what I used to do. I also gained weight where I never had before. I've always carried most of my weight in the hips and thighs but after menopause everything shifted. I now gained weight on my back, waist and chest. I'm 5'8" and used to be btw 120-130 lbs. I was never of an athletic build but I was pretty trim. Now, I look like I'm 7-8 months pregnant... all the time! The initial thyroid failure caused a weight gain of 80 lbs in just a few months and my L5 disc became enflamed which caused permanent nerve damage. I've managed to lose 20-25 lbs which took several years to lose but I'm still about 50 lbs overweight. Now all of my lumbar discs are bulging so my exercise options are limited. I'm doing my best to accept myself as I am but for a while I didn't even recognize myself when I looked in the mirror. I stopped wearing makeup, doing my hair and the thought of trying on outfits would literally make me nauseous. I gave up on myself without even realizing it. It's a struggle every day but now I'm making an effort to take care of myself regardless of how much I weigh. My priority is healing physically but I'm working on improving my self-care and appearance. The self-care is no easy task because of the negative inner chatter that takes all my energy to shut up. It can be overwhelming and exhausting, but I take a breath and start fresh. I can't invest in a new wardrobe right now but I just bought a few pieces that will be nice additions to work with the few items of clothes that do fit. These new pieces will also work when I lose the weight so I'm not wasting money. I've also had an unexpected improvement in my hair texture (the result of taking food grade diatomaceous earth which I mentioned in a separate comment to one of your hair videos) that has helped me feel a little bit more like myself. I'm taking it day by day to unlearn the negative conditioning and habits from the past several years to tap back into my awesomeness and see myself in an authentic light. Your videos have been very helpful with insights and tips as an older woman in becoming your best self. You are beautiful, inside and out. Thank you!!!

I just discovered your YT this year, love all of it. Never thought you would have something on Menopause and weight you look soo young and going thru it at 42 is young. I'm 56 yo and only 5.2 so I hear you when you say it really shows when your well not that tall. I went thru Menopause at 47 after 3 children later in life my youngest was when I was 42. Before menopause hit, I was around 125 last year start of 2021 I got on the scales, not eating right and looking after my health I weighed 186 pounds, its simple, like you said cravings set in especially sugar and like you previously I could cut back on sugar and bread and the weight will drop off, well it didn't. I managed to loose 44 pounds in 9 months thru weight watchers now down to 141 not only do I want to maintain this but I needed something new and interesting to keep going, you have done this and inspired me to go back to my salad eating, and give up the meat for now. I hope to achieve another loss this year another 10 pounds but I really don't know if I can get that flat stomach being truthfuly. You look amazing btw.

As a former sugar-aholic, I can promise you you'll feel much better once you remove sugar from your diet. It absolutely causes depression, lack of energy, and a lot of misery. Make some recipes that use erithritol (like Swerve) to get you through the first week that's really hard. Search keto desserts on Insta or Pinterest. You don't have to go dessert free, just get the sugar and high fructose corn syrup out, and you'll be much happier.

I’m 52 and just reaching my 1year mark on being in full menopause. Six months ago I felt absolutely terrible. I went to a physician who specializes in menopause who started me on estrogen/testosterone pellets and progesterone at night ... GAME CHANGER! Then I started carb cycling and committed myself to exercise 4+ days per week during quarantine and am still doing it. I feel so much healthier, happier and toned. Hi Erin, I just discovered your channel today. It has given me hope.Thank you so much. I have put on massive amounts of weight over this COVID period. I truly hate myself and dare not look in the mirror. I am 48 years old and a single mum to a 9 year old boy. My life came crashing down once we went into lockdown, losing all my supports and feeling so demotivated which had been creeping into my life and feeling tired, weight coming on and feeling blah. I have recently been promoted at work and only started a new job at the start of the year. I must be doing something right, I guess? Well, you have truly inspired me to get out of the sweat pants and dress to start feeling good, wear some make up and be love myself again. I have been testing a few new things over the past month. I have gone back to taking Happy Hormones, it has changed my life; getting up earlier and exercising. I love the quiet and I have some space for me. I'm loving Moms Into Fitness. This seems to work for me and I am just taking tiny steps and tweaking things here and there. You are truly authentic and so inspiring without being contrived. I do not need to feel guilty or bad or that something is wrong with me and that it is OK to try something different and see if it works for me. As you say, this won't work for everyone and this is a journey of self discovery and what worked then may or will not work now and all this is fine. I honestly can't thank you enough and I cried right along with you. I can't wait to feel that feeling of being me again. I can't wait to watch more of your inspiring videos and and feel supported and guided on my journey. Thank you and hugs. PS. Sorry for the super long post.

Thank you for this video! Much of what you suggest my ND's put me on and continue to manage and regulate. My menopause started in my early 50's. From Bio-identical hormones to supplements and meds for my Hypothyroidism as well as diet. Which is still low carb low suger but more protein. I have never really suffered through menopause much because these protocols circumvented many if not all the side effects of menopause. My MD's and unfortunately most, do not speicalize in these protocols. I am almost 70 now and look like I am still 50. This is not something you just do for weight control but for a better qualitiy of life and longivity. And you dont just do it until you lose the weight this is for the rest of your life. Love your videos, keep up the great work! And best of luck with your channel and biz!

I was right there with you. I am 61, and since I turned 60, I’ve lost 35 pounds of the 50 I put on due to menopause and health problems. I recognize at my age, I will never be rail thin again, and it’s okay. A little weight helps fill in the facial wrinkles a lot better than any kind of facial work. I look good to me, and that’s the only thing that matters. I have done Keto, WW, the pink drink, high injections, and so many other plans. Nothing worked for me until at age 60, I started Fitness with Lindsay.com. My diet is not as strict as the one Erin’s done. FWL has more protein in it so I feel full, never crazy hungry. I can stay on this diet for the rest of my life, and I do get ice cream, Chilly Cow or Halo-each has a lot of protein, so it helps me meet my protein goal. My husband has lost 20 pounds with a few tweaks to his diet. There are many diet paths, and you might have to try different plans to find the right path for you. Don’t give up!

Reading through a lot of the comments makes me not feel so alone in this journey. I have always been on the thinner side other than having my son and gaining weight through a couple of big moves due to my husband's job. I'm about 5'4 to 5/4 1/2 so I'm around your height. About 3 years ago, I let my weight get out of control. I was the biggest I'd ever been at 152. I woke up one day and decided that I didn't even recognize myself anymore. It took 8 months to lose 23 lbs. I was 127 which is a good weight for my age. But then life happened. I spent a year dealing with a loved ones depression, my husband's company had a new CEO and he had a very stressful year. Then my elderly parents were in and out of the hospital. (I'm an only child) To top it all off, I broke both my knees and couldn't walk for 3 months. I barely ate when I was hurt but I gained 15 lbs back. When I got healthier, I hit menopause. I am almost back up to 150. I am tired and don't feel like doing anything, I don't eat that much, but that doesn't work. It's weird to wake up one day and not feel like you are in your own body. I know that it's time to get myself up and exercising. My knees with always be a problem as they have 4 pins in each knee so my exercises will have to be adjusted but I know that it's time. Thank you for the honest talk about weight and menopause. It's nice to see middle-aged women talking about real life.

Thanks so much for your transparency! You look glowy & amazing! At almost 46, my weight has been up & down since starting to have my children in my 20's. I was finally at a great weight, but got pregnant with twins at 35. My weight spiraled back out of control again for years. I then lost the weight when my doctor told me I was prediabetic. I was fitting into all my pre pregnancy clothes and felt great! Then lo & behold the stresses of life took over & 4 years later I started to put the weight back on. I gained even more being on quarantine. I'm so embarrassed that I am back to the weight I was 6 years ago. I need to lose 25 lbs. At 5'8, people can't really tell how much I weigh due to my height & long limbs. But, I know the difference in how my clothes fit me. I do have signs of menopause going on, and my body does not respond like it used to to the things that once made me lose weight. Intermittent fasting was effective, but caused my blood pressure to spike for whatever reason??? I have to find the motivation again from within. You have inspired me to try again. Thank you! ❤

Thanks for sharing, I have recently found your channel while searching for How to pack for 10 days vacation and I got hooked, then I watched your video this morning about How to hide menopausal tummy, and Im like, what does she know about menopause? Girl!!! I thought you were only between 28-32 yrs old!! You look amazing! And I Love your videos, after watching 2 videos, I subscribed. Im 47 and the struggle is real. Finally got an appointment with an endocrinologist, My labs are normal but my primary said that, the endocrinologist see things that that other doctors dont see, and maybe I will find why I gain weight when I smell food 😂 I lost 25 lbs doing HIIT workout and KETO, but I didnt enjoy it. I gaines back 10 lbs after a work contract ended and I really loved that job, workplace and people that I worked with. I work out 5 days a week strength training. May I’ll give Tracy Anderson a try coz I like getting into a meditative state when excercising. Again Thank you.

I am 37 (today!) and I am totally struggling with extra weight. I thought i had a thyroid issue also but all bloodwork has come back fine... carrying around and extra 30lbs at this point and i feel so uncomfortable. My fiancé doesn't understand what I don't like but when you're use to being slim extra weight just doesn't feel good. I went plant based recently to try to heal my body and will incorporate Tracey A now also. Thank you for this video. Makes me feel less alone.

I started the plant-based/vegetarian-ish diet in April and have lots 15 lbs. It is incredible. I have been heavy for years and have run marathons, worked out, starved myself, did KETO - you name it. But adding more vegetables and less dairy and meat have been the key. I also was in menopause in my early 40's and that was over 15 years ago. Things have changed so much, nutrition-wise, in our world. Thank you for your videos.

I think you would have good luck with intermittent fasting and the KETO diet to loose that weight. Watch Dr. Berg videos to see how to do it correctly. I lost 30lbs in 4 months and the only exercise I did was walk in the morning for 30-40 minutes. The carbohydrates in many foods and not eating the right healthy fats or enough of them is what makes people hungry and insulin spikes keep your body from burning your fat as fuel. You can add back healthy carbohydrates when you get to your target weight. It is great and I use 1 teaspoon of heavy cream in my coffee because it does not spike insulin. You also do not have to give up dairy if it agrees with you.

Like you, I’m petite and all my life at only 5’ I weighed 104-106 and now w menopause I battle 112 and while that seems so little for some people, on a five foot frame and most of it centered on my belly, it feels lousy. I tried a vegan diet but it was just too strict and I was spending literally hours preparing the food so I really appreciate how you’ve incorporated shrimp, fish and eggs with the plant based diet! I hike an hour each day but belly fat not budging but I happen to have Tracy Anderson dvd ( unopened😆)and am going to pull that baby out! I did go on bioidentical estradiol patch and progesterone and feel so much better but your diet and exercise suggestions sound so positive and doable! Petra du Plessis look at Barbara Hoffman, Hope for your Hormones, here on YT. She used to sell vaginal suppositories with different mg. Of Estrogen. Now big Pharma made any natural products that work taken away from public. But, fortunately one can still buy these suppositories, which is good to keep moist and healthy. Although their is fear mongering agenda on Estrogen, there estrogen that one needs is going directly to the area that needs this hormone. There’s is also Progesterone Cream. Besides that you need to do kegels, in order to stay strong there. Do the research, you can get a lot of healing! I started Plant base diet, helps also with the Hot Flashes, I have none! But learned it has to do with Progesterone levels. Meat and chicken (Animal Protein) has a lot of Hormones and will reek Havoc! Hope that helps

OMG, this is SO me. When you chocked up at the end is EXACTLY how I feel and what I'm going through!!! I've always been small, too, and people think I look great but it's not comfortable. What makes me mad is that I DID lose the weight, I got back down to 119 where I felt good and had energy and was so happy how my clothes fit, but then my Dad died and one year later I found out my Mom was hiding cancer from us. I spent 4 months taking care of her until she passed and it took a toll on me in more ways than one. Even she noticed one day because the shirt I was wearing didn't hide it and she felt she was to blame. Broke my heart. I promised her I would lose it again and take care of myself but a year and a half later I'm struggling. I'm still battling the urge to emotionally eat, to get my butt moving again. Just dropping bread isn't working this time! I plan to try some of these ideas and keep tuning in because you are SO encouraging and it sounds like we are very much alike in this journey, nice to know my feelings and symptoms aren't just my weird issues!! Thank you. I don't know why this isn't talked about more, why more women don't share how they struggle and get through some of these feelings. I'm so small chested that any weight on me makes me look pregnant, I have nothing to balance it out, and lord knows I don't need to be looking pregnant at my age!!! LOL!!! All my weight is right there below my ribs, not lower stomach, upper. Ugh!! Thanks again, really!!

Hi! Great to read what you've said. I watched this video a while ago, knew it was here, and rewatched for some inspo. I too gained weight grieving a death- I had just almost all the 10 pounds I gained quitting smoking (yay!) and then a young friend died quite tragically this past November. I think I gained much of the weight back in 2 months! My doctor wants me to lose at least 5 pounds and that shocked me- I too have always been on the very slim side, and that was a first. My current eating habits are evolving and I feel great about that. I'm back to the gym, which works really well for me (weights each time, cardio sometimes). The less alcohol the better. I'm 61, and like you, weight gain now settles so differently than say, when I was in my thirties after each pregnancy. It's a journey, and we don't have to go it alone! Best of luck :)

Well done, Erin. You should be so proud. I think it’s so upsetting when you invest in lovely clothes and then this awful thing happens in spite of your best efforts. I was on keto for 7 years and was size Uk8. Then menopause arrived and a sturdy Uk12 in spite of exercise, low carb, and intermittent fasting and zero sugars. It is a battle. I don’t even want to be size Uk8, a Uk10 would be the goal. xx

dellfeld4ever It’s been working for me. I’m in a similar situation as Erin, and have tried everything too. I definitely recognize every emotion of hers. The only reason I’m still in normal weight is because I’ve always been good at dropping off extra weight. Now with menopause, it sure ain’t that easy anymore. Lately I’ve gained a few lbs, as I forgot to replace the batteries of my scale, but I’m working on it. Wish I could get back to exercising as well, but perhaps soon. My advise to anyone is: don’t start ”next Monday”. Statistically, you’re more likely to fail.

Hi Erin! I'm 57 and still feeling the effects of menopause....hot flashes and the rest. My menopause started at 50. I have the added complication of hyperthyroidism which started a couple of years ago and was triggered by my menopause. I am 5'6” and weighed 222 lbs then. While hyperthyroidism was developing (I didn't know about it), I was already on a strict diet and had lost a LOT of weight - a whopping 60 lbs. About half the weight loss was due to this condition...I was happy about the weight loss but not feeling well. Now, my hyperthyroidism is controlled under doctor supervision but I am left with weight gain again and all of the other symptoms you mention. I gained back 20 lbs. Proper diet and exercise is key now.. I have looked at plant-based eating - same as you... I also looked at the G.I. diet (glycemic index) which diabetics and those with a heart condition follow. G.I. diet is effective and very healthy but slower than plant-based if you want to lose weight. I am back on tract with diet now and have been looking for an effective exercise program. I run a bit but as with you, pilates and yoga are not enough anymore so I'm glad you mention the Tracy Anderson mat workout. I'll try this and check back with you. My goal is to lose those regained 20 lbs and lose another 10 to my ultimate goal of around 150 lbs. That would be ideal for me according to my doctor.. to be a Medium or size 10...Wish me luck!

@@silviasullivan2200 I was 5'4" as a young adult but now at 58 I am a little less. I don't call myself "short". I call myself "fun-sized". I have an average build so petite clothes don't fit me all over and are sometimes too short. I find myself buying regular fit clothing and having the length taken up. I also have an average shoe size of 7.5 which means whenever I go shoe shopping I strike out nearly every time because they never have the shoe I want in my size...frustrating!

@@ISing4Jesus6353.... Oh, I totally understand the whole shoe thing. It's madness! Just atleast try to be happy that most brands actually make your size tho. Like I'm 5'3 but I wear a size 12 shoe. Most brands don't even go that high! Hell, even finding size 10s was hard when I was younger, and I thought I had it rough then, but now that I'm older and my feet have gotten bigger and wider it's an absolute nightmare trying to find shoes that fit, and even harder finding ones that I think look cute and are actually affordable. Hey Erin! My weight problem started at age 69 when I was diagnosed with temporal arteritis and went on Prednisone to help ! 60 mgs of Prednisone made me rabid for food ! I gained 40 pounds like that ! Now at 70 I am trying to lose it but other people keep getting my way . The social eating is getting me down and I know I could be thinner quicker if I did not have all these people around me trying to feed me ! As it is I have lost 15 pounds and have 15 to go ! Wish me luck as the prednisons has also upped my shoe size a whole number and given me curly hair ! I am a whole different woman at 70 and I just have to go with it ! But I intend to lose that weight and I will ! God bless and thank you for sharing your story ! Love you 😍
