More about Bushido:
Bushidō (武士道?), literally "the way of the warrior", is a Japanese word for the way of the samurai life, loosely analogous to the concept of chivalry. The etymology of the Japanese word bushido, stemming from the Zhou Dynasty (1111--256 BCE)(Zhang, and Fan, 2003) or (1818-221 BCE)(de Bary, and Bloom) Chinese text Zhou bi 周髀 (Cullen, 1996) and word wushidao (武士道), loosely meaning a soldier well-trained in martial arts. The subword "wushi," (武士) when bifurcated into two parts, the first term "wu" (武) describes a person competent in martial arts such as King Wu, with the second term "shi," (士) meaning army. The two characters together (武士) meaning warrior or palace guard. The last part of the word, "dao" (道) is the same as "do" in Japanese, meaning "way of" (Dao, 2003) such as the Japanese martial art Kendo (剣道) "way of the sword".
The Japanese understanding of the word is predicated on the samurai moral code stressing frugality, loyalty, martial arts mastery, and honor unto death. Born from Neo-Confucianism during times of peace in Tokugawa Japan and following Confucian texts, Bushido was also influenced by Shinto and Zen Buddhism, allowing the violent existence of the samurai to be tempered by wisdom and serenity. Bushidō developed between the 9th and 20th centuries and numerous translated documents dating from the 12th to 16th centuries demonstrate its wide influence across the whole of Japan, although some scholars have noted "the term bushidō itself is rarely attested in premodern literature."
Under the Tokugawa Shogunate, aspects of bushidō became formalized into Japanese feudal law.
According to the Japanese dictionary Shogakukan Kokugo Daijiten, "Bushidō is defined as a unique philosophy (ronri) that spread through the warrior class from the Muromachi (chusei) period."
The word was first used in Japan during the 17th century.[10] It came into common usage in Japan and the West after the 1899 publication of Nitobe Inazō's Bushido: The Soul of Japan.
In Bushido (1899), Inazō wrote:
...Bushidō, then, is the code of moral principles which the samurai were required or instructed to observe.... More frequently it is a code unuttered and unwritten.... It was an organic growth of decades and centuries of military career.
Seven virtues of Bushidō
The Bushidō code is typified by seven virtues:
Rectitude (義 gi?)
Courage (勇氣 yūki?)
Benevolence (仁 jin?)
Respect (禮 rei?)
Honesty (誠 makoto?)
Honour (名誉 meiyo?)
Loyalty (忠義 chūgi?)
Associated virtues:
Filial piety (孝 kō?)
Wisdom (智 chi?)
Care for the aged (悌 tei?)

"Wherever I go, everyone is a little safer because I am there. Wherever I am, anyone in need has a friend. Whenever I return home, everyone is happy I am there." --Robert L. Humphrey (The Warrior Creed) To those that are not students of Bushido and comment negatively upon it,(Warrior Lifestyle) I suggest learning for yourself. The warrior will carefully consider his speech, not simply to keep himself out of trouble, but because his speech is a part of his character. It is best for the warrior to be more introspective. He should communicate more with himself than with others, focusing on making himself the best he can be, instead of being interested in the choices of others. “Remember this: whoever lives a life of chance will in the end find himself a victim of chance. The right way is to think, to examine, and to consider every detail carefully, even the most minute.” --Francesco Guicciardini

This is a romanticized version. Samurai were often cruel towards peasants and it was not uncommon for them to switch sides in a battlefield if they were outnumbered. Most of the writings about samurai came about during the 200 years of peace japan experienced, written by samurai who never fought in a battle or war Something to keep in mind..

The context of that verse in John's Apocalypse is that those who are of Christ and live by his "Sword" will be martyred by those who wield the sword against the logos which does not mean gramma or glossa but the Body out of which all comes and returns. I would like to see Christians learn the languages of their sacred texts. Blessings and wisdom to all, and most especially the highest quality of Love not rendered so well in English.

@@nickwoln8656 "live by the sword, die by the sword" comes from matthew (26:52), not from the apocalypse of john. and what it means is, that if you choose the sword, you choose death, where for jesus tells peter to put his sword down. i wish those who choose to educate others would first make sure they know what they talk about.

@@WhatwouldRoddyPiperdo There's a section where he talks about honoring your enemies. Perhaps my perspective is influenced by the Tao Te Ching, but I think that even Nitobe would have agreed that the inclination towards violence is not the natural course for those who practice Bushido. In the words of the Dao: his enemies are not demons, but human beings like himself. He doesn't wish them personal harm. Nor does he rejoice in victory. How could he rejoice in victory and delight in the slaughter of men? He enters battle gravely, with sorrow and great compassion, as if he were attending a funeral.

What the Bushido did to both civilians and to American and Allied troops in WWII is one of the biggest collective injustices done to mankind. I do not support your channel in any way because you honor their ways. I took time to look through your playlist, seeing everything was based on the United States Marine Corps, only to find you throw in this evil entity as though it’s somehow respectable and ‘honorable.’ It is not, as they plainly made it so. No excuses for you, none. Shame on you, for your outward stance on patriotism and the Corps only to see that you honor the code of the enemy after the brutal and horrific ways they persecuted humankind as they stood behind their “Bushido code.” There was no honor then; there is no honor still. You disrespect every American and Allied WWII veteran and every patriotic American citizen by supporting the “code” of the enemy. Shame on you, in the memories of my family who served honorably, whose patriotism remains red, white and blue, not Red. You, sir, are disgraceful. And if you wear the uniform, you certainly disgrace it and do not deserve to wear it. Semper Fidelis

Bushido, or the way of the warrior; is very similar to the European code of chivalry. Bushido worships athletic prowess and the sword; but also was somewhat influenced by Confucian philosophy such as respect for nature and a life of frugality. That any man needs ideals that both guide him through life and give his existence meaning. Part of the code of chivalry was that it was the duty of a knight to fight fiercely not only for his own rights but the rights of any downtrodden, oppressed people. That being a warrior is not only about fighting, but living by principals which guide his actions and his words. Such ideals I guess are for men better then myself.

The difference is also drastic. The Bushido's concept of loyalty, brotherhood, and glorious death are much more intense compared to the Chivalry's counterpart version if it exists at all. A samurai is not expected to live to old age but die a glorious death at the climax of battle. The mortal combat itself is viewed by samurais as a way to achieve enlightenment. Samurais are expected to spend their entire life to prepare for their glorious death in battle. Samurais also show no mercy to their enemies because they believe that cowards deserve to die painfully and bloody while a glorious worthy death is also the best gift one can bestow to another wayward soldier. Samurais regularly behead their defeated foes and and worship and decorate their opponent's head and sent the ornate head back to the deceased family as a honorable act if the said person died honorably. Samurais also worship the dead spirits of the worthy foes whom they slaughtered in shrines along side of their dead comrades. Yusakuni shrine was supposed to be the resting place of the spirits of the Imperial Army, and the fact that Japanese government still worship it is a controversial issue even today. Some would categorize Samurai society as a martial death cult and they would not be wrong. Samurais are expected to live lives more akin to warboys from Madmax Fury Road (prepare their entire life for that "Witness Me" moment) or Nordic Valhallic warrior culture (ascend to Valhalla) than anything else.

@@pypy1986820 “Bushido” is a 19th century invention imposed into history. There was no “Bushido” as we know it today. And no, samurai weren’t loyal to the end, there’s endless accounts of samurai switching sides and backstabbing their lords. The only thing they were loyal to is whoever paid. “expecting to die in battle” is also a load of bs, that’s a great way to lose your entire army. The reason warriors who died in battle were so honored is because it WASNT expected, those are just the ones that sacrificed it all. “Bushido” is propaganda used to make Japanese men sacrifice themselves during WW2, which caused them to quickly run out of men and lead to their defeat.

@Relativecriticism I think Japan is one of those few places where the influence of Christianity did an overwhelming amount of non political good. Its exactly what was needed because it had compatible parts with the culture but its values of mercy etc. Japan was waning in Japan during the 1500s. It reawakened the values of Shinto/Buddhist/Taoist Japan and addressed built up hypocrisies.

I don't believe Christianity teaches these things. Christianity may pay lip service to these, but it seems to me that christianity is the theological expression of American exceptionalism. It teaches that although morals and ethics exist, they don't matter, and a Buddhist saint is hellbound, and the child rapist/murderer will be with Jebus in eternal light and love if he will just ascribe to this belief. It's like the ethos of the GOPig party. "Anything we do is fine because its us. Anything anyone else does must meet with our approval

So... you took a public domain audiobook produced by volunteers at Librivox.org, uploaded it as a KZfaq video, and then copyrighted it, with all rights reserved? Folks, please support the actual volunteers who created this audiobook: librivox.org/bushido-the-soul-of-japan-by-inazo-nitobe/

+nanolith From what I remember, Librivox itself (in the little print in the front matter) allows for this so long as you leave in the little print and do give credit. Probably they have the same policy for audio. (The poster listed the credits in the description) However, I do believe Librivox asks for a piece of the profit if you monitize your published version of it -- which would only be fair.

If you listen to post malone you really shouldn't criticize even the worst of faiths or anything for that matter.. Try learning to separate from your ego since you're attracted to eastern philosophy or beliefs. (Not that it's exclusively their doctrine but w/e) It may seem irrelevant to you now but your elegant discernment and any other "admirable" qualities are disgracefully despotic on the surface anyhow. S/N religions don't directly effect your political point of view or lack there of as that's a very short sighted summary, not denying they cannot, but do not require you to subscribe to a particular political party.
