This is a good book. Does provide a step by step introduction to how to build things kzfaq.infoUgkxhgbP-6hUnXu_QRaoHgLztgsI0YF3HqR0 , also does offer some steps. Includes pictures to give you ideas for layouts and such. If you are looking for a guide, this is not exactly what you want. But if you are trying to familiarize yourself with the way that pole barn building and other out buildings, are made, then this will work just as you need it to. A few things in this book are a barn (of course), detached garage, storage building, and coops.

But building homes are different than coops, sheds & barns. Also if you must follow code in your area then there are a lot of other rules to follow also. So beware. Not all building are built the same.

I read the entire Ryan’s kzfaq.infoUgkxGqOCINHE0Z0E5gxzSdNi9NWGugRY5Hm2 Plans and was able to make a shed plan. Using Ryan’s Shed Plans alone, the shed itself is great. Where I wish I knew more is with respect to ground preparation and foundations. Maybe that's beyond the scope of Ryan’s Shed Plans.

I worked rnches for year(horses) so I'm not worried bout heavy lifting. Don't know hat you can do until you try. Thank you very much. God bless, Cowgirl

If you plan to live year-round off the grid, you should take a look at "Life Uncontained" KZfaq channel as they have built a solar array, catch and store rainwater, and more. It took them a while to make it fully livable year round but lived in a camper and barn until it was livable.

Having near zero spatial awareness and dyscalculia is my problem. That's why I might need to get a ready cut house package with instructions.😂 But a house like this for a holiday home is something that's very common in my country. Spending your weekends and summer holidays in a small cabin with usually very little to no amenities is the norm, and a cabin would probably turn into a full time residence sooner rather than later if I ever get one built. 😊

My dad wrecked me. I spent so many hours watching him build stuff, I see a video like this, and frankly, it's better than any movie. It's fascinating, it has cliffhangers (like how is he going to _____? fill in the blank), and a satisfying end. Nothing I enjoy more. Thank you for all the work of filming (and editing) this entire basic build.I REALLY enjoyed the commentary. I love watching other channels, but often, they don't explain the basic stuff like you do, so when I'm missing information, I know it's coming. Thoroughly enjoyable! Stay Radical!

Dave, I really can't thank you enough for these videos. A few years back we baught a 12x20 "Amish built" shed for my son and finished out the inside as a dry cabin (his intellectually disabled and can't live on his own, but understands the concept of growing up and moving out on account of his 3 siblings...this was a way to give him a sense of ownership and separation without risking a lack of supervision which he requires). This really sparked a desire in us to buy a substantial peice od land and make a family camp. Our family is split into 2 states on either side of the Appalachian range and so the plan is to build 7 small living structures and a "bath house" (water catchment shower/sauna/outhouse) and a large communal outdoor kitchen with covered roof. Some of our kids are looking at hard sided yurts, one brother is looking at permanent travel trailer shed with solar powered batteries for hookups, and the "teenager generation" is very excited to live in dug out structures and tree houses they build themselves. The newlyweds are excited about raising the grand children in the wilderness away from the trappings of modern amenities. You've given us great inspiration and really wonderful instruction and tips. 🙏💚

I was lucky enough to find 5/8" plywood from shipping pallets to build my entire cabin. I used architectural shingles as siding and it keeps the squirrels and mice out. I used the T 1-11 siding for the outhouse and the squirrels have absolutely chewed holes everywhere. Nothing beats a 2 person cabin in the back country. My wife refuses to go with me (too primitive) so i found an abandoned baby beagle pup last year who is more than happy to take her place at the cabin. He's even got his own recliner.

Thank you, Dave, for another compelling and soothing video. If I was young, I would be out there doing what you are doing, but I am now wheelchair-bound and can't go out of my home without an ambulance because I have no ramp for my wheelchair. So I truly do live vicariously by watching others do what I would love to do. I have always been a nature lover and up until about five years ago, I was always walking, taking hikes, and finding nature wherever I could find it. But this is my cross that I must bear, and it has brought me to a place where I can rest completely and peacefully in God, for He is good. 🙂

Bianca, we all experience dark times in our lives and you are not alone!!! While I had a super dark period a number of years ago losing my son and his mother, I am currently dealing with another after having reconstructive knee surgery. I'm coming alone but far slower than I want! I have personally realized just how much we talk for granted, like simply walking. I am learning to walk all over again. Also, I have donor tissue, which gave me a new outlook on things and life! So I hope your dark period ends soon and you get back to a sunny bright life! Hope to also see you build your own cabin!😉👍👍 God Bless 🙌 🙏

And that's after rewinding many segments and rewatching them! Dave, you are an artist....in so many different ways. You are so inspiring. Thanks Dave. Its interesting to hear how weather plays a part on the build over there. We are similar here in the uk and we get mostly rain now rather than ice and snow. I've danced around on roofs with tarps and instead of using a bucket to remove what seems like a ton of water that had gathered like yours had, I tried to push it off with a broom and it came down on top of my head. Some days are not so great but others go so smooth. Thats the building trade.

Very encouraging. I follow KZfaq vids. to fix my cars and just about any other home DIY job there is. I, like many, have often thought about escaping to some remote place and doing something like this and never being seen again. He, for the first time for me, actually made it seem possible. Starting with getting the land cheap due to the type of land then followed by helping me to realize I "don't" have to permanently disappear but rather use it for that honest, true retreat and then back to the regular way of living. I can take this video with me and literally accomplish this goal. It may take me twice as long but I now know, with this, I can do it. Whether I ever actually do is yet to be seen but at least I know I can. TY sir.

Such a pleasure to watch, Dave! From the overall build to the narration you really nailed this build--pun intended! The Upper Peninsula is so beautiful it just makes an ideal setting for cabins like yours. I really look forward to your finish video in the spring, and maybe you can include a short segment showing every tool and their primary use plus cost. Thank you for such quality content, and that includes your outstanding film work and editing. Well done! Like button smashed!!

Watching you build that cabin in the quiet wood is more therapeutic than anything else! The knowledge and narrative of what and why you're doing is super helpful. Thank you.

Dave, been watching you guys for awhile. My wife and I live in Nenana AK and have a cabin up on the Nenana River which we love. So, we know exactly what your talking about with these builds you do. Really appreciate the hour and twenty minute video and enjoyed every minute of it. Also appreciated your prayer before your breakfast! Blessings on you and Brooke!!!

I built a cabin and lived in it up off Goldstream out of Fbks for a few years myeself. The building of this structure was basic, well to us builders it was. But holy cow, your ability to capture it all, narrate it so eloquently was incredible! Gosh I'm so impressed and thank you for producing this because I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Enjoyed this video! I learned a few more interesting needed things from you. 👍 You really explain & video things clearly. You have much to proud of in your life, helping and inspiring others are only 2 of them. You and Brooke have inspired me to build a cabin on my property, won’t be off grid - but will have a woodstove. I’m a bit over 60, so those of you who are older….dream big and go for it!!!

Nice to see you on again Dave. Freaking loved the video. I'm always stoked when either of you guys post, but if you don't, I just know you're out in the woods somewhere, being radical, and getting happy. Thanks for the videos and for your faith, your great attitude and your work ethic. It is so refreshing to me.
