The July 4th weekend is consistently the busiest weekend of the year for firefighters, the 2021 holiday being no exception. Crews around the Sacramento region worked non-stop through the night responding to fires and emergencies of all types. This video shows footage from five of those incidents.
1-Water rescue, Claybanks, American River. Crews responded to reports of a man that fell off a kayak and had not resurfaced. Firefighters and Park Rangers searched from land, boat, and helicopter, but were unsuccessful in locating the victim. The search was called off at sunset, and a diver located the deceased victim the next morning.
2-3-Alarm commercial structure fire, 4160 14th Avenue, Sacramento. Crews responded to reports of a fire in the truckyard of a mattress factory. Engine 6 arrived to find multiple trucks on fire as well as a heavy fire load of mattresses and mattress making supplies on fire. The fire spread quickly to the inside of the factory, and the response escalated to 3 alarms.
3 & 4- Vegetation fires, Elk Grove. Crews responded to countless grass and brush fires of varying size. The two featured in this video were located within the City of Elk Grove and were quickly contained without injury or structure damage.
4-Residential structure fire, 7200 Block Dutch Flat Drive, North Highlands. Crews responded to the third working structure fire in North Highlands in less than 30 minutes. Arriving crews found heavy fire involving multiple boats in the driveway of a home. The fire had extended to the attic and garage of the home prior to Fire Department arrival. Crews made a quick knockdown of the fire, and the resident was awakened and able to escape unharmed.
