A bit of history: In the 1950’s, Auto Manufacturers moved into the City of Detroit for the easily obtainable resources and easy shipping routes. However, after the Fuel Crisis in the mid 1970’s, the stock in the automotive industry took a swan dive. Major manufacturers such as AMC and Oldsmobile were forced to either shut their doors completely, or cut back significantly on their models. Even now, in 2021, Detroit’s economy is on a steady and somewhat scary decline. Perhaps in the next 20 years the city will be a ghost town in its literal meaning.

I live about a half hour from Detroit, and please just let me say, I've seen a lot of improvements and there are so stunning parts of Detroit now. It seems like you don't get to see it too often, but there are some pretty nice parts. Yes, a lot of it is garbage, but go look up some pics I think you could find some

Those hoses supplying them with water are hopefully drinking water grade. Garden hoses tend to have materials that aren't safe for drinking.

Its sad seeing Detroit in older films as being so beautiful and brilliant. I've never been there so I can't say off personal experience how it is but its so sad the state the towns in now.

What a crappy situation. I used to visit that coffee shop regularly when I worked in Detroit. It's a cool little place. As for the Wurlitzer and the Metropolitan Building, they're known as brick throwers. On more than a few occasions, vehicles have sustained damage in the alleys around them. In one case, a cornice brick from the Metropolitan Building found its way through the roof of a very nice Ford F-150.

They placed rags over the fittings so no one could loosen them by hand The duct tape is to secure those rags. This also could be to hold on some type of freeze protection. Metal fittings can conduct the cold. Looks like both buildings should be demolished.

I'll bet that city officials continued to draw their pay all during the time they demonstrated their ineffectiveness and incompetence. Those buildings didn't become dangerous suddenly; there had to be evidence of structural deficiency years ago and yet the city was incapable of fixing the problems.

So the city should have the build appraised, very conservatively, forcibly buy it and demolish it. The building is dangerous and the owner isn't doing anything about it.

The city should sue the building owner for loss in revenue from the businesses hooking up to a free water supply.

I wonder what happens when a building is a safety issue like that but the owner literally has no money to fix it...? I imagine if he could the building would have been maintained and used for business. It really just needs to be torn down. I don't think selling it is really much of an option.
