Busy day on Wellington's Railways (ft. Matangi EMUs, KiwiRail freight and AB 608) ~ 24/01/2023 (HD)

Жыл бұрынA busy Tuesday with railfanning on the Wellington to Waikanae section (branded as the 'Kapiti Line', though it's actually the North Island Main Trunk), with a short break to visit Woburn on the Hutt Valley Line.
As usual, we've got plenty of Matangi electric multiple units with some KiwiRail freight services to boot (all hauled by the DL locomotives). Other things to look out for include DFB 7307 on the Capital Connection and steam locomotive AB 608 coming back from Shannon with a private charter.

I've noticed how Australian/New Zealand trains are very influenced by American ones. For example, in America we use mostly six-axle diesels, with knuckle couplers, and two-axle trucks under each railcar. In Australia and New Zealand, I'm seeing a lot of six-axle diesels with knuckle couplers and freight cars with two-axle trucks, and even ditch lights! The export designs aren't my favorite, however.

Given what you said in the commentary, why didn’t you knock off Paremata when you had the chance. You could have gotten some good footage of trains crossing the bridge over the inlet. Great to see the stabling movement at the end of the video

Because I wanted a sun-lit roster shot of a Matangi (the one you see in the thumbnail), which you can't get at Paremata because it's got an island platform.
