A busy evening at Cardiff Central station on "The Eve of Christmas Eve" December 23rd 2019. Seemed to be quite a lot going on, filmed during the evening peak, even though most people had already finished work for the holidays. For the railways a standard Monday evening service was in full swing. This was also my first time seeing class 170 turbostars in operation for TfW.
INCLUDES: Class 37's (BR Large Logo on Rhymney peak service and Top n' Tail Network Rail test train), DB Schenker 66's, 67013 on the WAG service to Holyhead. As well as GWR HST's, IET's & 166 Turbo's. TFW 175's, 150's & Pacers and Cross Country 170.
All of this was filmed in about 45 mins. Lots of variety. 37's, 66's, 67, HST's, IET's and loads of DMU's! Not bad going at all.

It's weird to see wires up in Cardiff, as well as Class 165s/166s, 170s (only at TfW) and shortened 2+4 HSTs!

Any ideas what services the TfW 150s, 153s, 170s and GWR Turbos were working please? I suspect Turbos were on Cardiff - Portsmouth and HSTs on Cardiff - Taunton. Not sure about the others

"Fishing rods, balloons, flags, and selfie sticks near overhead wires is dangerous"? Nice to see a modern updating of the old warning notice, although that would have to be a pretty big selfie stick

I didn’t have any issues there was quite a few people around actually for the 37’s

The staff don't care about it there's always people filming.

Though a capital city station, "CDF" is still a TOC-managed station (TfW Rail) so Network Rail's asking permission / badge policy for taking photos / videos of trains doesn't apply. In fact, as part of the security there's basically a "don't hang around, either be a passenger *or* a spotter" policy in place!

Yeah the HST’s do Cardiff to Taunton services & sometimes further towards Penzance. But only as short sets, 4 coaches. Not into London. All London services are the IET’s

Castle sets tend to do Cardiff - Taunton and Plymouth - Penzance. Occasionally Taunton runs may get extended to Paignton or Exeter but I don't think they go all the way from Cardiff to Plymouth or Penzance
