BUT HOW DO I COPE WITHOUT MY DISORDERED EATING? LIFE AFTER DIETS PODCAST EPISODE 98
Come join us in person in Dublin on Saturday 16th September 2023! www.lifeafterdietspodcast.com...
#disorderedeating #dietculture #vlog
What if food (bingeing or restricting) is the way you cope? In this episode Sarah and Stef dive into:
What does the disordered eating help solve?
Stef finds restriction the bigger gap; for Sarah, it’s the binges.
How do we make our own cocoons if it’s not with food?
Stef’s somatic practice for overwhelm
Depression energy coming up without the ED
How yoga helped Sarah go “micro” and anchor into something smaller than existential loneliness and lows
The role of safety in being able to let go of ED behaviors (because we know they work)
The Burnout Cycle (per authors Nagoski)
How does Sarah not panic?
Fear of death (how did we get to that part of this conversation??)

I believe having a routine is helpful as well, because it is something to look forward to when everything is uncertain. My morning routine is having a cup of coffee while listening to your podcasts or videos and I laughed when Sarah said that because that is SO ME. 😅😂

Wonderful episode. I can totally relate to what Steph said about apologizing to her kids and feeling guilty about not just stopping her action instead. I did that, too (my kids are now adults), and hearing this helps me validate and accept myself. And Sarah, thank you for the ropes on the Ganges comment. What a powerful visual. The urges are like the current. I get swept away in them unless I have something to hold on to. Now I just gotta find my ropes. ✨️💕

I could have written this comment myself, except for my sons are still children. Human experiences are not unique after all, and I find it so reconforting. (Just out of curisiosity, I"m from Brazil, 44 yr old, I have two boys, 8 and 11 yr old).

From behalf of all the mothers who could not stop the circle thank you for the advise Stefanie and yes it was VERY important to share it I wished research had looked into the issue of the guilts created to older generations who did the best in their time and space and yes Sarah it can clear it up for the kids that they may be able to change our faults and practices or not but not to worry because it is a pendulum; I make it better by making it clear to my kids my faults are not their fault. I may not be able to give the whole correction right now but they may not be either but if they can do a baby step like me recognising and asking for forgiveness they may go a seat forward in the bus and thus being able to apply the beginning at least of the correction I did not make and thus be better mothers . Welcome to the messed world of humanity. Yes Sarah you are right we are humans not exemplary evidence of the rules we create and try to live up. How many women overeat from the guilt of not being appropriate mothers?
