When The Caligula Effect 1 and 2’s rereleases were announced, I wondered if they were truly necessary, but I also had a big want to do the Ostinato Musician route in the first one, so that was excuse enough to check things out for myself! Hope you enjoy my Caligula Overdose PS5 thoughts, let me know your thoughts on Caligula in the comments!

I just recently played both the first and second game and i absolutely LOVED it. If you havent played it before I srongly recommend it. Both games are such a fun ride.

If I remember correctly Caligula Overdose doesn't have any PS4 pro support so even on playing the PS4 version on PS5 is likely just going to be 1080p 30fps still, while the PS5 version is likely a native 4K but still 30fps going off the footage

Idk if its a format you have any interest in Tara but I've been thinking you would do awesome with a Podcast!! Ive been listening to some of your vids in the car on my way to work recently, especially your video essays, and honestly i find it still a super enjoyable way of experiencing your content. You're a great presenter with a lot of energy and a good voice for it!!

Planning to buy this when the Caligula 2 PS5 release comes out to get them together. Huge fan of both games and can't wait to play them with a bit better fidelity on my PS5.

If your getting this physically I recommend getting it when they come out because these games will get out of print real quick.

I doubt it considering it is a re-release of a very niche game with mixed reception that can technically already be played on PS5 already. On NISA's store it still at 76-100 percent stock. If it dips low I will get it earlier than usual, but I doubt it will come to that.

the fact that nisa keeps doing these ps5 versions without a free upgrade and expecting people to pay 50 dollars for these unnecessary rereleases, whether its ys 8 and 9, Caligula overdose and 2 with no free upgrades expect 50 dollars is unacceptable, i rather spend my money on the new games coming out than wasting 50 dollars on a pointless port that they expect full price, nothin in these ports is worth spending 50 extra dollars on top of the 50 dollars i pay for the orignal versions years ago.

Never played or had much interest in Caligula Effect 1 but I took a chance with the sequel as it was at a discount and because I heard it was more of an improvement over the first one. Thankfully I really enjoyed it and even platinum-ed the game. Not sure if I'll get the PS5 remasters but if they are strong enough improvements, I might change my mind.

They likely used pre-rendered scenes for their supers which is why they weren’t upscaled with the rest of the game, SD Gundam G Generation Cross Rays on Steam is the same each attack is a cutscene and as such pre-rendered rather than being rendered in real time so even if you boost the game to 4K the attack animations will be in the same resolution regardless of the games resolution.

I figured FuRyu were just doing basic remasters for this for the sake of it and i'm genuinely okay with that lol. Having missed out both physically on PS4 / just not having time, to a backlog that keeps growing - being able to get both physically on the PS5 running at a smooth 60fps is nice! Definitely planning to pick up both day one for sure! Thanks for the info Tara, as always - stellar work! :)

no its a nisa america doing this, unless u forgot they also did ys 8 and 9 ps5 versions and now doing the 2 claigula games, and all 4 have no free upgrade and just expect you to pay full 50 dollars for them, so its nisamerica making ponltess ports and being very greedy in pricing

The alternative ending is one of my fave "bad" endings in the games I played. I wish they added dub because there's so many more fun characterisations with in-game chatter. Specially the characters lines during battles in the alternative ending. Also Sweet-P one of the nicest characters in the entire game.

I wish they'd added more references to the anime, and had Mu's default song being "Tir na nog" instead of "Orbit" since it reflected her mental state at the time better

@@Restartkun Lol, hopefully they do then (Even though things would be out of whack due to Ritsu being the last one awakening. But what role would FeMC have, his sister? Be a nice touch if she was, lol)

I was hoping they would at least add an english dub but oh well. I'll probably check it out. Always was interested in it and i never knew it had a sequel lol. Guess i forgot about it and now I can play them.

I'm currently playing through the PS4 version,i'm at a fight with a character called Wicked. I've found her tough, so ijust wanted to check what level i needed to be at without getting any spoiler information. To my surprise for whatever reason i'm fighting her solo,but in the videos i saw, there's a full party against her but i'm not sure why that is?.

Well done finishing it, but oh no for your save! I started getting into the student stuff in this playthrough and already I would be so upset if I lost mine >< you should be proud of your efforts at least!

A good and fair question I initially meant to cover (but didn't cause the load time doesn't bother me in either version I guess 😅) I had a quick look through my footage for both; the start game load time seems to be the same for both (PS4 actually seemed to load a little quicker, although I was in different areas for both save files, so maybe not a perfect comparison) I did find a social event I happened to pop on both files during this re-play time period though - the PS5 version did load the area change during the event a couple of seconds quicker than the PS4 version. So, there might be a small difference :3 I don't find the load times a big issue on PS4/PS5 (I remember the Switch maybe being a longer, but just from memory) either way personally, but I hope that helps and adds a bit more detail! It's not a thorough test by any means, but it would make sense if it was faster!

I finally played ryza 3 I liked 2 better. I don't understand why atelier marie remake ain't getting a physical in the west.

Ryza 3 was awesome, probably on par with 2… it definitely looked better.. but is that the reason I think it was better? Hmmmm, actually you might be right, 2 might be better… another play through is needed :)

Play-Asia will likely have a physical release with English language options if it’s getting a physical in Japan.

I just got the ps4 version on my ps5 the framrate seems like ts 30fps like super clunky sometimes and i noticed some bugs this game is definitely not worth buying again if the ps5 version doesn't give it 60 fps

I think there is no “upgrade” option, it’s basically a new purchase. It seemed to not know my PS4 version existed on my console, so yeah :3

I guess it's not that worth it if you already beat the game on ps4. However for new comers it's great. I had a lot of fun out of that game!

I kept playing on the PS4 and didn't know this was a vita game... And tbh I wish I never knew. Historia bothered to change engines to UE4 for overdose but never bothered to at least redo the character models? Crystar, a game released same year as overdose, also by Furyu, and running on Unity engine for some reason, had more detailed character models that this "remake" of Caligula. Even if strictly speaking Vita games by Furyu, the Yuuki Yuuna fan game released one year earlier had more detailed facial expressions too. The character's personalities aren't bad so that part is enjoyable, but man is the PS4 port cheap, if you're gonna update the game engine to UE4, please utilize the engine to it's fullest.

The game was fun when I played it on PS4, but the fact that you have to buy the DLC again kinda made me decide not to replay it on PS5

I played the PS4 version on my PS5 as I got it many years ago free on ps plus and god it ran so bad. So much freezing, I had to reset the game and reinstall many times, and lost hours at time as it always froze at the save screen on PS5. It probably runs better on PS4, but the PS4 version had a lot of issues on PS5. None of my other games were freezing, so it was an issue with that game. Definitely worth getting the PS5 version if playing on PS5 rather than playing the PS4 one on PS5. the visuals look better in this as well

Very interesting! I played a small bit with the PS4 version on PS5 for this video, but my full playthrough on PS4 was on PS4 so I didn’t experience those problems. Maybe that is part of why this rerelease is a thing too 😅

@@JRPGJungle Yeah it didn't happen every time, it was pretty unpredictable but it was when saving game only. Its good they are re releasing it

Really? I played the PS4 versions of both the games on my PS5 and don't remember running into any of those problems at all.
