Michael Purcell . Um...no. Gibby’s humble electric bass playing is in the same key as the stolen Canadian Sousaphone (not a tuba) and Paul’s unique guitar riffing and vocalizing. During the ten times that I saw the Buttholes live from 1986 through early 1988, they pretty much kept their music cogent and cohesive, at least compared with the other insanity constantly at play on stage. In this video, they are not always playing the same note, but this does not mean that they are playing in different keys. It seems like a bit of a basic music primer might be helpful for you.

I saw them at Tin Pan Alley in NYC's hell's kitchen in what must have been the biggest fire trap I've ever been in. People were standing like sardines to see both drummers and the Seusaphone! It was magical. Back n the day, I saw them at CB's and all over the place. They had nude gold painted dancers for one show and every single time I saw them, it was a musical changing experience. Brilliant in so many ways....

The original version of this film was released in the mid 1980s on VHS tape in a clamshell box. I want to say that it came with a limited edition 5 inch record. It was at $30 back then and might be valuable to collectors nowadays if it has the 5 inch record. MVD Distributors released the film on dvd and those are available on eBay etc for $10 of less.
