If you are growing on a balcony make sure it can handle the weight. Pots plus soil plus water can be heavy. Look at your supports and perhaps keep items closer to the building. And consider if your balcony already has furniture and other items. Added weight can undermine the structure.

My ex-husband found that the problem with the cheap seeds is they don't grow. Some of the seeds in the packet will grow obviously but if you want a good crop it's best to pay that bit extra and buy the better ones. Yes they cost a lot more but you will get a better crop. I'm not a gardener but I'm giving it a go this year and I've taken his advise just to be on the safe side.

Hi , thank you 😊. I think a lot depends on soil and how you look after plants . I’ve been growing for over 10 years and I can’t say I’ve had an issue with cheap seeds any more than expensive ones the only thing they missing is a variety with the cheap ones . But again many things can influence the seed progress

Yes I agree with u, I don't waste my money on cheap seeds, I buy quality seeds, they come up much better with less water of seeds, that has been my experience for years with cheap seeds too

I spent so much last year on expensive seeds, buying organic too and I've never had such a bad crop. I got about 4 parsnips out of 4 rows, just a few turnips that stopped growing after golf ball stage and others just absolutely terrible but the cheap seeds grew no problem. I do want to get organic , heirloom seeds and go that way for health reasons but I'm dreading if same thing happens again this year. Think I'll be planting both this year

I buy from Premier Seeds as their packs are normally 99p and contain a lot of seed compares to the ones in garden centres and shops. They have heritage seeds too. I tend to plant heirloom plus one other of everything I plant, so if one variety doesn't germinate well there's a back up.

Great video, and happy gardening to you! For the last few years I made a point of planting veg that tend to overwinter well in our area (Seattle), such as kale and Brussels sprouts. It's pretty cool to still nibble fresh goodies when snow's on the ground!

Even cheap seeds can grow well, as long as they are Heirloom. I don't know if there are a lot of "Dollar Stores" in the UK? The Dollar Tree in the States has tons of seeds, but they aren't always Heirloom seeds. Check the package, it makes a difference!!

I grew peppers in buckets last year. 1st time in 20 years I actually got peppers. Grow lettuce on window sill. Have potatoes in a bucket there going to flower. Don't believe there are any in pot. But had empty pot with dirt. Sprouting potatoes. Brought a potted pepper in. We ate one. One more still green. In may it will go back outside. Can't start anything fill march. Can't plant outside till after mother's day. Canada

Dried peas from Morrison will produce a mass of pea shoots that are sweet and tender and taste of peas. Just soak overnight and thickly scatter over a tray of compost. Probably best indoors at the moment. Sunflower seeds will also work this way. You have food in a couple of weeks this way.

Fruit might be the answer, once established they will keep going with just weekly watering.... Cut up drain pipe sunk amongst the veg will allow you to get a good amount of water straight to the roots without the evaporation you get from using hosepipes/watering cans

13yrs is a very long time, think of how many different councils have been in your town hall in that time. If i were you i would have a friend call town hall and ask the average waiting time for allotments if it is less than 13yrs complain to your local MP she/he will get answers for you, i waited 4yrs for mine and had a choice of 4 to chose from. Don't forget to call a couple of time's a year to ask where you are on the waiting list, 13yrs doesn't sound right, good luck.

ATT: what are 'microgreens'? They are seedlings.... seedlings of the plant, if allowed to grow to fruition are.... you guessed it... the adult plant! How do i know this? 🤔 commonsense, AND grew them out AND harvested as adult plants, AND allowed to go to seed AND harvested the seed AND planted out again... and repeated the process. Are they the primo breeds of the variety? No, however their germination rate is great, and even hybrids produce second gen, not true to type, however, they produce and oftentimes shrug off diseases and funguses easier. 🤷‍♀️

I did plant them last year which means I will be able to eat them next year .. it takes 3-yrs before you can harvest them.. it got me to thinking I could sell them for quite a bit once potted up...
