I always try and be diligent with my research and review reading, etc. But this one got me. These generic air filters are the same across many brands on Amazon. Luckily, I am not out too much money, but this is a buyer beware.
Nordic Pure and AIRx air filters on Amazon are the exact same. Different ratings and different pricing. So be careful. This is a case where if you're concerned about what you get (and breathe), you might want to stick to name brands, trusted brands.

As an hvac mechanic, you can definitely keep using that filter you replaced. It wasn't nearly dirty enough definitely had 4 weeks left in it, but not a huge deal. The cleaner air the better.

They are supposed to get dirty. Shows that they are doing what they’re supposed to do.. It’s a filter it’s supposed to filter out dog hair and dust and other contaminants out of the air. You think it should be lily white for the entire time? Only thing you’ve done in this video is to make others stupider than they already were

I have used this company’s filters for almost 3 years. I have allergies and severe asthma. They are the best filters I have ever used!!! I have used multiple MERV ratings from them and several of their pleated products. What I have experienced is, when I ordered the MERV 8 in Mini Pleats and MERV 12 in the regular filters, it was hard to tell the difference between them. So I watched some videos that are on their homepage and saw how they were made . Then I called to find out exactly what the difference was because I couldn’t see it. A nice lady explained how the filters are produced and that the MERV 8 mini pleated were better for one of my smaller units because it didn’t make it work as hard. I purchased a MERV 13 for the bigger, newly replaced unit for my allergies. I noticed that the material in the 13 was “fluffier” looking... definitely different than the smoother looking 8 and 12’s. I called to ask about it and they told me the 13’s completely changed the type of material, was fluffier and would catch much smaller particles. Good for allergy sufferers like me!!!! My other question was why wasn’t the MERV rating in the frame. There is very little stuff printed other than the size. She explained they have so many different kinds of filter stuff that can go in each size, the frames are generic and basic so they do t have to store a bazillion types if filter frames that are all the same size. That makes a lot of sense IMO. I noticed in this video, the guy said the two filters he was comparing were the same but I noticed one looked fluffier like my 13 looks. I don’t think they are the same MERC rated filters so not comparing apples to apples, as they say. I’m very happy with my filters and with all the help their customer service people have given me when I had questions . Also, these are made in the USA and I don’t have to worry about contamination from other countries. Highly recommend this company!

I ordered these filters and rec'd them today. I was a little surprised they looked nothing like the image on Amazon; not individually wrapped, no markings, etc. Several people left comments to the effect of Howling Farms saying because they are dirty they don't work. That is not what he said. He was referring to air flow and restriction. Yes, the higher the merv rating, generally, the more restrictive the air flow, but tech is getting better. The problem he is referring to, is what's the true rating and air flow/ restriction. I'm sure some of you super smart responders know, that the more restrictive the filter, the more work the HVAC unit has to do to move air through the system and your home. Heavy restriction over time can also damage an HVAC unit, including a new unit, especially if the unit is not designed to work with heavily restricted filters. Also, a heavy restriction filter can cause your unit to constantly run in above average hot weather like what we're currently having across the country with the current heat wave. If your unit is struggling to suck air, it's not efficiently nor effectively cooling your home, causing your HVAC unit to run longer and harder in an attempt to cool your home. Yes, that means a super high electric bill in layman's terms. Unless you have super bad allergies and/ or other airborne related illnesses, I would stick to a merv rating between 8-10 in the current heat wave. In the cooler months, if you want to go up to a merv 12-13, go for it; but in these summer months, you are only causing damage to your unit, but don't listen to me. Listen to HVAC man and guys selling these cheap bad filters. They laugh even harder when make a service call because your unit is no longer cooling.

To determine which filter is proper for our HVAC unit, I purchased a manometer and measured static pressure across filter using various MERV rated filters. Testing revealed MERV 8 gave acceptable static pressure vs. higher MERV rated ones. Since I have been using MERV 8, 16x25x5 size filters all the time replacing it every 6 months. For the sake of equipment longevity I chose to keep it that way. Higher MERV rated filters create more restriction for proper air flow.(warm or cold).

Let me get this straight... You're saying the filters are bad because of how much dust and dirt they remove from your air??? Life must be pretty hard having a room temp IQ

Please be aware that filtres are rated by MERV (filtration factor from 3 to 16), 16 being BEST filtering but the most restrictive,. We started with a NEW high efficiency HVAC system in May 2020. I started MERV13 and it was too restrictive because the HVAC tells me my filter is full. I changed to MERV 8 and the filtres lasts about a month. Our filtre box takes 16x24x1" or 16x24x2". I have one MERV8 16x24x2" filtre to try to see if it's less restrictive.

Wondering how MERV labeling--on home HVAC filters--is monitored, especially for off-brand manufacturers. Bought 2 sets of off-brand filters, one from Groupon and the other from Walmart. The off-brand filters were no where near the quality or appearance of Filtrete filters. I use a lot of generic items, sometimes there's a slight difference, but rarely are the brand/off-brands so different.

Merv 14 can be too much for many systems specially older systems. The primary purpose of a filter is to protect the furnace.
@user-yk5ln8lp2v
@user-yk5ln8lp2v 5 ай бұрын
A/C filters are not meant to protect your air, they're meant to protect the equipment. Which is why merv 8 is considered the sweet spot. More than that and your filter gets clogged and puts straing on the blower, less than that and it lets particulates into the vents and coats your coils and blower. Use an air purififer for inside air quality.

Correct me if I’m wrong but Airx is just a brand of distributor Discount Filters located at the same Indiana address. So they probably rebrand and sell Nordic Pure filters. Nordic Pure is a filter manufacturer located in Celina, Texas.
