its always the exotic things that are interesting - formeeither of themwouldbe cool. i recently was in a forrest (about 5 km2) which was nearly ONLY walnut (southerngermany) - i traveled 800km just to have a look at it with the owner. its crazy to see somethingexotic to yourself like that. Try it! Hell of a weekend-event

Tree salvage is generally yard trees or orchard trees that have lived out their useful lifespan or are diseased, problematic, or dangerous. People go crazy about cutting down trees, but a lot of the hobby and hand made furniture is from tree salvage. I for one would much rather the tree end up in my garage where I try to make something nice out of it than getting burned up as firewood or ending up in a landfill.

You need specific deep pour epoxy resin search Google. Mix very very thoroughly and make sure you are accurate with the amounts of epoxy to hardner.

We haven’t paid any deposit on the wood. They are holding it for us on good faith. The three years is necessary to maintain the maximum amount of natural colour. It also prevents excessive cracking or warping during the drying process. 😁

We only use salvaged trees, so they're ones that either are rotting inside and have fallen over on their own, or are causing safety hazards to people and need to be cut down so they don't collapse on someone's house. Those are just a couple examples, obviously there are more scenarios but the bottom line is we don't get trees cut down just to make tables!

@@DanielRevenkov We were planning to work with a tree-planting organization this summer and film a vlog of us planting trees and discussing the environment a bit but with everything going on right now that has to be postponed

I know it sounds counter intuitive but it is completely necessary. The wood must be dried slowly to ensure the colour will be retained and the slabs will stay flat with no cracks. If the wood is put in the kiln right away, you will lose colour, crack the wood, and cause it to warp. Bugs are never really an issue with walnut!

Woods like this do not grow locally! We’d love to do this if we could it’s just not feasible where we live!

@@BlackForestWoodCo I understand what you're saying that you probably have clients that want certain types of wood. But no doubt it's just a game of prolocolism, myth, fable and legend. It's like when they say we prefer our BBQ ribs smoked with cherry wood. Just part of the human condition that people want to take ownership and create the illusion of superiority.... It's just a name game and if you come up with something that is local even in your area... No doubt that would have the potential to make you more money because your cost would be essentially zero. So it's different strokes for different folks. Most of the time we only like things because people tell us it's good.... it's just how humans work.. You know it's a bit like beer people can say this brand is the best all this style was the best but at the end of the day they're all essentially the same. And the dark objective truth is let's face it beer is a very old drink and tastes essentially like crap. good luck with your endeavours. No one's stopping you even making up your own name for local wood. .... just imagine the marketing once it takes off everybody would want this wood from your local backyards. you could even trademark the name Ie. sweet Southern Canadian birch....
