Buying a "White" Brand 45" 13HP Dually Snowblower. Testing it through some deep snowbanks

I removed the wheels and handles and attached the thing to the loader of my Kubota BX compact tractor. Does a great job at a fraction of the cost of a front mounted blower specifically made for my tractor. Too bad nobody makes them anymore and finding a used one is the only option.

MTD also sold this as an attachment for their 800 series garden tractors. I have one on the front of my old MTD tractor (20HP) and the thing is an absolute beast. Throws the snow well into my neighbors yard from my driveway.

I believe MTD is the one who made all the dually blowers and just rebadged them. I read somewhere that they also make a lot of push mowers and sell them to other brands so they can logo them up

I used one of these (Craftsman branded) for about 10 years at a place I worked at to clear a decent size lot. It was a beast.

Engine should be a Vanguard V-twin for the win. Do the impeller mod. Then, ceramic coat auger, impeller, & chute.

If you take care of that it'll be around for a while, but if you're into small engines and tractor stuff that thing would probably sell for good money being they don't make White's stuff anymore and it's a 45' dually snow blower how cool can you get?

In addition to the other brand names these machines had, Sears also sold them for a short time under the Craftsman name. Not sure what the impeller size on these was, but probably too small compared to the auger width. You can hear that engine laboring when going fast into those big drifts, like it's gonna punch a broken rod through the crankcase or shred the impeller belt. One of those Harbor Freight 670 V-twins would be a good engine to swap onto that, as well as the toughest impeller belt you can buy!

Weirdly enough I believe the axles are one of the biggest weakness. Connor (person in video) has bought many of them over the year. 2 years ago he bought one and as we were testing it the axle snapped in half..
@adamfrbs92595 ай бұрын
@JunkyardJosh wonder if you could have axles cryo treated? Supposedly like 20% stronger if its possible. Not sure where it can be done. But worth googling.

I've owned the cub cadet with the 13 Hp engine. Massively front heavy. Even with the magnetic steering It's hard to control. Probably why They stopped making them.

Was yours a dually as well?

I have one of these. The Cub Cadet version. Has a 420cc OHV engine. Think its more powerful than the one in the video. The king of walk behind blowers. Its 9 years old now. Still going strong. Hard to find now. Don't make them anymore.
@JunkyardJosh6 ай бұрын
I believe your cub cadet is identical to this one, just a different brand name slapped on it! I could be wrong, however..
@user-uf7ff3cx7d6 ай бұрын
@JunkyardJosh same machine. All made by MTD. Just a different paint job.

The 13 HP Tecumseh was 358cc. So the 420cc OHV has more torque. Though the Tecumseh would definitely give it a run for its money if it is running right. The carburetors aren’t as good as the Honda clone engines which are usually a Mukuni, Keihin, and a few others. Tecumseh carburetors we’re usually made in-house but a few older ones were made by Walbro. Kohler and Briggs and Stratton used Walbro float carburetors (not diaphragm) but later started using Nikki carburetors which are not nearly as reliable and more temperamental than the older Walbro carbs.

Where do you find these? I can’t find any in Craigslist of FB marketplace.
@JunkyardJosh2 жыл бұрын
Both were found on the Canadian version of Craigslist called Kijiji. I'm not sure if they have them in the states.. they aren't very popular in Canada because they are so big. Most people who want/need a blower this size buy a tractor with a blower. Keep an eye out on FB marketplace - I've seen them listed before as well!

White, MTH, Troy Built, Cub Cadet, Yardman, and so many others made these "big box" machines. They are VERY abundant at Dealer year end Auctions, (and many small engine type graveyards) ... properly used / taken care of: their are EXTREMLY reliable.
@BillC5186 ай бұрын
@@TommyZTrains MTD was probably the main company that made these, and put all those other names on them. Sears also sold them as a Craftsman model for a few years.
