Buying a half or whole hog? What to expect

I know this video is long and has a lot of information, but I hope allows you to be confident in your purchase of a half or whole pig.
The following is what you can roughly expect for a half hog (double for whole):
35 Pork Chops (5/8" thick)
10 Pork Steaks
2-3 Pork Shoulder Roasts (3 lbs each)
16-18 lbs hickory smoked bacon
2 packages of Hocks
1 package of spare ribs
1 package of neck bones
10-12 lbs trimmings
Heart, Tongue, Liver, and Lard

Braunschweiger is a good use of your pork liver. I grew up in Cincinnati. Ate it a lot as a kid.

If you have chickens feed it to them very good especially during winter.

Great idea! I remember Joel Salatin feeding meat chicks liver because they were deficient in something found in liver, could have been iron.

Great vid, looking to get a whole hog from a local farm whenever we can make the space for it in our chest freezer. This was super informative!

If one of your kids wanted to be vegan what would you do or say ?

I would support them, but I would also help them understand many of the misconceptions related to veganism and the importance of animal proteins in the human diet.

That’s what vegetable gardens are for. You can grow an abundance of fruits and vegetables without any problems.
