I have the cellular version, using a different carrier from my iPhone. For me it’s often useful when hotel WiFi is bad and my phone doesn’t have a great signal. It gives me a third option in hotels and a second option everywhere that I don’t have WiFi.

That's a great idea- I never thought about a different carrier for the iPad. That makes so much sense, I've done that with cell phones just in case we don't have good signal with one. Cellular is especially use at the airport. So many people are on that free network, it reminds me of dial up days.

Thanks for this conversation. It is my last lingering question with myself. I have been in a WFH environment for 16+ yrs and have a lot of flexibility to take my work out of the house with me. I work off of a Windows environment and have just hotspot off of my iPhone. I think this helped make my decision.

I have the non wifi version. I have two iPhones, work and personal so I hot spot. Last iPad was the cellular version. T-Mobile had a pretty reasonable prepaid plan.

For me, the iPad Pro is already an expensive purchace I have made for work on the go, so I went with cellular to be able to be anywhere without feeling restricted. For me hot spots have never been an option as the last thing I need when being out and about is to have my phone die on me. At home a hotspot is viable, but nowhere else other than at a pinch.

A lot of real estate agents get a cellular iPad for obvious reasons. Totally agree, tethering is a lot more efficient now, but there’s an element of fumbling around to get it connected. And unless you have a Pro Max version, it’ll go through battery.

But can we send messages from the same number as the iPhone even if we use another SIM on the iPad?

If you are using iMessage with the same apple id, your apple id will be the same. But other than iMessage, no.

@@momanddadmeetworld than you for your very quick answer. Yes, I want to be able to send standard sms to android users with the same number, so if I understand right, It’s not possible with the cellular version

@@stephanes. Technically you’re given a phone number and you can select an option on your iphone to send and receive text from selected phone numbers. I’ve messaged people with Androids and iPhones from my iPad. I’m not 100% sure if it’s because of the iPhone or not.

@@stephanes. No second number, the same number as my iPhone. The cellular is more for the data plan other than a number. The number just identifies the data plan.
