I own a 2014 BMW 335i M Sport with 92K miles I am just now seeing some oil leaking from the back of the valve cover very little. ($30) My wheel bearings are shot. ($150 for the pair) And transmission fluid change ive also had to do ($320 for the kit) Aluminum Charge pipe ($220) ALSO when you are buying the F30 335i the charge pipe will fail under full acceleration as it is stupidly made of plastic so I highly recommend to replace that before anything else. I do all my own work. These have been the issues after 92K Hope this helps !

So far, valve cover gasket, spark plugs, and radiator hose was replaced. Should I be worried about the bearings, and carbon build up?
@laz28585 жыл бұрын
Rollan you should do the carbon cleanup at 70k which is recommended. Your bearings can last a while depending on your driving habits. You’ll know when they start going bad. It’ll sound like a bad tire or something.

@@TheCarBro Both are very doable jobs but definitely take a good amount of time for someone who isn't a certified mechanic like myself. My advice is to just go slow and be careful, keep track of all the parts and label your bolts, and have a sheet on hand with the torque specs that you need. With the direct-injection design everything is over the top of the valve cover and needs to be carefully removed ( take extra care with the PCV hose and look up a video on how to remove because it WILL break if done wrong). The HPFP is in a tricky spot under the air intake manifold and there are some tricky connectors and brackets to be aware of. Hope this helps you out.

I owned numerous bmws and one of them was a 2007 e90 335i sedan sport,premium,cold weather packages and few other options that got me to slightly over $60k in late 2006. It was the first year of the turbo 3 series and if I’m not mistaken it was first year of bmw using boost since the 2002ti in the 1970s. Long story short,it was reliable for the first 40-50k miles besides the fuel pump stranding me once at 22k miles. They also had issues with the brake pad sensors making noise after a few thousand miles,you would get a squeaking noise coming from your wheels everytime you moved and it drove me crazy enough to remove the brake pad wear sensors untill they made new ones to address the issue. I’m very grateful I bought an extended warranty from bmw after the original one ran out because after 40k miles the problems started to occur,non stop problems with cooling components (as usual with any bmw). I had the sport package so the sport suspension and the staggered 18 inch rims chewed through my bushings,tie rods,control arms and other suspension components... living in New York didn’t help. The ride was very rough with the sport suspension and bmw using run flats with 40 series tires up front and 35s in the read didn’t help plus those run flats wore out quick and uneven due to the crap New York roads and/or sport suspension issues and those run flats aren’t cheap! I got sick of the issues so I traded it in for an e60 2007 550I sport that had fun flats too and even though it had the sport suspension the car was much smoother then the 335i. The 550i gave me no problems besides a check engine light came on and it was one of the four oxygen sensors. I ran it up to almost 80k miles without any other problems so I traded it in for a newer 550i with the face lift and again sport package but this time bmw started to put M body kits on it... looked exactly like an M5 except only one exhaust cutout instead of dual like the M5 and different 19 inch rims with no run flats thank god! The car drove better and smoother with 19s and no run flats then the one I had with 18s with the run flats! Great car very reliable but I got bored and loved the X6 looks and when bmw announced the 4.4 twin turbo V8 to go in there,I was sold and it’s been HELL ever since :(

@@ryanallen4078 This is the first im' hearing of this myself but my guess is its allowed because they're the same plate numbers just different shapes, being that BMWs are imports they've been primarily styled to cater more to the country of origin then to foreign countries ... BMW, Audi and other European vehicles front ends, are always designed to perfectly fit a UK plate without ruining the cars aesthetics, whereas a US plate on the front of any European vehicle always looks out of place and often ruins the nice clean look of the front end. Just google Audi or BMW with US plates and look how much uglier the front license plate placement is in comparison to a UK styled plate. Fuel pump, 2 water pumps, thermostat, leaking steering rack, bad control arm bushings, transmission went after fluid change(blame myself, probably overfilled), radiator, coolant hoses, front wheel bearings, thing was an absolute headache. first of all when you have a valve cover leak you must also replace the valve cover, plus the gasket, costs $2,200 at the dealer, the electric water pump costs $2,300.00 at the dealer to replace, when the transmission pan leaks you must replace the plastic oil pan which includes the transmission filter+ gasket, costs at the dealer $1,600, and when the main rear seal leaks it costs well over $3,000.00 to repair, and when your extended coolant tank leaks you also must replace the plastic tubes that connect to the engine which costs at the dealer $1,200,. these things will certainly fail with less than 50,000 miles and hopefully within the 4 year mfg warranty, in your 2014 X1 Xdrive M equipped 35i n55 engine...i know, cause they failed in mine in it's 5th to 8th year between 40 and 49,000 miles which was all out of warranty, also the battery failed in it's 5th year...... also the 4 brakes pads had to be replaced and when you replace the brake pads you must also replace the rotors this costs $1,700 dollars at the dealers.... so if you are going to buy this vehicle used make sure this work was done, make sure you put this auto up on a lift and have a good mechanic look for additional leaks.....

HPFP replaced via recall prior to my purchase, but Ive replaced many gaskets since '16. Water pump failed at 50K. I replaced 1 injector at 55K and think other 5 are due as Im "feeling" misfires in low gears. But its awesome, best model Ive owned, and all worth it to me.

Cam follower, HPFP and gaskets. Hard to find stick shift now, Im feeling that I missed a chance too make a little supercar. Never even drove the E90 (licence was at stake) stayed practical. 1 question E90 manual gearbox how is it. All Audi's gearboxes are shaky, worst being 1-2.

It's perplexing to read the comments from 335i owners here with the stuff they've had to fix, even the ones that are fixed under warranty, as they proceed to say "Other than that, they're pretty reliable." and then "BMW's are so much more fun to drive than Japanese cars." You know what's fun to drive? It's fun to drive to a good restaurant and a nightclub whenever I want because I don't have to worry about my car repair bills. DIY is great when you're young and/or you have the time to do it. Although the younger guys that buy older model years have expendable time to wrench, most of us in the price ranges of the newer models of these cars have jobs that demand a lot more than 8 hours/day x 5 days from us and just don't have the time to wrench anymore and are even inconvenienced when having to take the car in and leave with a loaner because driving to the dealer, dealing with the service rep, driving back to work is all a wasteof valuable time even when it is covered under warranty. Ah well. Enjoy your cars anyway. You've worked hard for your money and earned the right to drive your choice. I don't mean to criticize. I just don't like enabling the dealers' business model of profiting from repairs at the expense of their loyal customers.
@RedDirtWrenching5 жыл бұрын
Boxing Fan with your logic any car that needs to be regularly serviced or maintained is an inconvenience. Also, the reason the dealership charges high rates is because of specified training, and oem parts. If you can afford to purchase a 80,000$+ vehicle, than why is it such a big deal paying 150$ and waiting a half an hour for an oil change? The tech isn't making that money and people like you never seem to complain when you have an intermittent problem that a non brand specific technician would never be able to diagnose? That's why you pay the dealer

You have to pay to play, that's true for night clubs and for sports cars, to stick to your example. Some of us want to make memories or realise dreams, perhaps hold the car for a set period then move on to something more economical again. Isn't that part of experiencing new things we are passionate about? Have you ever driven in a 335i or similar car? If not you don't understand the emotion and it might open your eyes. Go for a test drive in a 335i and tell us again.

Looking for minor performance upgrades, but it drives great stock. I feel fairly comfortable with minor maintenance. Give myself an 8 out of 10 in maintenance ability. I do also own a Harley so I'm pretty used to turning a wrench. Thanks for the video!

I'm lucky to have found a great shop near me that does the larger work on my BMW that I don't want to do. I have a 325ci now but looking to get into a 335 soon. Really love BMW. Never had an older car like the one I have now that is so good. It's an e46 and it has its quirks but nothing as bad as say a ford. My work trucks a ford and before it had 2k miles on it the electric system started having issues and still does. My BMW has some weird things it does from time to time but nothing as bad as the ford plus the BMW now has 140k miles on it.
