My website and articles www.chasinglatitudes.com
Welcome to Chasing Latitudes! Have you ever imagined the smell of the ocean air as your boat crashes through the waves? The freedom that comes from casting off the bow lines and heading out to sea to explore new places you can’t reach by car or airplane? Then this channel is for you.
You will not see white sand beaches here, restaurant reviews, beach parties, selfies or Japanese knives. What you will find is factual information based on decades of sailing experience.
My channel is specifically meant for one thing and one thing only, to help YOU find your new to you fancy-dancy yacht of your dreams and get on the water in the fastest, most time efficient manner.
Don’t get caught up in looking at old boats! I focus on mostly newer vessels, built in 2000 or later because I want you to spend as much of your time as possible sailing, not practicing your restoration skills on an old boat attempting to bring it to its former glory.
You want to take advantage of the amazing newer technology and modern hull designs when it comes to sailing. This is going to make your vessel far easier to sail solol or short handed and make them far more comfortable and efficient to live aboard full time or even just weekenders without buying more boat than you need.
I offer a wide variety of services including consulting where I will take you through the entire process of how to budget properly, choosing what vessel size will work for your needs, what type of vessel, I will help you shop for vessels, determine offer prices, schedule surveys, talk with brokers, teach you how to do your own pre-survey, walk you through hiring the correct surveyor and help you avoid all of the common pitfalls that you will find when purchasing used sailing vessels.
The consulting does not stop there, I will be with you every step of the way and long after you have purchased your vessel as consulting also comes with lifetime access to the members area,.
Chasing Latitudes hosts a large, active private members area where the members are more than happy to offer their own experience to solve problems, host private videos for ASA Sailing quizzes (ASA 101, 103, & 104), and live stream videos which feature anything from member cruising to boat shopping, boat comparisons, and other live content with chat from the subscribers to my KZfaq channel and channel members.
It’s time for YOU to get on the water. Come aboard!

AGREE. I follow a few sailing channels. Lady K is one I always catch. I've been sailing all my life. I don't know it all, but I know a bit. I scratch my head more times on this channel than many of the others. I guess it is a style, but with this video, I've had enough of it. Never looks good for an expert to be slinging mud all over the place.

Yup!! Gren-Nay-Dah.... At least that's how it's pronounced in Grenada, where English is the official language. You are pronouncing it in Spanish..... Google is fine, but not always to be trusted.... you ding-dong!!!

Not sure what language pronounces gren that way. Maybe French? Not English or Spanish. Otherwise, it is a good enough plan to buy where you are going to sail. The downside or at least a consideration is fixing a boat and getting parts is rough. This is compounded if you don't speak the local language well.
@RobbyP1969

It's Spanish morphed into French. Named after the city Granada (Grah-nah-dah) in southern Spain, the island was originally named Concepcion by Cristopher Columbus during his third trip. Somehow (the background is vague), it got renamed Granada, after the city. Then the French arrived, and named it La Grenada, a name that sticks around in its neighbors, The Grenadines. Finally, in 1794, the English took possession, maintaining control until 1958. English became the official language, and in English La Grenada, became Grenada, pronounced the same as one would the thrown explosive. And now you know the rest of the story :)

repair boats can be fine, but beware boats repaired from hurricane damage because the folks doing the repairs are flooded with work all at once and are in a rush. shoddy repairs are a real thing. especially for charter companies. it can be handled, but takes some extra work. a boat repaired from an everyday grounding not right after a hurricane is less risky.

Thanks. Very interesting. But please don't criticise other peoples pronunciation. In the UK we pronounce both different to you and it could be argued that Granada and Caribbean should be pronounced the UK way rather than the US as you do. Also please avoid my pet hate, the unnecessary use of "literally" overused, particularly by the teens, when there is no doubt that your head "metaphorically" exploded, not literally.

I think this emphasis was done for comedic effect-or affect, and to literally annoy those who obsess over Oxford commas and grammatically accurate statements on KZfaq videos where the occasional errors are made even within run-on statements made in comment sections, this is usually done to belittle someone else to make one appear bigger or better than others. Then again I could be wrong-maybe it just literally annoys him to no end. either way it’s his channel and no one is forced to watch it. 😊 this is supposed to be fun

What cost (estimate) would you say it would cost to sail a 50ft beneteau from caribean to Perth Australia? If one is an Australian citizen, and buy a boat in caribean, can one register the boat somewhere else and thus cut down on tax / vat?

What is it like getting parts in Grenada? No, I'm not talking about doing a full refit in Grenada. I'm talking about things like oil filters, fuel filters, ship batteries, a Volvo Penta alternator... Things that might pop up on a survey and need to be fixed before sailing.

This plan only works for the rich. The trip back to the states will cost 30k and that’s not paying a captain. If you’re married the trip will end your marriage. Basically if you don’t have 100k minimum for the boat and another 30k to get boat back… There is a ton of boats there and they are less money but once the rest of costs are added.

I helped a friend bring a boat back from the BVI. Not as far down the chain as Grenada, but nonetheless it was much less than that. If the boat isn't registered in the US, there can be additional expenses, but if you find one that is, it can be a good deal. He made a nice profit when he sold the boat.
