Does the Subaru need a valve body? That generation is notorious for them to fail in hot weather. Replaced a number of them when I was a Subaru tech.
@patriotgarage10 ай бұрын
tech tip. leave the nut on 5-10 turns on the steering wheel. that way when you heman it doesn't break the airbag wires and most importantly the wheel doesn't slam in to your face at 1000 mph.

I'm not sure anyone has filled you in yet, but the Subaru CVT issue is likely just the solenoid pack on the trans. It's far cheaper than replacing the entire transmission and typically fixes it long term. MrSubaru has excellent videos on the topic. Not a terribly difficult job.
@ARuralVermonterQqjmcb18210 ай бұрын
Ah, thanks. i'll take a watch. Its also throwing codes for the torque converter and valve body, would this fix that?
@802Garage10 ай бұрын
Oh he also has a video called TR580 Valve Body Replacement which I believe is the exact one you'd be dealing with and he has a vid on torque converter failure if that ends up being relevant. I think that being the actual problem is very rare.

@@802Garage this do the valve body first
@mitchstarr10 ай бұрын
Yeah I thought that might have been a more simple issue, otherwise Subarus wouldn't be rated top 3 for reliability.
@802Garage10 ай бұрын
@@mitchstarr Yeah bizarrely Subaru still does a lot of transmission replacements, but I think it's unfortunately down to flat rate mechanics wanting to make more money swapping a trans, which is rather easy in a Subaru, than they would make just doing the valve body.

I don't know how far a drive it is to the auction, but I think I would have driven back to get them. Looked like a big pain to hotwire them. Good score on the card however. You can never go wrong with a Toyota. Love my 2023 Camry and 2018 Toyota iM.

I now understand why so many kias get/got stolen after having seen a few of those Kia Boys videos. It's about as quick as using an actual key. Steer lock? Nah. Having to dismantle the steering wheel? Nah. Just rip off some plastic, snap off a single simple pin and boom, you're in business.

That scion you got was basically a Toyota Yaris. 2007-2012 Yaris have been seen going 400k miles or more with basic maintence. The strong part of those cars is the 1.5L engine and the transmissions. Definitely clean that up for your sister. Get some fresh oil on it. New air filters, clean the car inside and out and do the spark plugs, the simple maintence. Great video.
