In this documentary, filmmaker Anthony van der Meer investigates the lively digital trade in hacked computers. He infiltrates a hacker forum for 'RATters'; hackers who spy on people, steal or blackmail them. These victims are called 'slaves.'
The documentary gives an insight into a world that remains hidden from many and, at the same time, investigates the ethical and journalistic limits of the maker.
The hacker forums offer not only 'RAT tools,' but also complete manuals on how to use these tools. Experienced RATters help beginners on their way, and tips are given on how to make money from slaves, whose photos are shared as trophies. Even antivirus software is dodged with easy-to-use tools.

I've been telling people to cover their webcam and not keep anything on their hard drive that could be used against them for years now, 95% of people just think I'm cranky and that they are paying for anti-virus software, "so it can't possibly happen to me" I Knew about remote access software but I didn't know it could be encrypted so it can be installed in the background on a Win 10 machine running 3 or 4 anti-virus programs, that's just scary, Thanks for making this, I just hope people see it and wake up to what's happening

Het zou wel fijn zijn als jullie ook uitleggen hoe je dit kan voorkomen. Op deze manier leg je namelijk en moedig je aan tot het gebruiken van deze methode en hoe makkelijk het is om hiermee met nagenoeg geen risico geld te verdienen. Hoop hierbij dat jullie je naast het inzetten van deze informatie te verspreiden ook ons kunnen informeren om deze criminelen tegen te gaan. Hoor graag van jullie.

Nee hoor, ik ben helemaal niet aangemoedigd om via deze manier geld te verdienen. Dat is toch echt iets persoonlijks. Informatie kan voor allerlei doeleinden worden gebruikt, voor goed of voor kwaad. Ik heb gewoon weer wat geleerd. Hoe je het kan voorkomen? Net als je huis, daar doe je de deur ook op slot als je weg gaat en misschien nog een paar extra sloten en hopen dat inbrekers je huis voorbij gaan en kijken naar een makkelijker slachtoffer. Maar als ze echt willen komen ze toch wel binnen, dus moet je zorgen dat er niets te halen valt.

What if slaves pc doesn't have internet connection, does rat still can work( I mean it can't send information to us or we can't operate it) clear my doubt anyone

No, it does not work without internet connection, although if your pc have inbuilt wifi card (in case of laptop all of them have wifi card/receiver), then the malware (not all but some advanced malware) tries to connect with any open wifi access-point available with-in range without notifying user that the system is connected with internet.

Is a VPN any good for preventing this? And/or using a data encryptor that encrypts data stored in the harddrive?

No it will not prevent this or protect traffic that's inline if the entry node is already compromised (entry node being your machine).

@@gammaraygem No problem. Just trying to help. And even though any of us could be compromised. You should still use encryption on your hard drives and have a vpn anyway. Just in case you need one in the future. It's a good "best practices" type of habit to have.

The problem is we worry more for the takeover of our computers from hackers, than for the takeover of our lives from our own unconscious forces. These hackers are doing some people a favor by pointing this. As long as we are who we are there will always be hackers, terrorists etc.
