To add to Philly Phills points, I would rather be buying Nolan, Freeman, Jram, Manny etc or low tier guys that had good seasons in low end markets. Nolan Jones, biased Cleveland fan, and he touched on Trout. The guy is not dead, and the sky is not that close above his head. For collectors out of reach, Trout is within range for a lot of people which is not a bad thing, those collectors are looking to spend in a down market.

okay.. i may have a thought for you guys, in regards to why Acuna prices haven't seen a drastic jump. I believe there is something to be said for the rules being changed with pitch clock and stolen bases, where i feel people feel that it's now easier to steal bases. For those reasons i think a new norm needs to be established, and it will over time. I think Jeff makes a good point that if Acuna does it again next year, then i think his prices will jump because then he has proved that he is that much better than the field. Until then, its fair to say that you cant compare Acuna vs Rickey vs Cobb or anyone else because its not apples to apples as T-Pott said. So i think time will tell but that may be a reason that might have been overlooked. thanks again for an awesome video!

It doesn’t matter what the catchers pop time is. 3 inches closer to each base doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of things. He is a generational player. Dude did what NOBODY EVER DID! Difference with Jackson, it's minor ball but also not hype. He has excelled at all levels so I feel he is actually performance based. The W.S playoff runs lost steam once big teams like the Dodgers and Braves were out so that had a play in it for Acuna.

I get where you’re coming from. Chris here and if I’m buying something I almost always try to sell something at the same time. Try to cover some not the cost. Thanks for watching!

@@SpitballinCards I understand your point but the stuff that I want isn't dropping fast enough. I collect Kobe and Nolan Ryan. Those guys you can't really get bargains on especially number cards or anything graded My point is valid about not selling dirt cheap. Just because one guy sells a card ridiculously low doesn't mean the next guy has to follow suit. Patience pays also when it comes to sealed wax. And actually some can hold forever and some pass stuff down generations. That's what true collectors do.

Only thing I'll add is I think there is a shift taking place in terms of what drives baseball card values. Used to be stats and hof chances. Lot of new collectors coming from other sports where championships and playoff success DO matter. They are bringing that same thought process to their baseball collecting. I expect to see more of this mentality in the modern baseball market
@SpitballinCards
@SpitballinCards 8 ай бұрын
There’s an excellent test to that theory right now. Let’s see what happens with Corey Seager’s values over the next fee months. He’s got 2 rings, 3 postseason MVP’s and very little chance at the HOF. He’s a great rest case!

Coaching/management and the statistical execs are killing pitching. Look what they did with Stephen Strasburg? They babied him out of the gate instead of just letting him throw and seeing how many innings he could go. Could you imagine if they put an innings limit on Nolan Ryan his first few years? Let the boys play!
@SpitballinCards
@SpitballinCards 8 ай бұрын
Seems like today pitchers are getting hurt more often than other. Shoulder and elbow stress - guys throwing harder than ever. Human bodies can only handle so much. Except of course for the great Nolan Ryan! Not fair to compare any pitchers to that total legend! The nationals shutting down Strasburg that year in the playoffs is still one of the most controversial decisions I can remember a team making. The arrogance to think they’d be in October annually!!

I've been listening to y'all on Spotify recently and had to hop on KZfaq to post a comment! This time of year is so fun for a baseball card collector, but I totally align with T-Pot on the assessment of the excitement of basketball being a factor during this time of year when allocating hobby spending! I thoroughly enjoy buying cards of players I follow during a season (the Orlando Magic are my favorite sports team, and I've mainly collected basketball for 20 odd years), so I need to really focus on baseball right about now! That being said, I agree with this 1-2 month window as a strong buying opportunity for baseball. I have been swooping up my favorite prospects at %30-%60 of summer comps, it is ridiculous how cheap some amazing cards are! I'm mainly focusing on 1st Green Grass parallels from 2023 Bowman, but also chrome Refractor (#/499) autos and buying as much as I can. I'm trying to get doubles so I can save 1 for the PC and flip the other before call up be it in 2024 or 25+. Love the podcast, keep up the Lord's work fellas, and happy collecting! ✌🏻&🎄&🍍

Wondering why the Jackson Holliday went up, TPot? Go to the video you did on market movers about prospecting and see my comment. I predicted this and said November and December would NOT be as good a time as in the past to buy a dip because you and influencers just made a bunch of videos on prospecting and there won’t be as noticeable a dip or any dip at all. The only way to get ahead in this hobby is to make a move before influencers make a video on it. Right now is the time to SELL prospects bc of the hype you all have now generated.

I have heard many times from this group and on your individual channels that "there are too many sets and too many total rookie cards" of the players after 2017. Or "there isnt the 1 iconic rookie card, all new rookies are too watered down for investment". I say whats the difference between buying 1 Trout rookie for $1k vs buying 10 Ohtani rookies for $1k?? For modern rookies, buy the player, buy 5 or 6 of his various base rookie cards. If that player turns into the next Mike Trout then those 5 or 6 cards will go up "dollar wise" just as much as the 1 good card you wish they had.
@SpitballinCards
@SpitballinCards 8 ай бұрын
I think there’s a lot do evidence that this is NOT the case. High pop, overprinted base cards are getting harder and harder to live and their values/prices are very hard to move. If there 10k or even 20k PSA 10’s of a card out there, and it’s always available on eBay the supply will just always outpace demand. The rarer stuff - Topps Black, Chrome Gold - will ALWAYS be in demand and the supple will never be able to match it. I’ve personally “sold up” a few times with some success because the lower print, lower pop cards are just safer. Thanks for watching!
