I think a housing crash will happen because all those people who bought homes over asking price, although it was at a low interest rate, they are over their heads. They have no equity if the housing prices continue to go down, and if for whatever reason they cannot afford the house anymore and it goes into foreclosure because even if they try to sell, they will not make any money. I think this will happen to a lot of people especially with the massive layoff predicted for the future and the cost of living rising at a high speed.

I don't know if I will ever be in a position to buy my own home but it is really bad how we are taught so much in school and college but nothing about buying houses, finance etc Thanks for educating from your experience I think it is so important without the jargon, or confusing info.

My biggest piece of advice when picking a house is; drive bys! Do them! Sometimes a house can seem fantastic during the day and then when you do a drive by at night you notice things like it's a walk through road for people returning from the pub, or the neighbours are playing loud music or shouting at eachother in the street. Or you might find that of an evening when everyone is home the parking is dire and you'd struggle to get parked if the house your looking at only has a small driveway. Honestly, visit the area a few times at different times of the day, it saved us from buying a house that turned out to be on a school pick up road that would have been a nightmare for us with our three vehicles.

I love videos like this. I've been saving for the last three years with the end goal of buying a house. I totally agree that you go through stages of saving. Especially whilst I am in Uni, first year I didn't save that much but second year I have manged to save so well! I'd say my advice is to not stress to much about it, every little counts and don't be put off when people who started saving after you have maned to save more because everyone is different!! :) x

This was so useful! Me and my other half are currently in the process of buying our first house :) Aside from all the horrendous hidden costs, the thing I didn't realise beforehand is that estate agents can bluff you on things (e.g. telling you someone else has put in an offer when they actually haven't), to try to push you to make an offer!

Currently looking to buy a house too and this was super helpful. I didn’t realise how stressful this process is. I definitely agree with seeing a few houses so you collate the information and can tell what you need and what you don’t. Hopefully, I can buy a house soon but the banks are being difficult and it’s tricky with the higher deposit now.

Thanks a lot for sharing this quite long but comprehensive video tips for first time buyers like me. Its great to know about the hidden fees which should not really be hidden so the buyer can plan and include it in the budget. Me and my partner bought our first house 2 years ago aged 22 we'd been saving since we were 19. It took 9 weeks from offer to getting the keys which I know is quick but honestly felt like the longest time. Such a good video soph wish we had something like this during the buying process cause like you we had to ask so many "stupid questions" xx

I'm one of those people who has looked at loads and loads of houses. I'm a bit nervous about going back out for house viewings again now that the market is reopening. And the only reason I have looked at so many is because I'm really fussy. I have a limited budget and need to be close to public transport so that is limiting my area but I'm just holding out hope something will come on the market eventually. My partner is starting to give up hope though (he doesn't care about what house we buy as long as its not the one we're currently renting which is why I'm taking the forefront on the house search). This video has been really useful for me. Especially the hidden fees bit, I've heard about solicitors fees and surveys but never heard of stamp duty (luckily I doubt it will apply due to my limited budget) so that was good to know. Thank you for all your information and help Soph. May re-watch this once I've gotten the courage to go back out for house viewings again.
