Simon Russell Beale never fails to make every performance seem utterly effortless. One of our finest actors.

I LOVE this. It's Old Broadway--you think they're finished and then they come back with more.

I had forgotten this! What an absolute pleasure to find it again! And interesting to distinguish the differing theatrical strengths: acting, singing, movement, projection... Of course, it was a group achievement, but who could fail to adore SRB having such fun? Probably the greatest theatrical actor in the world.

So much fun to see Julian Ovenden having a great time with this number. He's usually so serious, but it's a pleasure seeing him enjoy himself.

Great video and a great song, presented here much better than in the movie, "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum." Juian Ovenden's terpsichore at 2:54 is straight out of Dan Ackroyd's moves in The Blues Brothers...I am sure not intentionally! What fun!

I've been pretty much obsessed with this video for a few months, and when I saw Daniel Evans in an episode of Doctor Who ("Christmas Invasion" Series 2 episode 1), after I spent 5 minutes figuring out just from where I recognized him, freaked out!

"The heavy set gent" - are you referring to Simon Russel - the original one on stage, or Bryn Terfel - who came on fourth?

PC has found it's insidious way into these festivities. Some of the funniest lines in this song which also happen to be the most suggestive, when not overtly lewd- but hilariously so- have been cut out. Too bad...
@Moiturette12 жыл бұрын
You have no idea what you're talking about.

Since you so blithely condemn anyone who does not fall into lock-step with your way of thinking, I must assume that you suffer from a not at all uncommon ailment known as cranium in glutei. While I firmly believe in the enormous talent of Mr. Sondheim, not everyone on this side of the pond believes that he is god (whatever one chooses that to be). It's unfortunate that you are incapable of honest debate.
@joachimstossberg30958 жыл бұрын
They blow this. They repeat the first verse twice. So some of the funniest lines in this hilarious song aren't here. Which is a huge pity as they're all so good.
@sertorrhenclegane8 жыл бұрын
+Joachim Stossberg I don't what version you're listening to, because it sounds almost identical to the 1995 revival.
@LewisRC51212 жыл бұрын
How unfortunate that, despite great showmanship, two of them are NOT good singers. The shaved head gentleman has four good notes on his best days ... and he hit precious few of them throughout this number! The heavyset gent is, despite his not being as fine a mover as the two younger men, the best of the lot for my money!
