@myloverisbillmurray The original production at Yale had two students in the chorus named Sigourney Weaver and Meryl Streep

@@lizlemon3698 “The Frogs” was written as a one-off production for the Yale drama department. It was performed at the university pool. Sigourney and Meryl were both students at the time, as was Kevin Kline.

Don't you just love how they paired two completely different looking and sounding actors that pretty much embody Comedy and Tragedy?
@jackbrady6667 жыл бұрын
Lexter Victorio I thought they where paired since they look like the roles Dionysus a fat God of theatre and wine and xnthius a thin slave who's usually bald.

@dnanidreffmc its a very old, very obscure adaptation of aristophane's the frogs. it ran for 6 performances in the Yale University Gymnasium swimming pool...or something like that....it got revived though!

It is a song from "The Frogs" by stephen sondheim

@dnanidreffmc You're so right. It only takes a genius to create such an amazing music and also such brilliant, funny and perfect lyrics like this. I'd say Sondheim is one the best composers in musical theater history, and THE best lyricist in it.
@anneflint75513 жыл бұрын
@dnanidreffmc Yep. Sondhiem wrote both the music and the lyrics. Only a genius like Sondhiem could create something as amazing as this piece.

Did Sondheim write this song as well? It sounds very Sondheim in all its wit and nuances, but I'm sure no composer would write an extra song for a tribute to him. Can someone please enlighten me.
@WIscodizard4 жыл бұрын
I know it's been 8 years since you asked this, but yes. It's Sondheim.
@larrystuder85432 жыл бұрын
It's from the musical The Frogs, based on the Roman Comedy by Plautus. Written very early invhis career...
@thebritlanders4535 Жыл бұрын
@@larrystuder8543 Not Plautus, but Aristophanes. They mention it in the song.
@larrystuder8543 Жыл бұрын
@@thebritlanders4535 oops. You're correct. I get them mixed up sometimes. Plautus is most of the basis for A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum..

To elaborate on what everybody else has said: the lyrics to this song frequently were adapted slightly whenever it was used in something other than the frogs. For example, if you look up the Bronson Pinchot version used in _Putting It Together_ , several lines vary from the versions in different Productions of _The Frogs_ .

The Brits invented something that is literally named _for a street in New York_ ? Get over yourself, honey.
@ViceroySteelee11 жыл бұрын
i disagree, George M Cohan is the Father of Broadway, and Show Boat is considered the first modern musical. the first comment is kind of stupid since the Brits have the longest running musical in the world and they have creative people that can come out with great original shows that aren't based off of movies.
@dantean5 жыл бұрын
Better you should have figured out a way to maintain some semblance of grammatical clarity before weighing in on what you consider stupid. I couldn't even figure out what comment(s) you were criticizing, only it didn't matter terribly after all the work required to slog through those diabolical sentences. Better luck next time. Luck, or a formal education of some kind.
