You do a great job of keeping the scrap wood in check. My eyes feasted on a few of those boards you have stored in the shed. In my mind I could see a table top made from one a bar countertop made from another. My mind sees something made from objects and some I can make and others I can't. I see the beauty of those knots on some of the pieces and how beautiful a side table top they would make. Sorry to go on like that, I just get excited when I see the potential of something. Hope you can get your saw fixed.
@Benssawmill6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing the vision Alice I can see some of the same things and these are the scrap pieces the good ones are out in the pile of stacked lumber. The saw is a work in progress I got a new motor already and I am just waiting for a pulley to be delivered that I ordered last week. I'll be back in business with it in no time. Thanks for watching.

Hey Ben, suggest for safety, you put some paint marks on that saw blade to make it easier to see when spinning .... and build a cage around the blade if you can

When I was a kid, my father made me cut logs into 16'' lengths on one of those saws. Except it was powered by an old Bulldog one lunger antique gas engine. Had like 30'' flywheels and a 15' belt. Nothing slowed that thing down. Scared the shit out me, I was like 9. Cool to see.
@Benssawmill6 жыл бұрын
This little motor runs the saw enough to cut the wood but if I jam it up the belt slips. I think I like it that way. not too powerful but it gets the job done.

bundle it up. I just bought 60 bundles. The first log truck load came Friday afternoon. lots of fat meaty slabs. slabs were free, I had to pay the freight.

Ben, You may consider a 3" wide x 4" long piece of tire rubber to bolt on the mills framework directly in front of the rollers for keeping the sawdust from building on the tracks. Cut a little notch in the center so it straddles the rail and lets the rest slip down to the level of the bottom of the rollers. You'll still have to clean up, but the aggravation factor of the wheels being effected while milling will be lessened. Side note: the sidewalls are thick enough and there's no wire to have to cut through. Inner tubes are too soft. Great video...ain't it amazing how fast things get done with a little help from a buddy...or two.
@Benssawmill6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the suggestion. A few helping hands always makes things go faster. 👍 I had a massive amount of sawdust by the mill think I cut around 30 logs before I had to clean it up. usually I do it every 10 or so. maybe someday I'll even get a dust collector hooked up. see what the future brings. I would like a small conveyor for the buzz saw while I'm at it also. lots of room for improvements. Thanks for watching.

Ben soaringtractor is a troll never has anything good to say i have seen him on other channels just let him be he will leave. The way your buzz saw is set up is just fine sliping when it binds is not a bad thing. You are doing good at keeping things cleaned up. Stay safe and have fun.

Hey Ben, you may have different thoughts than I do on seasoning wood but from my years of experience your not gonna need to let that stuff sit for a year to dry out before you sell it as seasoned wood, no thicker than it is will take at most 3-4 months before it’s good and dry, it’s not like you just cut the tree down that day either and it’s the outside slab so it’s already begun it’s drying process before you even cut the slab. I would burn any of that stuff in my stove today and not worry at all with it and I bet $100 it will burn fantastic. My concern is if you age it one year that you are gonna overdry it and then your gonna put it in the stove and “poof” it’s gone before you could even go get another arm load of wood. Slabs burn fast enough as it is, they don’t need extra help buddy. Would be interesting to put a moisture meter on them when cut and every month after to see how quick they dry. Take care Ben
@Benssawmill6 жыл бұрын
I agree with everything you said. three to four months would be good I'd say. I think I will put a meter on it and see what the moister content is. Thanks for watching and commenting.

My Grandpa had a Sears buzz saw , I’d always wanted one so a couple of months ago I bought one , I have to engineer some way to hook up a motor, I bought a used motor yesterday , it’s a 3 1/2 hp B & S , I’m wondering if that’s enough power , what size is motor on yours ? & could you do a close up video of how motor is connected to saw , Thankyou , I am a subscriber , have been for a good while .

We've got a similar buzz saw like yours. Ours is a little smaller though. How do you sharpen such a large saw blade? I've always wondered how to sharpen a blade that big. Harbor freight sells a circular saw blade sharpener but it doesn't work with blades that big. Lol.
@Lanninglongarmmowing6 жыл бұрын
soaringtractor Yeah but then some teeth get filed more than others. Kind of like chainsaw sharpening with a round file. There's a technique to it and you have to do it a lot to be good at it. I'm talking about doing it proper such as a jig to get it perfect everytime.
@Benssawmill6 жыл бұрын
I haven't had to sharpen it yet but a diamond blade on a grinder is my plan. maybe make a special jig to sharpen it.
@Lanninglongarmmowing6 жыл бұрын
Bens sawmill Yeah that's the best way to sharpen it with a jig.

Me to. Back when we was cutting a lot of house logs. I would almost give the side lumber away.I created a bunch of folks that the only time they came around was wanting something for basically nothing. It hurt my business.
@Benssawmill6 жыл бұрын
I know how that is. Everyone wants something for nothing. It's a shame because good people like yourself get taken advantage of. There is a fine line between being a hard nosed rip off and a broke person being used by everyone. it's hard to be a good person and a good business man.
