ashley miranda my family used to not lock our doors because our street was safe, it never had any break ins, assaults etc. So we thought it’d be okay to keep it unlocked, but then one day someone got in and attacked us, so we now lock our doors all the time no matter what.

I feel like the Watcher was someone in the neighborhood who probably had a grudge against Maria. Maria grew up in this neighborhood, left, and wanted to come back. The Broaddus's were clearly targeted, and the fact that the person got so upset after the Broaddus's sent letters back to the neighborhood shows a deep personal investment and grudge. It's just so petty and sad. I wish the Broaddus's would've stayed in the neighborhood and just protect themselves. Once this story became viral, it's pretty clear in my opinion that whoever the stalker is has far more to lose than the Broaddus's if the truth plays out.

doesn’t make sense. if it was someone with a grudge against maria why would they also send neighbors letters who had nothing to do with her? plus they wouldn’t have even known that maria was going to live in the house because they were sent before the family moved in. so that theory just doesn’t really add up at all.

The series honestly is maddening to watch after having done research and stuff on the case. They know there's no true resolution so they're tying in other entirely unrelated true cases like the List murders and trying to claim it's based on a true story. If I don't think about the true story, it's an interesting show, however.

My mom was watching the last episode of the Netflix show and I started to recognize the storyline because of this EP of Unsolved. When I asked my mom, who was already done and tired with the show, if it was based on the true case of the Watcher that was NEVER SOLVED she lost all hope 😂

they sold the rights to netflix (from everything i’ve read it was unenthusiastic) after lifetime made a movie without their permission. they received no money from lifetime but where given some narrative control and payment by netflix.

For those interested, my family has lived is Westfield for years. It’s a very safe and wealthy suburban town, but there are alot of old-Victorian style homes that have been occupied for years some of which were passed down and are now home to elder recluses who dislike the “yuppy” types moving into town. Developers try and purchase this Victorian era homes to build more modern houses but these lifers refuse to sell. We are friends with many in the town government and the police chief has said they believe it was one of these old reclusive residents, probably living in a family home, who decided to mess with the new home owners.

The thing about that is “The Watcher” would mail out his letter and it will arrive the next day, and the mailman would deliver the letter to that mailbox. I think the best way is to open each mail and see where it was sent out from, but again it would be illegal to open someone else’s mail.

I realize that this is probably a little detail that people probably won’t take much notice of, but… I think that was super nice of the Broaddus family to rent the house out to someone, but would let them move out if another letter arrived. I just think that it was nice that they gave the new people who lived there a way out. I can always appreciate an act of compassion.

What I find weird is, the dude said that there's been a whole dynasty of Watchers, going on three generations of em, and not once did any of em send a letter til now? Nah, this was probably the neighborhood being tight knit and wanting to keep out new people, so they hatched a plan to scare the Broaddus' away.

The fact that he knows their names, but misspelled them is terrifying. That means that he didn’t look them up, but he HEARD them say the names. He wasn’t just trolling them from some computer 30 miles away, he was there, listening.

Actually, to me, the misspelling is the biggest red flag that they did it themselves. Like, that just screams, “Well, it couldn’t be us! See? They misspelled our name!” I can’t make up my mind about if they did do it, but that particular detail is really suspicious.

Hers requires insight. Both are possible. Hers is more valuable as it places the location of the killer.

To the newer commenters saying about how Netflix got most of it wrong, I just wanna add that movies, shows etc will ALWAYS overdramatise things for the entertainment. Like realistically, this story would be boring if made into a show or movie and being 100% accurate with zero error.

The reason the Netflix show was so dramatically different from the real story was because the Broaddus family actually requested the story depicted in the show be different from the real case. This is why Nora and Dean Brannock are not named Maria and Derek Broaddus in the show, and why they have 2 kids instead of 3. The Broaddus family also asked the producers to make sure that the actors playing the family look as little like theirs in real life as possible.

I'm in Ireland in a small village with the same people living on this Street since I was 2 years old (21 now), and I'm also totally spooked by this. I'm terrified by the idea of being watched.
