The right time to pay a bar fine is whenever it suites you. I’ve learned long ago never make plans in Pattaya just enjoy yourself and go with the flow.

I was in Pattaya in November, on my first night bar fined a lovely girl on Soi 2 and we had a great time including breakfast the next morning. However, I was out fishing that day so said I would be late in to the bar in the evening - Sure enough, she had another man sat with her (Although she was good enough to come over and apologise, saying 'this is business' - Fair enough). She came back in later on, obviously just a bit of 'short time' and started to chat with me, telling me she was free for the rest of the evening - However, her mate from the night before had been sat with me while she was gone and I had to tell her sadly that I was 'lonely' so had bar fined her friend. As you say, it's business and she didn't hold it against me when I was back in later in the week when we had a few drinks and played pool

If a guy is bothered about "going in after somebody else" then Pattaya isn't the place for him. The reality is that if he chooses a popular attractive girl. If it's late in the night, he could possibly be her 3rd or 4th customer.

Older video but a very good subject. I have a couple of points that I feel you glanced over. A bar fine is a business transaction for sure. We really need to remeber that fact but it can still be fun. If the girl thinks you are going to spend money on her outside of the bar, she is going to take you for a ride. This could be good or bad. If you take her early and want to go to other bars or clubs, she is going to want to see her friends and you will have to buy them drinks. This is a must to help her save face and she will thank you for being reasonable generous. Don't be afraid to say no and have a limit but let her tell you to buy a few drinks for her friends. Bar fine late in the evening will have a reduced cost and the girls may be limitied but they will be available. Take her out to eat before you go back to the room and you will have a nicer evening of entertainment. You are right about getting a girls number while in the bar and asking her to meet you later. This is a big no no in the bar scene. However I was caught doing this one time by the mammasan. She was pissed at the girl but the girl did not care. The girl meet me the next day and we got along very well. I started to see her only for more than a year. Which brings me to my next point. While this is a business, the girl can like you. The relationship can stay a business only think with a lot of "like" or more. Be nice, have strong limits and the girl could be long term fun. Last thing but not necessary, buy the mamassan a drink. You get two advantages here. First if you buddy up with the mamassan, she can direct you to girls with the least problems. And two, this puts the girl on notice that the mamassan is frendly with the customer and won't act up as much. The mamassan who caught me getting a phone number to met a girl outside of the bar has been one of my best friends for over 10 years. She has bought me many drinks and has given me some of the best girls I have had in Thailand. So be nice, be firm with limits, befriend the mamassan, and keep your eyes open. This is a business.

Had very very different experiences than you. Ive taken bar fines out on the town and theyve got viciously jelous when ive interacted with other girls... sure loads others have had that experience too. Thai girls are very jealous and territorial.

I'm with the other guys on not interacting when you have your bar fine with you. Even though it's business it can still lead to loss of face which leads to poor chemistry later. The simplest answer is to go short time and if it goes well go long time later on.

The best plan is dont make plans, do what you like when you like and how you like its Thailand, dont break the law and enjoy.

I remember when I got back into Pattaya, went to the bar and ran into a girl that I saw previously from the other year. I took her friend that year but I wanted her instead afterwards. But that year I came back she showed up and she left a customer that she had several days and decided to stay with me for the whole week. It was good to be the boss that week, I was opening the bar for my friends at 10 in the morning. Had the keys to the fridge. Mama was so cool about it. The staff kept calling me BOSS. The other bars would call me if there was problem with sailors or customers when I was there.

I came to Bangkok, I started teaching in a school and met a teacher she was 28 I was 54 that was 18years ago I'm still with her married got money own my home, car, bike. Now we are still to gether I'm 72 shes 46 family are great was I lucky no I was careful and cautious.

I like to sit, chat and have some drinks with a girl before deciding whether to bar fine her or not. Once I'm happy and that decision is made, we agree on a deal that we are both happy with beforehand, I pay the bar fine and we go back to the hotel. I like to be able to feel relaxed and comfortable with a girl before making a decision, otherwise it can be a bit cold and clinical. I don't like to rely on looks alone, friendliness and personality makes a big difference I find.

When I was there last (a long time ago in 79) the answer to when to pay a bar fine was: If you like the girl just pay it. Don’t go around the rules. Don’t try to be sneaky. At that time it was 20 Baht to a dollar. A Bar fine was between 200 - 500 Baht. (my memory might be fuzzy) That’s less than $15. You pay more than that for a beer in San Francisco. If you can’t afford that, don’t go.

Agree with you 100% mate. Come back when you're ready and go from there or keep shopping. Also, the fines typically drop after 12/1 so, you may be able to shave a few baht off your bill🤪

The first time I went to Pattaya twenty years ago, the first night I went out I heard a lady screaming "Hello Sexy Man!" i prefer picking up 6/10 older chubby m1lf freelancers on the dance floor in the clubs as they will easily go LT for ST rate. they will also put in an effort in the sack unlike the young spinners that just lay there stiff as a board waiting to get paid. those who have played enough pokemon know what im sayin here...it all feels the same with a jimmy hat on unless they’re super fat and frictionless. I think a good strategy would be to visit several bars & check out a few ladies along the way & find out what time they close & turn up in the last hour & bar fine one if they are still there.Or you could just go out after 12 at night & search for a good one & bar fine her after a couple of beers & leave with her..

I went to Bangkok for R&R for a week in January n another week in June 1970 n it was quite different a girl at the bars were cheaper than massage parlor. It was $10 versus $25 n it was for 24 hours. So I chose a girl from a bar for $50 for the week , my hotel was $35 for the week n my cab driver was $35 for the week so it's quite obvious it's very different n more expensive now. But I had a helluva time n enjoyed myself n my companion immensely n the people in Bangkok treated me with respect n dignity. So I have great affection for the Thai people.

My Thailand experience started in Samui 20yrs ago where there was no ST , you would Barfine a girl in the night and many times you had to try and find ways to get rid of her the next day , telling her the cleaners wanted to clean or that you had to meet someone , it was hard to get rid of them before 4pm . In Pattaya unless your flashing the cash bigtime they just want ST and even if you say and agree on LT , i have had a few ladies that at 5am have had a ( supposed ) message from a friend that has been locked out of the room or has had an accident and want to leave , while still expecting the agreed payment for LT and then the fun begins when your still half drunk and sleepy to only pay them for ST , many guys can`t be arsed and give them the LT money , which means they pull this trick many times again . The problem i have with Barfines is that for me i saw it as a charge from the bar that they were losing a girl , but if your in a bar on Soi 6 why the hell should they demand a Barfine when you go upstairs for 30mins , in the closed in Bars i have even been charged the Barfine if a stay downstairs and get down dirty on a curtained off couch , and i never Barfine from a GoGo its just not worth the marked up prices , So While it`s great to sit and chat and get to know the girl , I find if you just want to get your rocks off , your better off on Tinder , Thai Friendly or a massage place on Soi Honey or Soi Pothole

Back in the day when barfines were more affordable, I tended to barfine earlier in the night like around 9 PM or so. Most for short but occasionally the long if I felt real chemistry with the gal, and I am also not a night owl so like to get things done early. Going back something like 6 or 7 years back I started to see some crazy prices being charged for barfines. 1500 to 2000 baht, plus you had to wait until I think it was 1 or 2 AM until that barfine had a small discount. Around that time I also started barfining less and less from gogo bars and past few years maybe only one time I barfined from one because of these crazy prices. This channel had a great video discussing the decline in service and attitudes of girls in general. You combine that with the high barfines of gogos and just not worth the risk for me to pay crazy money for a barfine just to have a lady with a bad attitude.

I typically barfine about 1 AM in whatever bar I happen to be in. Girls are happy because they know that will be the end of their day as time will be up after their bar closes and they will not have to return until the next evening. On a side note, I saw you pass at least three 7-11's in that 1 block tour. I have always found it interesting that out of the thousands of 7-11's in Thailand, I have never found one there that sells Slurpees. ;-)

Massage parlours are options too, you have the time to chat with the girl, if you like her many will spend time with you after work. It suits me as I’am not a drinker anymore and I’ve found out that a lot of girls don’t like drinking either!

I have never bar fined, normally pick a freelancer. But if the occasion was to arise I pick your opinion, I would find out what time she finished work, one in morning would be ideal, come back and pay no bar fine. She would stay long time. If she is not there there are plenty of others to look for especially at that time of night.

I agree with everything you say. However I do things slightly differently. I have girl days and other days. I will find a girl early, late afternoon. Go for long time. Go for a few beers, back to hotel to discuss the price of beer..then out for a few more beers and back to hotel. Then if she is good fun, maybe a second day... it never a third.

I would not want to add stress to emotion. If you find a girl that in your eyes is a 10 and you sit and speak with her , have a few drinks. Her personality fits you, don't be a fool. Pay the bar fine and leave with her. Contrary to what others say, if you choose to walk away, you might not find another good fit for you.

Rarely are the Ladies interested in anything but short time now. I have often made arrangements to meet a girl at a later time when no bar fine is involved. It has never been an issue. It would be interesting to hear your thoughts on this extortionary demand from bar owners if a girl chooses to quit the bar and go live with a customer. I never pay the bar fine. I just go back to the bar 30 minutes before closing time and ask her if she like to join up later for food. Works most of the time.

I can only speaK from experience and this was pre covid, I never paid more than 300 baht for bar fine and no more then 2500 baht for long time. I would always get the the lady between 5 to 5:30pm. the reason for this the price would be the same if you got the lady at 12:30am so I get an extra 5 hours for the same price.

Bar fines are for guys who are going to be in Pattaya for a few weeks. If you're going to be in Pattaya for a few months or longer it's easier and cheaper to date local women. If you're 45 or look 45 or younger and are reasonably athletic looking it's not hard to find a local woman to date. Even easier if you know a few words of Thai. Granted it is not as easy to date local Thai women as it is to date local women in the Philippines but it isn't difficult. For most Thai woman dating a white guy is dating up for them. Especially if you're paying for the dates. I found 7-11, McDonald's, other fast food outlets and other small stores were great sources for available women. Of course the malls were also good places to meet women. The downside is many Thai women, like Filipino women often fantasize about dating and marrying a white guy. So both women tend to want to progress from dating to a more permanent relationship rather quickly. If you're meeting her parents after the 2nd date it may be time to think about breaking up unless you think she's a keeper.

I usually Bar Fine about midnight and go long time. Earlier I will barfine and go short time. I don’t barfine and go clubbing. I’m not a big drinker and I don’t want a drunk girl. To me a place like Insomnia is a waste of time but that’s my taste. I usually don’t go for Freelancers. I like bar girls and agogo girls. It’s can be expensive but I try and minimize the cost. Bar fining is never an impulsive thing for me, I am either there to have a good time and buy a few lady drinks and leave or to find a hot girl that I have a good interaction with to barfine. First thing I do in a the cheap Charlie beer bars is pay a few bar fines here and there and just hope I can remember the previous beer bars i bar fined in before I get to sozzled up . Usually I forget .

Last time I went, I did notice alot more bars have tried to get the ladies fees upfront like the Philippines. I never agree to that.

I never Bar Fined and walked away, If I Bar Fined I would do it after I had made my mind up about them, sometimes I would take them out to places that some of them hadn't been to. But I did get the odd few that I saw more than once say to me that they would meet me at my hotel room after they finished so that I didnt have to pay the Bar Fine.

I have a few options first I fine out when they get off of work. second get there phone # or Line Id Third kinda goes with the 2nd give them your number or Line and call in the morning. If you live here theres always tomorrow but if your here on holiday your not wanting to do any of that because your ready to go. Good Buzz

Easiest way I feel, is when you find someone fun and you like the look of, conducted the necessary negotiations, get the BF out of the way and proceed to the fun part of the evening. Dont see the point in messing around. Job done.

Trevor, agree with all points except 1, that is, if you bar fine her and still want to continue around girlie bars your bill will be double. Not true, if you stay in the bar, you are paying Girlie drink prices 150 - 180B for her, however if you bar fine her and take her out, now her drinks are normal price ie 80 - 100B. however if you don't bar fine her and come back later, when you go into bars alone, you will still have to pay for Girlie bar drinks for anyone you chat with 150 - 180B again. So, if you see a girl you like, go with your instinct and take her with you, sure visit other bars and if you should see a girl that you really want or prefer, make a note of the bar and go back another time to see that girl. Simples!!!

Great video as usual, Trev. What a wonderful problem to face on a daily basis! I wish I had this problem now 😂! As for myself, I don’t have a set strategy. Sometimes I strike while it’s hot and get the deed done ASAP so I don’t lose her. And sometimes I take an optimistic approach, keep moving to a few bars and if I didn’t find anyone I’d come back but without any expectations.

Haha many times I've gone out and gone bar to bar, sometimes meeting the most gorgeous girl and making a mental note that I should go back later and BF her. Trouble was after a lot of bars and a lot of beers I used to forget which bar or girl I intended to end up with. One thing though, the most beautiful girls disappear early, so you risk missing out if you leave it too late.

Better to get them short time and send them on their way safer and you can sleep with no worries.

My old stomping ground on Soi 8. Best time is 9 and 10 at night after the night is coming to the end or heading to the disco on walking street.

I didn't usually pay a bar fine, if I saw a girl in a bar I like, I ask her if she does short time. If she says yes I take a photo of her, with her permission and get her phone number. If you get drunk that night its probably a waste of time and money anyway. The next day I look at the photos I've taken, because I probably don't remember what the girls look like. Then I call one of them and ask her if she's available, and how much. If the answer is yes and the price is agreed then arrange a place to meet. I'm married now so that's stopped a long time ago.

Depends on the bar. If its a bar full of jp, kr or chinese men, you'll need to barfine asap you see a girl you like. Or it will be too late. Unfortunately. So that is one reason to avoid such bars. Other bars, just go with the flow and dont stress. Never barfine someone and then leave saying you will come back. Thats asking for a scam.

Thanks for the info. I've got another follow-up question on this subject. So, if I get it right there are two fees to negotiate: 1) the bar fine (and I suppose you negotiate and pay this to the bar owner or manager?) 2) the price for ST or LT (and I suppose you negotiate and pay this to the lady?) The question I got is: when do you pay the lady for the ST or LT (when she is in your hotel room or do you have to pay her upfront before she leaves the bar?) Any ideas, or suggestions on this? Thanks again. Soapies seem to be much easier with all prices clearly indicated even by color 🙂

On a side note, it looks like they’re doing some maintenance/construction work on Soi 7. Hopefully this Soi gets busy again. I’m optimistic in general that Pattaya will come back as good as it has been in the last few years. Although a big way to make that happen would be to devalue the Thai Baht.

Hi again. Here's my take on bar fines......Firstly, it is essential to get a good idea about the girls who work in the establishment before deciding to take her out albeit for a short or long time. Also, it is far easier to attract a girls in the company of a good mate or like in my case my brother....However, the girls do have feelings and can at times become attached a little bit more than a casual fling would allow but that's ok too. I disagree with the the comments made by C D'Cruze and find that the girls working in the bars do have needs and most of them have families to support and for a farang to try to skim or rip them off is simply cowardly.....enjoy what Thailand has to offer, make some friends and karma will not follow......cheers mate

In Panama when I was stationed there I would early in the night get a short time girl, grab a cheap room nearby for a couple hours, and once done, come on back to the bars.

My advice is the bar fine immediately if she is a total superstar and she’s cool. She will definitely be gone when you come back if you don’t and you might not get a chance to go back.

Thank you for the advice & tips. The majority of my time spent in Pattaya I was fine with just having fun at a beer bar early and then heading to a gogo. On a night that I had planned to do a var fine in the evening I would only have colas or ginger ales. I want to remember and umm "perform my best" I will have a few and barfine NO promises or emotional ties it is just lust and business. I always have the other tip$$$ in my secret money belt. I would NEVER open my room safe in front of a girl.

I find it best and cheapest to bar fine later. Especially if you are not even ready to go yet. If you bar fine to early you could end up sitting there for another 3 hours buying her lady drinks all night which could leave you with a pretty big bar tab at the end of your night. If it is still early and you find a girl you like the best thing to do is get her out of her bar as quickly as possible. If you Wana continue drinking go to another bar where they won't be charging you lady drink prices for her drinks. Also as the nights start to wear on the girls start to get alittle more desperate and lower their prices aswell as alot of bars reducing the bar fine prices so if it isn't busy it could be a good idea to wait till later in the night. Or if you are a cheap Charly you could try n get the girls number or give her yours n meet her after she finishes her shift in the bar and not pay a bar fine at all. Some think it's a good idea too bar fine early then come back for her but I don't like that at all. There's a high chance you won't be the first soldier into the trench that night if you do that.haha

In my opinion, it's all down to your attitude experience, and personality. Don't bullshit them and be friendly and speak the truth and tell them what you want from them. Yes, they are working girls and most of them will go for the most money being offered. Not all of them though. I go for personality and banter, not a plastic dull immaculate stunner who is draped in gold and fancy hairstyles. Every farang has their own game some are better at playing it than others but if you are happy with your own game that's all that matters to you. I think proximity to your hotel plays a role. I would always stay at the grand hotel on soi 1 so if I did find a smoke show I could take them back to the room have my fun then send them on there way all within a few hours. Gives you more time and freedom to do what you please
