Akane Yamaguchi is a legend in her own right. The first Japanese woman to win a Malaysia Open. This game is an epitome of her greatness. She persevered; she dug deep; and she always believed in herself. She’s an inspiration.

Yamaguchi is such a hard worker (as well as possessing all the skills), it's such a physically demanding game, top-level singles, and she had some tough matches. When she wins, no theatrics, just a handshake and a little bow, so nice. Good tournament for ASY too, still so young.

I love Yamaguchi but I'd like to take a moment to praise An Seyoung's growth. While not in top form, she still showed calm, quiet grace and strength in the first set. It's so unfortunate as the match progressed her stamina wasn't able to keep up, but regardless I'm wishing a bright future ahead of her. You will shine babygirl! 🎇

Kudos to AY. She has a height and reach disadvantage, She therefore has to work harder by running fast to cover the court. ASY, the younger player, ran out of puff.

As soon as ASY recovers her full form she will be unstoppable, her anticipation and skill are delightful to watch, not only bringing strength but softness in the touch, controlling the shuttle at her will. Akane played again as perfect as she knows, never giving up, what a good match 🥇

AY just has the game needed to beat extra defensive players like asy.. if she reduces few unforced errors, it will be always straight sets.. hope other players learn from AY how to have patience to beat extra defensive players

Yamaguchi really is something else to be able to stand up to those punishing rally in the 2nd set, and it was An Se Young who ran out of gas in the end.
