The piece at the beginning of the video is the toccata from the sixth partita in E minor. I saw a couple people ask in the comments.

Just wanted to say that you, making me discover Bach's partitas by making these videos, is a huge reason why I started learning the harpsichord 3 years ago. This one is my absolute favourite. Thank you.

The Sarabande is one of the most sublime and uplifting music I have ever heard. I'm so glad to be truly "discovering" Bach after having heard it many times without the enjoyment that now I have in his music.

Gerubach, your videos are just so well done!! They are all very professional, and I appreciate the background information and translation at the beginning of this video and other similar ones. I have probably listened to more than half of your videos now, mostly harpsichord and organ ones. Thank you so much!

I only very recently discovered that not only is Trevor Pinnock a great conductor, but a harpsichordist, as well - and WHAT a harpsichordist, too!!! I don’t understand why he hasn’t merited the same publicity and fame, as the great pianists have.

Ahh, this brings me back to when I was 5-6 years old... I love this piece! And a great harpsichordist of course. I do have a question: What is the name of the piece that is playing at the beginning of this video? Many thanks for your great work Gerubach, I look forward to the other partitas :)

What notation program do you use? Do you even use one? I copy works into Musescore. It's great cuz it's free!! Would love to help if possible. Trevor Pinnock. I got to see him perform the Brandenburgs at UCLA several years ago. It was wonderful. I have several recordings of his. I like his tempos.

The Gigue, with one hand, I want to be harpsichordist and record all the works of Bach, but it then becomes difficult.

Martijn Pieterman The Gigue is with two hands but one hand is crossing over the other. The notes in Red represent the "hand-crossing" over the eight notes played by the other.

It hurts me to say this as a pianist, but I must betray my instrument and say that the gigue just sounds better on the harpsichord
@Mase251
@Mase251 3 жыл бұрын
And it hurts me to hurt you, but in my opinion EVERY composition by Bach sounds better on the harpsichord, it’s just the right instrument for it. But it shows Bach’s genius that it can also sound good on a piano, an organ and so on. The French and Italian harpsichord school works only this instrument, everything else sounds inadequate imho

Beautiful stuff. To any harpsichord players, how do you make the harp-like sound at the 2nd time through the first minuet? Is it a 3rd manual or something?
