I wish pianists would listen more to harpsichordists and less to pianists of name (who don't understand Baroque music). Being a pianist myself I adore good harpsichord playing and learn from it big time!

Harpsichords are a different kind of beautiful. Sure, piano has a lot of different possible effects, but there is something about the harpsichord that makes it so beautiful. Knowing that in Bachs time keys with a lot of flats or sharps were basically never used, I wouldn't know how to react if I lived during Bachs lifetime and heard the prelude and fugue in Ebm for example. It would be such a wild experience

Absolute facts. So many works of Bach are diminished by piano interpretations. Chromatic fantasies arpeggio runs are meant for harpsichord. There are plenty more options but that's a recognizable piece. Bwv923 and 944 are less known but their arpeggio sections are breathtaking on harpsichord.

@@davidkolodziejczak370 Now I'm in trouble! Well, we have the word "kloot", pronounced "cloat", which means ball. Then "zak", pronounced "zák" I guess, means bag or pocket. So you can guess the meaning now. Tell me if you want me to remove this please. (By the way, Mozart would have loved this!)

Pure music...pure satisfaction. Thank you. I note that Thomas Field, in a comment below, states that these videos should have millions of views. Well, Bach's solo works are more abstract then his works intended for public performance. That might have something to do with it.

I seriously cannot get enough of the Minuet and the Gigue!! They are quite catchy and reside in my mind for the rest of the day, no matter what I do. Great video, thank you!

please do not confuse harpsichord with lautenwerk. I've seen many commenters confuse the timbres and that is irritating. It's okay that they don't know but please, compare this partita to BWV 996, 997, 998 or 1006a and see what I mean. They're all on this channel anyway

Ricardo, feel free to ignore the factoidal corrections. They are not important IMO. I'm excited and uplifted that you listened to the piece at all, and especially that you noticed and loved the sound used for the Aria. And that you drew attention to the Aria so that I could enjoy it as well! 🙂

My favorite here is definitely the Allemande. It's very Bach in style, but gives me the feeling of a Mozart slow movement, if that makes any sense.

I searched for a bit - what passage are you thinking of? There are some Fa natural, lesser than I thought! but still. Is it at the end of 1.part of the Allemande? That piece of music is however you listen just amazingly poetic and breathtaking.

This music sounds like Bach was improvising, on german beer. It's so different from his other keyboard music, elaborate like Schubert. Or maybe he had Anna Magdalena write down an improvisation on more beer than he usually had while composing, and she corrected the mistakes. Or he didn't have his coffee. But Pinnock is my hero!
