I am a fan of BYD’s blade battery and DM-i technology. Its DM-i technology is truly amazing, it makes Toyota’s hybrid be like a technolog from the Paleolithic Period. I guess that's why Toyota is gonna adapt BYD’s DM-i technology.

Yeah the Japanese auto industry must be feeling like how the U.S. car makers felt around about 1978, when foreign competitors (the Japanese of that era) started eating their lunch. In fact China itself is starting to feel the sting of competitors in Vietnam and India but it'll be a while before they take away China's car industry.

Lmao. The DM-i 5.0 is like a straight up revolution. Gas cars that size (Camry) uses 10L+ gas per 100km during city drive. Qin L uses 2.1 L/100km (when there's no electricity). I was like how? it's impossible? But they did achieve it. The only things I saw on western forums regarding it was just 'it's CCP propaganda', 'it's bs advertisement' etc. It's like they are bots working for CIA or something.

China's vehicles were progressing at phenomenal speed whether it is EVs or hybrids. BYD's DMi Gen 5 hybrids just became headlines for their above 2000km range on a 65L full tank fuel & a full charge. Now their battery had another breakthrough. Other automakers are in such stress to catch up.

@@greghudson9717 Greg, you hear about Chinese EV fires “all the time” (your words) because they really are in fact catching fire in China. Yes, currently the growth has slowed, and yes, some companies are changing their - I’d say *emphasis* rather than overall direction, but does that mean EVs won’t ultimately replace ICE? No, I think at most it may delay an inevitability. In so many ways EVs are (already) simply better than ICE, as steam was to sail, as cars were to horses, and they’re rapidly and consistently improving. Soon I reckon they’ll beat ICE on probably every metric, including price. Leaving only “petrol heads” unconvinced. All of these battery metrics and specifications. There are two that are primary, because they will determine "where the battery technology can be used" and I don't see it mentioned or listed very often. (1) Power to weight ratio. (2) Power to size or volume ratio, as well as the (3) Power to dollar ratio. The ideal would be all of: "high power", "light weight", "small size", "low cost", "long useful life", "quick charging". If a battery met all that criteria, it could be used in almost any device, and in almost any application. The extreme extension of that would be: something the size of your thumb could power your house for a year.

If indeed there is this capability then customers will demand an improved grid and politicians will suddenly support it. Home charging will work the same, overnight. Another thing is that gas stations can convert because a few chargers can handle the traffic. They have the locations, are attended (safe) and have minimarts. And of course there can be on-site storage batteries that can charge up at night and dispense amps during the day. Don’t know about the charging cable though.

One of the biggest advantages of blade batteries, is the amount of surface area on each cell, compared to the volume. The better heat can be carried off, the higher the maximum charge/discharge rate the battery is capable of. You will NEVER see those charge rates, with Tesla's larger cylindrical cells, because you just can't get the heat out of the centers of the cells.

I agree, it makes for a pretty strong argument to lease, not buy an EV at this point in time. Personally, I have gone the PHEV route with a Honda Clarity and I do over 90% of my driving in electric only mode which is good enough for now. If the hype can be believed, by the time my Clarity is done, the pure EVs will be much more compelling.

Presumably a row of chargers will need a multi-MegaWatt electrical supply, else a large battery of a few MWh to provide a buffer to cope with a range of both intermittent and intensive charging station occupancy. Will the economics of very fast charging mean a further hike in price per kWh, or is faster throughput in vehicles expected to dilute fixed costs and reduce retail cost per kWh ?

Where will I find a 600 kW charger? In the U.S., households consume 1.2 kW on the average, so this charger would draw as much power as 500 households to charge a single vehicle. I suppose it's possible in principle, but if I can't find 600 kW chargers on my road trips, a vehicle able to charge at this rate does me no good. I often don't get the 50 kW my Bolt will accept at public fast chargers.

Something no one ever mentions. I never fill up ...unless I plan to drive more then 100 miles or so... I am tetired but don't travel much thus I drive an average of 60 or so miles tops per week.... My point is if I owned an EV with decent range and a new battery type I would literally either never need to charge up away from home and if I did i could charge either once a month or for 3 to 5 minutes a few times a month. My point is worrying about charge times at this point in EV technology is a waste of time.

No BYD cars in the USA, they need to protect corporate monopolies like Tesla from real competition. If we could buy an electric car for half the price of Tesla and had fast charging, then you would see real EV adoption in the USA versus token adoption. I am not an electric car fan because they have been overpriced, under ranged and take to long to charge. However, that could change if our government didn't have protectionism in place that stifles innovation. While, I haven't been an electric car fan, I see the future and own some BYD stock.

600kwh charging sounds great. But think about this: 10,000 w per second transfer. This is equivalent to 41A per second @ 240v. This isn’t exactly something compatible with the current charging infrastructure. It may require batteries to work like capacitors and that would mean at least 5-10 years before you can use this technology practically. 😂😂😂

What they dont realize is they are alreay here and have been for some time . They build buses and trucks and fork lifts and energy storage units . They do that with a union labor force . They do that with American stockholders like Warren Buffet . .Hopefully this channel will help to educate those that choose to be educated . Keep up the good work .
