As a doctor myself let me explain it to me. 4 pregnancies at 22 year old. Can you imagine how much pressure was put on that girls body. It means she Atleast started getting pregnant at 18. Pregnancy takes such a high toll on the body of women. And 4 pregnancies means she is constantly undernourished. Malnourished. If she dies out of bleeding it's actually not something rare. People should learn what's the most common cause of death in child brith in India. It's PPH. And doctors can do only that much. The uterus which has been cut is a scarred uterus. It doesn't contract. So bleeding doesn't stop. Now imagine a uterus so lax after 3 child births. A floppy uterus with scarring. Do you imagine how things can go south immediately. From my point of view the whole family should be put into jail for treating that girl like a cow to be bred until she gives a male child. I Remeber during my internship... 17 year Olds used to bleed to death..... After giving birth. And the only thing that you can do is to rip the uterus out and seal all the blood vessel. And then the relatives won't give consent for the surgery. We kept on pumping blood she kept on bleeding. Until we all looked at each other faces and stood there whole night. There are few emergency operations can be carried out in such cases but in a very advanced facilities. Where blood doesn't take 2 hours to come from blood bank, where you don't have to do 50 pages of paper work before you can take the patients in for an emergency surgery. Where doctors don't have to run from sky to hell to make sure things are in place for the operation. Such places are a rare even in Europe. I have known patient who had bled to death from the uterus, after simple abortion procedure. Pregnancy causes huge a mount of blood supply to the uterus. Through which the baby is supplied nutrients. When you remove the baby..... It ls a blood bath. Usually the uterus contracts hard.. And the bleeding stops. But in 3-4 times pregnancy, the uterus has lost all its tone. It's flabby. And there is a whole lot of advanced procedures to tackle that. And in some cases as this one.... All of them had failed.

The lady whose age was 22 at her 4th pregnancy had 3 girls before her death. The case was very complicated, still the doctor followed each and every procedure during the bleeding of the patient. The HB of the patient was also low, so there was no negligence from the doctor. Also, the politician had old quarrels with the doctors because they had complained about him earlier to police. So with the help of a reporter, the politician created a scene with the dead body in front of the hospital and forced the police to file murder case. The doctors were ready to pay the patient's family 3 lakh rupees but the politician told the family to take no less than 50 lakh rupees. He also gathered goons using dalit angle against the doctors. 🙏🏽

The reason why doctors get so much scrutiny is because Asians/Indians, hold them to such a high standard. How many Indian parents want their children to become doctors?

As a surgeon myself to all the new doctors here much of this can be prevented by observing few rules. 1. Doesn't matter if the patient is your friend or relative or neighbour or your regular old patient - remain very professional and blunt. Don't give free services. Don't break protocols for them. If it's necessary, it's necessary. It's these kinds of patients who do you and your reputation maximum harm. Everybody wants a quick fix. Don't give them that. It's harmful for both. 2. Explain and drill it into the heads of the patients relatives about the risk involved in a procedure. Don't move forward unless they sign forms and information sheets. 3. Have printed sheets in English and Hindi/local language regarding all the risks involved for each surgery that you perform, and go through each of them with the guardian and patient. Don't given any weightage to chacha, tau, mama etc. Most of them are there for tamasha of it. They are at best distractors as far you are concerned. If you want to get rid of them just ask them to sign the consent forms..... And see how all of them vanish (from experience) . They will leave the mother father/son/wife alone with the ailing patient and vanish . Ofcourse involve other members when you see its necessary. When you see the gaurdian is in a huge dilemma or is unable to take decision. Then involve others. Primary goal is the patient and the gaurdian should understand what they are going in for. 4. 4 out of 10 people will tell you they will not sign and that you are free to chose whatever the best is for the patient. That is not trust. That is a trap. Be very firm and blunt....dont move an inch forward unless the guardian and the patient themselves have understood the risks, and have consented to take that risk separately. , don't keep same fillable forms as consent forms, courts have issued orders against it. Or Atleast have large sections where you can add additional points. Read it to the patient. Infact record it, medical grade sound recorders are available. Keep the transcripts. Store them. Record. Record. Record. Record everything on paper. audio, video are adjunct. Video may become a privacy concern. So be careful regarding video. 5. If the man cares so much about his father, he should be willing to sign the forms. If not don't risk your life and profession at risk for his father. Remember this is a profession. means by which you feed your family, and give them a roof and comforts and support your parents. 6. Initially patients will run away from you, because you scared the shit out of them. But complications happen all the time. And they will happen to those patients too. Then they Remeber you, the one guy who had warned them clearly about it. This Has happened to me. The patient had died, But the whole family now visits me because I had told that death was a very real possibility for the patient. They thought I was mad, and went and got operated somewhere else. People look for someone trust worthy when they are up for their health. Your bluntness will be your most desired feature within few years. 7. You are the one to give options. And they decide what options to chose. Don't reverse the roles here. Don't tell them what to chose. Tell them why to chose each option. 8. Before every surgery, ask the patient a simple question - what is it that the patient is seeking from this treatment. Some patients really think that they are going to be as good as new. You will have to break that delusion and give them realistic expectations. 9. Don't delegate pre surgery counselling to your subordinate staff. You will be running the knife. You talk. It takes 15 minutes to do all of the above. But prevents situations like these from occurring. 10. Modulate your counselling based on educational status of the patient. Some will misunderstand you completely if you give them too much technical details. Dumb it down for them. It's not related to IQ of the patient., it's just how much information is at their disposal. If the patient is well educated, internet savvy , give them a through understanding of what you are going into. Explain to them like you would explain a new medical student. The patients go back to Google baba. When things start to match what you have said, It builds trust. They understand that they are making an informed decision rather than being shepherded by the doctor. This is important. Remeber it's their body. But don't overexplain stuff. It's not good. They will become overwhelmed by their own research, and you would be pissed at how much you have to talk to that patient. You would be amazed how much everybody wants to play doctor once they start understanding few basic stuff. I mean it's all ultra intresting stuff. Keep it professional. At all times. Not over. Not under. Blunt. Blunt. Straight forward. Rude if required. And most importantly record.. Record. Record. Record. Given the present situation safeguard yourself first.

Alcohol is different from ghutka and smoking. While all are harmful, alcohol takes away a persons decision making capabilities. Regardless of that, i dont think it should be banned and it only leads to corruption and rise of mafia.

Whoever is not a qualified medical doctor must not comment on whether there was complication or negligence. Even a court can't comment on it because it's such a technical judgement. Only a panel of doctors must make judgements on such highly technical issues. Doctors must not come under consumer forum at all.

There is a cultural difference: in other states parents drink and keep alcohol at home how they would stop their children of drinking, while in gujarat this is not culture.

It is a very common practice in rural areas where the local leaders , irrespective of political parties, threaten Drs. In unfortunate incidence of a death , this attack by mob is routine....and at the end the local leaders make the Dr cough up money.....here also supposedly, they demanded Rs 50 lakhs.....and so become the saviour for the mob for getting the justice for the patients family...,.so whenever any one dies these leaders rush to their family with the support in the form of mob....and become their " leader" and get the justice.

As a medical aspirant myself I fear these types of cases to deal with nowadays. Doctor is not God even though dr tries everything in his hand but still body doesn't responds as we want it to. Courts must have some protection for doctors against such cases . First provide protection and then allow investigation properly.

Well legally the doctor will not be held responsible unless medical negligence is proved coz during every C section a form is signed by patient saying they are well aware of the risks involved in the surgery which could sometimes be lethal. Unless there is something that has happened and someone has a proof of it they can’t file charges with sections on doctors. I think in this case considering the patient was only 22 and was already having a 4th kid isn’t a simple matter. I wish the doctor had someone who had not let her get scared

About Rajasthan suicide ,No there won't be any case of Medical negligence or caste based discrimination because That Lady had twins delivered by same doctors one years earlier . The Patient was going to Dausa for treatment , On reaching govt hospital they Asked for something , So they revert back asking these doctors to do the Delivery . Regarding Delivery PPH can occur in C section as well as during normal delivery , This is a rare phenomina which has nothing to do on what procedure you deliver the baby . PPH bleeding can result in serious deaths If Muscles doesnot close tightly , Doctors do not have anything to stop this bleeding except for Massage and blood donation which they did . So There will not be any case of Medical negligence . 2. Regarding Liquor Ban , Well Liquor ban in Bihar happened because IT WAS THE DEMAND OF RURAL WOMENS ORGANISATION IN THEIR LETTER TO CM back in 2000s .Many women wings protested and Voted Nitish kumar Jut because he promised liquor ban . Though Kushal could have lived in Villages but He wasn't lived like a women of a drunk man . He barely had seen how a drunk man beat his wife Openly in village and nobody dare to Rescue that women . There is a lot of self-control, as it is not easily available.
