That being said, if they sat still and let the fighters roll in while blasting into the swarm, they could reduce their numbers and still employ the punching manoeuvre; however, if they pushed in with the fighter swarm then I'd want to tighten my formation into a pyramid shape, as their cap ships push in they'd be forced to go around the sides (any large ships which breached the formation would be immediately targeted) - the core of the pyramid would hold my fighter swarm which would lash out randomly and in mass at the enemy fighter/bombers (again any fighter/bombers that breached the formation would be targeted). It may work, it may not, but this is how I'd try to beat them. If all else failed I could at least try to make it a Pyrrhic victory for them.

It's either Capitals are useless and their designs incompetent or plot armour being the reason why the starfighters are so...I don't even know. Because if starfighters were the case then the Droids would have won the war against the Republic.

I wouldn't say overblown. Inconsistent would be a better term. There are times when the Rebel Fleet struggles against just one Star Destroyer, then in other times a few Rebel fighters easily disable a Star Destroyer with a few shots. Or CIS fleets struggling to hold and take planets despite the fact that that one Lucrehulk brings 1,000 Vulture Droids on its own. Its as you said, starfighters are only as dangerous as the plot needs them to be.

Personally I'd go with the Fall of Coruscant. Yes Yuuzhan'tar was the bigger fight (by far since it practically included every remaining fleet in the galaxy) but it was a more or less standard space battle with a more interesting ground assault. The fall had more variety and more interesting diversions including new techniques and technologies, as well as a lot of coverage in the books in comparison. While Yuuzhan'tar was a relatively massive engagement it was measured in time under 48 hours. The fall was a fight lasting over a week involving the total destruction of multiple New Republic fleets, the first deployments of YVH droids, the refugee hijacking and ramming of the Coruscant shield, Jedi raids featuring the early use of Shadow Bombs, talk of how the ground batteries of Coruscant functioned and if I remember correctly the first deployment of Yamosk Jammers (although too late to save the day) That's forgetting all the small personal stuff like Ben Skywalker's kidnapping and the destruction of Kyp's Dozen.

Palpatine actually died and only came back as a ghost through sheer skill in supernatural dark side sorcery. Maul was cut in half and fell 10,000 feet into a planet and somehow physically survived it. (inb4 darth sion)

I think a more interesting match up would be the Supremacy vs the Long Night of Solace. 2 very large ships, one twice as long as the other.

The Covenant fleet at Reach was enormous, not even mentioning the shipmasters' skill. Spartan Abrams is correct, if the Worst Order did not turn tail immediately, they'd be torn apart by the first 1/10 of the fleet they ran into.

Even if we assume that the Covenant ships can be one-shot by the Supremacy, the First Order still loses horribly to the massive amount of Covenant ships numbering at over 300, not to mention the Long Night of Solace.

Each Venator carries 420 starfighters, not including the bombers and gunships that can also be used. Assuming that each Venator can launch its complement, and we'll say 7500 venators since eck says 5000-10000 Venators took part in Cour Defense, that's 3.1 MILLION fighters. If the republic were smart enough they would overwhelm anything that was thrown at them

I think that to made this more fair, you could make one CSO Supercarrier, one executor, two imperators and something like 10 Mercury-Class Don't take my claims over battlestar galactica seriously, I don't want to spend all day searching information for a comment :P

You've got a point and I agree but a lot of people are also forgetting the heavy turbolasers on the Venators, the (Legends) Wookieepedia page states that the Venator's main armament rivaled the Imperial 1 Star Destroyer's main battery of turbolasers. I'm not saying that's the decisive factor in this battle but the main fleet of Venators are going to be able to clear the way for their starfighters by killing the Imperial escorts (if there are any) or start knocking out the Imperial Star Destroyers in the Byss Defence Fleet pretty quickly in their own right taking a lot of pressure off of the starfighters in the process.

Admiral Thrawn I believe he may be talking about the main weapons. The ISD had octuple (to long name) turbo laser battery’s and the venator has similar if slightly weaker turbo lasers. The ISD outguns a venator due to the amount of turbo lasers placed all over the ship in place that a venator would have used light laser cannons. The imperial was much more anti capital instead of a jack of all traits.

Not a single devastator could be touched by the new republic MUCH LESS an old republic fleet.

Master Chief wins the majority because of a lifetime of training, augmentation, and a.i. support while also having weapons that are made to go against enemies that are strong enough to go hand-to-hand with a krogon (elite) while also having technology at the equivalent of the reapers when facing the systems alliance and still being able to kill entire hordes of them. then Shepard the space wizard who has training on par with an odst and weapons who shoot sand sized pellets which while faster bullet speed than standard unsc weapons are non the less less-potent with the amount of damage that could be caused when compared with unsc weapons. P.s. don't even get me started on the half ton starship armor with sheilding vs the latex plastic hybrid armor with paper thin sheilding that most likely couldn't take a grunts punch.

indeed.like i love the republic and all,its my favourite faction and i love republic tech and clones and all that ,im a die hard republic fan,but they simply dont stand a chance in this .hell the coruscant fleet had a hard time with an invading cis fleet.and the byss fleet is far above that.the gap in technology between this empire and the republic of that time is so great its not even funny

the only way i honestly see the republic winning is if they bring thousands upon thousands of ventaros with full fighter load ,and they just overwhelm the biss fleet wich sheer fucking fighter volume ,but even that is a stretch.they gotta take a lot of fighters and jedis with them ,powerfull jedis at that . but basicaly i see the empire winning 9/10 times

Single ISD solo godstomps all of the fiction omniverse. I can give you the explanation Let's see how powerful we can make the good old ISD. Dodonna quote says the Death Star has more firepower than half the starfleet combined. Pellaeon quote says the Empire had 25,000 star destroyers. Death Star yield is around 1e38j, divided by 12, 500, gives an ISD almost 2 yottatons for a full broadside. Hmm... Not wanky enough. How many Imperial ships did we even see in ANH? I recall 4 ISDs. Legends is non-canon now, so let's assume that was the entire Imperial fleet (all the ships in the later movies could have been built later). So each broadside would equal somewhere around 11-12,000 yottatons. Pfft. We need to go wankier. Going back to Legends (because why not?) I recall that the "Behind the Magic" CD stated that Dodonna's quote referred to not the Imperial starfleet, but the Alliance starfleet. Conveniently ignoring all other EU sources again, the entirety of the Alliance starfleet seen in ANH consisted of roughly 30 fighters. Jumping back to the EU again, an ISD carries 72 fighters of its own, and many books say that fighters are no threat to capital ships except in huge numbers, like thousands. So let's say it takes 1000 fighters to match the firepower of an ISD, and 15 fighters have more power than the Death Star. So an ISD broadside has at least 6.66666666e39 joules. We've made an ISD more powerful than the Death Star, but that's still not enough. Let's forget Alderaan for a second, I remember a source saying that the Death Star had enough firepower to destroy "any inhabited planet". As no other qualifications were given for this statement, we can assume it refers to any inhabited planet in the setting. Stretching what counts as "the setting", Marvel published many Star Wars comics, and everything they've ever published technically exists somewhere in their omniverse. An old Fantastic Four comic featured an inhabited planet that "dwarfed galaxies". Let's go high-end and assume that planet was 10 times as big as the biggest galaxy. The largest galaxy discovered, IC1101, has a diameter of 6 million light years. So the Death Star can one-shot a planet 60 million light-years in diameter, and, as per our previous calculations, a full broadside from an ISD is 66.66666666 times that. An ISD can casually vaporize and survive collisions with objects that have beyond infinite KE, making an ISD's shielding and firepower at least 2 steps above infinite (Aleph 2). Hmm, now we're getting somewhere. But let's keep going. Wookieepedia says: The Force was a metaphysical, spiritual, binding, omnipotent and ubiquitous power that held enormous importance for both the Jedi and Sith monastic orders. So the Force is omnipotent. That means that, by definition, it's also infinite, and any infinite quantity divided by a finite number is just as infinite. As there are a finite amount of Force users, it stands to reason that every individual Force user is also omnipotent. Many Jedi have been killed by blaster bolts (order 66, etc.), therefore a single infantry blaster fires a bolt with beyond omnipotent power, capable of slaying an omnipotent, omniscient, all-powerful being capable of anything even if it's logically impossible. An ISD has a ridiculously greater amount of firepower than a blaster, therefore the power of an ISD is many orders of magnitude/infinity beyond a weapon which is more powerful than omnipotence. That should do it.
