Wasn’t the final Byzantine ottoman war in 1479 when Epirus (the successor state to the superior Byzantine empire) collapsed after fighting off the Ottomans

After conquering Constantinople, Mehmed II proclaimed himself as the Caesar of Rome and he was poisoned at the beginning of his Italian campaign after his troops had occupied the castle of Otranto. Dude legit almost created a Muslim roman Empire you might wanna do a video about him.

Isaac II never negotiated with the crusaders. It was his self-entitled, snobby menace of a son, Alexios IV. When the crusaders reached Constantinople, the people managed to fetch Alexio's blind old man from the dungeon, placing him on the throne instead of Alexios. Which forced the young Alexios to be co-Emperor. One power struggle later, and the two were killed after a palace revolution and from crusader retaliation. Their successor was staunchly anti-crusader, which gave the crusaders their excuse to sack the second Eternal City.

@@thebaconavenger8876 iirc wasnt the rule more about any body part missing rather than just blinding and castration since early byzantine emperors had their noses cut off when deposed until one of these deposed emperors retook his throne.

I used this in class, but in the end when you talk about adoption that seemed out of the blue, and I wasn't sure if it was a joke I didn't get. I asked the students and they didn't get it either. I had to be sure to stop the video before that part. Maybe someone can explain to me that part?
