When the crusaders reached Constantinople, the people managed to fetch Alexio's blind old man from the dungeon, placing him on the throne instead of Alexios. Which forced the young Alexios to be co-Emperor. One power struggle later, and the two were killed after a palace revolution and from crusader retaliation. Their successor was staunchly anti-crusader, which gave the crusaders their excuse to sack the second Eternal City.
