After conquering Constantinople, Mehmed II proclaimed himself as the Caesar of Rome and he was poisoned at the beginning of his Italian campaign after his troops had occupied the castle of Otranto. Dude legit almost created a Muslim roman Empire you might wanna do a video about him.

Isaac II never negotiated with the crusaders. It was his self-entitled, snobby menace of a son, Alexios IV. When the crusaders reached Constantinople, the people managed to fetch Alexio's blind old man from the dungeon, placing him on the throne instead of Alexios. Which forced the young Alexios to be co-Emperor. One power struggle later, and the two were killed after a palace revolution and from crusader retaliation. Their successor was staunchly anti-crusader, which gave the crusaders their excuse to sack the second Eternal City.

The crusaders didn't get greedy when they sacked Constantinople. The dude promised to give them enough money to pay for the crusade but didn't have the money.

guess why isaac was blinded. There was a law prohibiting emperors who were either blinded or castrated to rule.I mean blinded makes sense...but castrated..

@@thebaconavenger8876 iirc wasnt the rule more about any body part missing rather than just blinding and castration since early byzantine emperors had their noses cut off when deposed until one of these deposed emperors retook his throne.
