I hear the HF Pittsburg Pro tap and die set is actually pretty good and a very complete set, especially for the dough. Also, the Koken stuff is a work of art. It's incredible.

It's really easy to drop a few hundred dollars on a giant tap and die set, but you'll likely never use 90% of them. I'd bought a Gearwrench 82812 several years ago, but I work in facilities management, so I'm dealing on a wide variety of installations and equipment, both Metric and Imperial. I still haven't used more than a dozen of them, but I go ginger with them and haven't broken any. I like having a set just to have the option if I need it. Maybe a smaller set like a Hanson or Norseman? You can always replace the ones you use a lot with better brands. Same if you just want a few of some really common sizes. In the pricier grade, you could always go with OSG, Greenfield, Widia, Cle-Line -- there's loads of brands, but they're reaching manufacturer grade with manufacturer prices, and boy howdy can a single tap or die go from a $1 to >$100 real fast.

I agree with everything yes said. Especially with the big sets. We never use the taps or dies in there. So your best off grabbing a handful of different style and sized holders and then ordering the taps as needed from precision tooling manufacturers

A raised edge usually is to avoid ink to flow underneath the ruler. The Backedge is the cutting side, some rulers even have steel insets on the back

The raised edge on the ruler is for ink. When inking, a ruler that sits flat on the paper will cause the ink to run.

You could try Garant taps and dies (am satisfied with mine set) or maybe Emuge, but is more expensive.

Starrett tap holders and Schroder tap holders are amazing. Can’t go wrong with Irwin Hanson stuff to fill in gaps where needed. As far as the actual taps we order carbide or titanium taps as needed.

last order from amazon japan,I had a fast DHL delivery (didn't see options) but they broke down the order into 5 or 6 smaller orders, with some that didn't made sense, like 1 sma single item alone.. pain in the butt to track as well

I'm also looking for a good tap and die set for SAE and metric. Usually smaller than 3/8" and more tap use than die use. It would be nice to have a complete set of letter, number, SAE, metric drill sizes too. Most of the reviews I have searched for on youtube tend to be generic recommendations and I haven't worked in a machine/wood shop for 35 years or so, so it would be nice to find out what is currently available. I'm sure there are more accurate and better ones now.

I'm finding more options in metric than SAE. I found this really good video from HASS about taps. You might also find helpful. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mNGiiN141NWlaZ8.html

Kodiak Tools for taps and dies. You can go cheaper with a TEKTON Tap and Die Set which is made of quality steel. Otherwise get good taps and dies from Kodiak or Irwin. You can make your own set over time with quality spiral flute machine taps. I did a lot of research and found that the best strategy for me was to buy really good quality taps in the sizes I used the most (kodiak cutting tools or UNION BUTTERFIELD, Cleveland, Dormer, Gurhing, OSG) and got a Metric and Standard set to cover the rest with tekton, irwin or gearwrench.

i have way more than my share of taps and dies. The one thing i am not a fan of with the Koken style of tap drivers is you aren't putting equal torque onto the tap and that could easily fracture the tap in a hole. I would suggest keeping an eye out for used Greenfield Tap & Die or Butterfield wrenches for larger taps and a used Starrett tap handle for smaller ones. as for taps and dies , look only for high speed steel as carbon ones fracture way to easily . Quality tap and die sets are sold by machining tool suppliers like KBC, MSC, and Travers, but they aren't cheap. also you could buy some common quality taps and buy uncommon sizes and dies as the need arises.

Difference between your Tone drive joint and your wera. The Wera was never designed for power tools. It will literally explode under the power of a impact. For hand tools only. The Tone is designed for a cordless impact. I've had experience in the Wera style exploding in glorious fashion. Always wear eye protection....lol

Found a screwdriver on Amazon US from Japan for $3.83 and thought wow that’s super cheap so I’ll buy it. Yeah it’s $18 to ship it. I tried adding items and still didn’t help. The other item was $18 with free shipping yet I couldn’t get it free on the screwdriver even adding items to the cart.
