I worked in the control tower at Yokota for 8 years in the 1960s and 1970s. In the portion of the video that shows two towers side by side I worked in the old one that was the shortest of the two. It was built in the early 1960s to replace the old Japanese Tama Air Field Tower that had been on the other side of the runway. It really makes me feel old to see the one I moved into replaced by a newer one now. I remember the first C-5 that landed at Yokota, what a plane!

I passed thru Yokota on August 12, 1968, on my way to Vietnam (Pleiku). I think we were on the ground for 3 hours, and then on the Cam Ranh Bay, and a C-130 hop to Pleiku. We flew on a stretch DC-8 with Seaboard World Airlines. Six seats abreast, and about 36 rows or so...
Excellent work Takabo. You are one lucky guy to be able to see and hear one of these in person. Nothing can beat the sound of 4 GE TF39 screaming at 40,000lbs of thrust each. Pure music.
