Two years ago I’d be staring at that beautiful guitar horrified. Now, with hard work it finally all fits together. Thank you very much. Modes still to be mastered. But this way of explaining, without talk is simple and effective, which is actually the way to go. Not only regarding the solo but playing the chord on a particular beat...

Consulted my copy of Andy Jones' book FastFoward: Jazz Guitar Improvisation whilst watching this when Achim demonstrates the more authentic sounding Jazz scales to play over each chord and they both show the same scales for the same chords! Cm7 = C Dorian and so on. Talk about music being a universal language....! Great tutorial, Mr Kohl, thank you.

Teaching is a skill. Playing music is a craft. Very rarely you find professionals who can do both. Most You Tube teachers are 'showing ' THAT THEY CAN PLAY instead of teaching. Most do it so fast they expect EVERYONE to just catch their fast bus!!!. Apart from tryin to advertise their stuff. This guy is brilliant & unique - no wonder over 500 comments and all positively talking of how he lets the skill & knowhow Speak. No bla bla. Keep it up Kohl!!! You make our work as musicians proud!!!

Mr.Kohl is the best teacher of jazz tunes I have listen to & learn. His approach to teaching is exactly what a student of jazz yearn for. In his words "By applying the typical jazz phrasing", he shows how to be creative in using his melodic groove. Thanks. SL

I still miss your original "Autumn Leaves" which I listen to so often & tried to learn that tune. Sorry to see you deleting such a masterpiece. Your lesson of this tune is too long, too professional for a student & too difficult. Its meant for the professional & NOT the student. I hope you realize this teaching method. Teach us, the public, your 1st version of the tune. To learn it & play it for the public would be more acceptable for an average citizen. Too many notes in a tune is fine in jazz jam but NOT for the public. I as a filmmaker know the audience reaction in variety of listening environment. I would buy the 1st version but NOT the super long lesson. SL

Thank you Achim, a little over 50 years ago, used to listen to local jazz and blues guys, all accomplished, in their 60s and 70s, from the era, that's how I learned, from their inspiration. the guitar is so expressive, for me, more so than words, math, true feel, hard to explain to others, I used to play practice as if my guitar were another instrument. Almost forgot to learn what I don't know from the beginning, thank you Sir, high Regards!

My younger Brother is very humble, And, would never accept me doing anything at all on his behalf, I truly understand his feelings, May I send you something, if only to express my pride in him, something you might find irregardless in the Blues Genre , He still performs, but has always put his Family first, His stuff has been accessible for many years, online, from his past, he always puts his Family first. Our older brother, and Father, Think he was born in 1935, inspired us all, Robert, I understand how unusual this sounds, just for your ears Achim.
