Today Khoai will take you to visit Lung Cu at the northernmost of Vietnam. And the first place to visit today is Lung Cu flag tower, which can be seen as a milestone for people to visit and check in, while the real northernmost is located near the Nho Que river, heading to North a few more kilometers.
Leaving Lung Cu, Khoai goes to a small village of Yi people, the people are the masters in embroidery. If you come here, remember to spend some time strolling around to watch the hundred-year-old earthy yellow walls, and remember to take a moment to visit the Northernmost cafe to have a coffee cup and feel the air. This cafe is a gift from Mr. Yasushi Ogura, a Japanese who is in love with Vietnam. He spent 200 million vnd to support this Yi family to turn their house into a rest stop for tourists, the coffee shop is now a means to help Yi people earn money without losing the traditional culture.
For the rest of the day, Khoai wanders around the village to find a place to eat and drink. It’s very difficult because the homestays often have to be called in advance to cook for us. Luckily, I met Mr. Toan, an original Yi man, he brings me right back to his house and cooks some specialties immediately (I think I’m kinda lucky in eating). Mountain goat meat, smoked black pig meat with stir-fried pickled bamboo shoots, everything is hot and rich in highland flavor.
