Camila Cabello's 4th studio record, "C, XOXO", is a solid reset for the star but it's also a bit of a mess. 2 Drake songs, the final City Girls collab, and a Lana Del Rey cameo! In this video, we're going to dive into this 14 track record that's somehow Camila's most authentic and inauthentic record yet. I'm going to break it down for you before assigning this record a score! #cxoxo #camilacabello #popmusic

@@jc19900 but shes not an authentic artist. your perspective angers me somewhat because youre shaming people that have respect for pop music calling her and this album out for what it is. Its entirely opportunistic and unoriginal. Good pop music is not just trend chasing for the sake of it. This is clearly lost on far too many people. The album is not only derivative, but she does not convincingly own this hedonistic persona she desperately wants us to believe her as. Its cringeworthy and very much deserving of criticism.

@@24kgoldplatedvermeil your perspective angers me lol 🤣 how dare you call someone unauthentic just because they dont want to be held in one style of music. Reminds me of the hate Lady Gaga got when she did Joanne and her Jazz albums. You can't hold an artist to one genre just because thats what you want. Also what trend? Hyper pop is not the trend otherwise Charli XCX would be popular but she's not her albums don't sell she's underground because that's the amount of ppl that actually listen to hyper pop. Also why is it ok for Charli Xcx to go from pop like Boom Clap and Fancy to hyper pop but not other people? Stop gate keeping something she didnt even originate nothing about charli is original. Look at her fan base it's the gays who just like beats with no substance facts are facts

@@jc19900 your projection is wild because who mentioned charli or lady gaga here? I was not comparing her to ANYONE, i was calling out her blatant unconvincing persona. Shes no different than jojo siwa, she just made friends with the right people in the industry that prop her up and help her out with production and marketing. Maybe shes a nice person. But shes entirely void of originality and authenticity in what shes presenting here and in every album shes released prior. Shes as generic and formulaic as they come. She writes? Thats great. Doesnt change what i said. If you want to compare her to charli and gaga, they live and breathe their art with their whole effing chest. And what gaga at times lacks in believability with a direction like Joanne, she at least makes up for in her supreme performance ability and charisma. Camila doesnt have that. And im not saying all of this because im ignorant. Ive listened to all of her work, ive watched her speak on herself and her creativity, and my conclusion is that she seems nice but as an artist is a hollow shell. You resort to whataboutism as a deflection but the truth is shes just not all that great. But these days payola and a relentless social media presence overrides being worthy of sucess and actually ends up brainwashing people into caring. Just like insane radio play used to do back in the day. She became a meme, people responded negatively to what she released as they should, but because of that reverse psychology starts kicking in with some people and they then feel the need to be contrarian and defend her. But the thing is theres nothing to defend here. Idk i can go on but i dont think you get this. I think youre in it. And im done trying to plead my case here lol

I don’t know if this album will be entering my album of the year nominations because I feel really comfortable with the 4 albums I have already in those spots which are the tortured poets department the complete anthology from Taylor swift, Eternal sunshine from Ariana Grande, Brat from Charlie XCX and Older from Lizzy Mcalpine, and if any other releases make it into this list it may be Hit me Hard and soft from Billie Ellish and short n Sweet from Sabrina Carpenter. Totally agree with the Motomami inspiration (it really hit to me with the use of japanese words) In spain people really questioned Rosalia for that shift in her career but i do believe she somehow set the way for new artist to explore it. As a result C,xoxo is just that follow up in the motomami energy and vibe. While the timing might wanna make us relate this album to Brat (and I may agree up to some point) this album is a clear example of how motomami and latin underground culture are making its way into the mainstream. Also I do kind of think that the messy feeling actually suits the record vision and mesaage, like I am out of a relationship, summer is coming so who cares? While I don’t think this sound is authentic for her by any means, I don’t think it is as horrible as people make it out to be. The Charli inspiration is very evident, but the problem is that she didn’t reinvent the sound in a way that is true and unique to who she is an artist. It’s very evident that the purpose of this sudden change in style was to create shock value and profit off of it, with no intent of artistically challenging herself. If she cut most of the features and worked with the proper producers, it could be a solid project. My biggest problem is that her vocals sound muffled and messy at times. I think she is past the point of achieving mainstream success anymore. If she plays her cards right, she can have a strong underground following(ie. Carly Rae Jepsen or Charli). I don’t think this album/era will taint her career forever, but she definitely needs to spend the next few years cleaning up and establishing her sound if she wants people to take her seriously.

Camila has the foundations of a cult following. I mean when I attended that boat party, there were ride or dies. She has the talent as well, but agreed on a singular unique vision. I felt Interscope wanted her to more or less serve as their Charli or alt party girl and fabricated a persona to match. It just wasn’t completely well-formed or something she felt an explicit tie to. Songs like Twentysomethings and even June Gloom point to her preferring being more of a ballads girl than anything. While Dream-Girls and Pretty When I Cry allude to her having potential in different areas. I LUV IT was a poor lead single (even if it was camp.)

Just got listening to it so far don’t want to give a full explanation bc I’m a slow burner/grower type when it comes to albums, EPs, mixtapes etc but so far I do think there was some potential to the album I like the Miami influenced sound, there’s a hint of world building and introspection in its songwriting but it isn’t fully fleshed out and developed, the concept for it had potential but again not fully developed or flushed out. Someone made a point that camile should’ve made this year a droplet era and then fully release the album next year, Rihanna did this in 2014-2015 before dropping anti and Rosalia did this 2020-2021 before dropping mototami, should’ve done some collabs/features and release at least 2-3 singles before rolling out the album once she fully developed her ideas for it. I haven't finished watching the video but I want to say this record was a mixed bag for me. I personally wish she went with a more experimental, distirted, jarring sound like on Chanel No5. I absolutely love that song's instrumental, mainly because the piano is very distorted. The sound is jarring and definitely disonant at some points but that's what I love about it. That sort of sound I personally enjoy and I wish she went for that sound for the album. Maybe some random out of key synths and stuff, or like weird distorted recordings, it's weird but it sounds interesting and nice if done right.

The album doesn’t sound like charli because it sounds like Rosalia but in English. Even down to the songwriting styles I was like .. woah that’s Rosalia DOWNNNN After listening to the album, the blinds about the album being an English version of Rosalia’s MOTOMAMI were not lying. Like I’m really shook. The synths , the drums, the flamenco claps, the sounds of the album … pure Motomami. It’s actually crazy. And I don’t hate Camila but dang …. She couldn’t make it any more obvious . The way she writes certain lyrics like in B.O.A.T .. that’s Rosalia’s style. That’s where Chanel No 5 ‘s style comes from. Dade County dreaming .. is “La Combi Versace” .even down to the flamenco claps. June Gloom .. holy fvck .. she tried to make it so hidden but it’s a copy of Rosalia’s style.

She is not an authentic artist. And i find it aggravating that so many people are buying into her bs when its so transparent. People also try way too hard to be nice these days, out of fear for seeming too biased that it becomes its own form of dishonesty. If you like this album then i believe you do not like or have respect for pop music as a genre. She completely fails to embody the hedonism she wishes to portray, almost reminiscent of jojo siwa, if jojo had producers and rich men in her corner producing and marketing for her. Camila is every single bit as cringe and fake as jojo siwa. This entire comment section gives me zero faith in the taste of the general public and in the future of pop music. This is why pop is such a bore these days… because none of you seem to understand what differentiates the greats from the hacks.

@@EljohnMacaranas and this response exemplifies the problem i have with people like you having a platform. This response is the problem. Someone with a passion for and knowledge of pop music should have a voice. This emphasis on neutrality litters the landscape maintaining expectations of mediocrity. And the options that top the charts and are relentlessly pushed on social media are dull as a consequence. Tasteless people with no point of view having platforms to defend mediocrity.

I personally am not a fan of camilla's voice, but I'm curious if she's gonna help charli xcx and addison rae make hyperpop mainstream. It sounds kinda chaotic and brash for me, imo. Despite the lackluster revies, camilla is definitely here to stay. She has a fanbase, and ive seen lots of promotion.

I think I Luv It charting was more or less a sign there’s interest in brash pseudo hyperpop being mainstream but the respective backlash and perception also gives it pause. Charli’s Brat charting (at least albums wise) def alludes there’s a potential moment.

It's a cringy, awkward, hot mess of an album, yet somehow cool and fresh and weird?! I think that 8/10 is quite generous of you king,I would prob give it a 6.5, 7 if I feel generous, but I can see the appeal and there's quite a few bops all through out. The three major problems for me,1 what u said about the amount of interludes and how they don't flow throughout, 2 the production tries to be explosive and experimental but I can feel the producers toning the beat down for massive appeal, and 3 Drake (he really takes a dump an the album for me). There's magic in this album that I think will work better for me during autumn and on more gloomy days. Favorite tracks chanel No.5, He knows, Dade county dreaming, Dream-girls and June Gloom. Also, I haven't seen anyone talk about it and I didn't see anything on the credits, but June Gloom has to be an interpolation or a sample or something of Love by Lana, right? I'm not going crazy, right?!😂
