Nerd / geek culture’s so underrepresented in the black community & we could definitely do with it being more normalised, especially given the amount of great black characters in things like comics, cartoons, manga & anime.

The irony is on top of all the great characters, I think black creators who enter the space make some of the best cosplay, fanart, and content about it!

Getting to see Meghan embrace Queer, Gaming and Anime culture, both things she’s been heavily inspired by, while keeping everything she’s strong at and that makes her music distinctly hers. I’ve been a long time fan of Meghan since around the Tina snow era to be exact and I’ve been rooting for her. She’s easily my favorite female rapper and maybe my favorite rapper of all time, (Kendrick is my favorite male rapper and I don’t know who I like more). This record feels like the record Meghan has been trying to release and I think it serves as a great point to restart her career in away similar to Camila’s C,XOXO. I’m glad you can hear echos of Meghan’s influences on the album too, the Notorious B.I.G., Lil' Kim, Queen Latifah, Eve, Three 6 Mafia, Trina, Salt-N-Pepa, Missy Elliott, Foxy Brown, DR.Dre, Q-Tip, Her mom and Lauryn Hill can be heard through out this record and for the more pop and rock leaning stuff JPop, K-pop, Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, Mariah Carry, Imogen heap, and Rock music (idk her rock influences off the top of my head, sorry guys) can be felt on the record, I can’t wait for the deluxe, this record is easily a 10/10 and my favorite Meghan project since “Something for the hotties”

She gets a lot of flack for being unpretentious. I think she’s so clear and honest from her image to the music and people mistake that as a gimmick when she really dgaf 😭

It’s a good business move to be big in Japan. They’re loyal to artists they love. She’s also exploring her personal journey and likes. The vocals on the record is well produced.

It’s definitely a huge improvement from Traumazine which I’d consider her weakest album. Her self titled is very cohesive and versatile and is definitely her best work yet.

Traumazine has some great hooks and production but the label def made her feel choked and forced at times on that record

I was so scared that I didn’t click with this record on first listen, but it just keeps getting better. I should’ve known as I didn’t click with boa on first listen but now it’s one of my fav songs of the year

I totally agree. I love this record a lot. I was so sad that she didn’t come to boston outside of a festival. Seeing the 18 song track list threw me off and I agree that a few tracks blended in for me. Despite this long track list, I really do want a deluxe version before she moves on because this album was brilliant.

I feel like she could do a killer EP extension for this. Her EPs tend to be liked more bc they’re curated and sharper but I think she needed to put out 18 tracks to flex and maybe use the data to find out what fans want. Either way, I warmed up to some of the tracks I didn’t like (Mamushi)

I really liked this album! I knew I would be excited after hearing the singles (Boa is my jam and I love it) but it exceeded my expectations. The songs I'd cut personally would be: Find Out, Spin, Down Stairs DJ, and probably Mamushi. Maybe Broke His Heart as well. I personally wish she went from Otaku Hot Girl to Boa, because both songs have anime references and I personally think it would fit better. She could put the cut tracks on a deluxe called "MEGAN: EVOLVED" or "MEGAN: HATCHED" or something. Overall, the tracklist could have some cuts, but it's a great album imo. As a die-hard Doja Cat Scarlet fan (no skip album imo) I think this was definitely in my realm and I enjoyed it

Thank you so much! I love rap as a genre and listen from time to time but rarely ever share my thoughts. I def will cover a bit more because it's probably my fave genre when it comes to writing. Like the thought and wordplay behind it, the intention and stories. Megan's one of my faves because of that!

i thought the tracklist was a little bloated as well but i think she delivered with this album overall. i feel pretty confident saying this album is her most personal and creative yet. i don’t think this is her best, but definitely not a bad one.

No, Traumazine is still her best studio album. I do think Megan is her best album lyrically by far, though. I think what's holding her back most musically, is her lack of diversity in flows, cadence, and voice.

Glad she kept the snake album cover, the other one would have further unbalanced everything the butterfly cacoon made absolutely no sense and looked tacky with the big M logo. Also it seems like she is finding herself with this album, something that separates her from everyone else and its the anime thing.
