Here I'll show you how I test this code and the equipment I use to be 100 percent sure that the diagnosis is accurate. Please remember that a plain old multimeter would miss this .

Great video Keith. I have a garage that put 2 dorman steering sensors in in a 2 week time. The 3 time it went bad was a couple months later, he insisted that the steering sensor wasn't the problem that it has to be something else, he was really pissed off by the way, and he is not to smart when it comes to electric so he didn't understand basically the same thing you showed in this video. I had 500 dollars in my pocket and bet him if he put a GM sensor in it, he wouldn't have a problem. Well to my surprise he took that bet!! He called the local gm dealer and had a sensor delivered. I was very confident my diagnosis was correct but inside I was shitting my pants and was praying to god that they delivered a good sensor! He installed the sensor and everything was good. Thank god, cause my wife would have killed me if I lost 500 dollars on a bet. I told him to keep his money and don't doubt me when I say Buy Factory parts

That Bosch line graph feature is nice. The wiring schematics on demand feature is helpful as well...a big timesaver for sure! Excellent video, great explanation (short, concise, and effective), graphed relevant scan data, examined circuit design with the wiring diagram, and then utilized the scopes channels to get everything all in one shot...I love your process! Not gonna lie, I work daily to emulate your style, method, and approach; primarily because it makes these types of diagnoses quicker. It also ensures that a guy covers all the basics...😉👍

I got this code after removing the steering column from the steering gear from replacing the pitman arm. When I had the column removed my kids were turning the wheel and spinning it around in one direction several times because it wasn’t connected to anything. You think that could’ve broken the sensor? It only comes on after I shut the truck off turn it back on and turn the wheel a little bit. I just had a new tcm flashed before all this because the truck was shutting off while driving and ‘service stabilitrak’ came on and the truck would return to normal. I don’t know if they’re related to one another. I have no other codes but c0710-17

Scope FTW! Also great that scan tool picked up on it, too! 😎 Great vid, Keith, as usual! I am REALLY diggin' that Bosch! I'm guessing it's pretty spendy ... but I'm wondering if I could forgo a monthly sub to service info and have that tool instead - that would justify the expense for me. I have nothing now (the amount of vehicles I do per month doesn't justify the cost just yet) as far as SI goes, so I'd be in much better shape with that tool.

@@NewLevelAuto i love your positive attitude Keith! You're right it probably is one guy with multiple accounts. Sad part is even that guy could learn something if he just humbled himself and watched your videos and was receptive to the valuable info you share to us. I guess it takes all kinds to make the world go round. A few weeks back FRM did a video and this guy richv5721 in the comments shits all over Ivan. So i look at his channel and he does a 20 plus minute video from his couch about Toyota cooling fans. And says a bunch of crap about Ivan not being ase certified and Ivan using the words case study. You got check him out if you get free time. I couldn't believe how assinine this guy was. Ivan in my opinion is a fricking genius. And isn't afraid to tackle anything and figure it out scientifically. Oh well I'm sorry for getting side tracked. Again thank you Keith for taking your time to teach all of us. Huh, so apparently this steering wheel sensor has both analog (potentiometer) output, and also a digital quadrature output (Phase A and B), with an additional output "C" that possibly reports some absolute position like center? If so, perhaps the system detects plausibility by comparing the results obtained from the two measurement strategies?
