Start with vanilla and take your time to get into the controlls, than you can step up. After 14kh+ in Arma i got a modpack around 50gig and more or less half of that is in use. The unused half are the mapfiles we use. In the end: nothing wrong to start the DL now^^ may take some time if you want all XD For milsim it is based on mission and or server, also on the comunity - milsimgroup. You can play milsim on vanilla, but most player want more realism... so look for a group and ask which mods are needet. Common basic mods are: CBA, TFAR/ACRE, CUP (core, terrain, units...), RHS, ACE3,..... AND not to forget! you may need some DLCs for some arma comunitys have fun

It'll be fine with medium settings I'm sure, my PC started with a GT 730 and an FX-6300, I've still got the FX but I switched out the 730 for a GTX 1050 Ti. But with my 730 it ran quite well, you should be fine.

quickly tap on WASD instead of long "holds" on the keys. You can make precise movements that way I was using WASD for this

They are AI but are controlled through a mod called GAIA so we don't know where they are or what they will do.
