This video show the removal and replacement of the spark plugs, high tension wires, and the rotor on a 5.7L 350cid V8 Chevrolet Engine. You will also see the spark plug gapping procedure, some refreshing of parts, and the step by step process used to get this job done. This process is more complicated than you would think.
The product I used was AC Delco - Professional Spark Plug Wires. Here are the following product numbers: ACD#9088S, GM# 88861390 , www.acdelco.com

Great video. I tried to change the wires in my '79 Corvette last night but when I got to the point where they were sandwiched in-between the motor mounts and the block, like you I couldn't believe how ridiculous the path was and convinced myself the existing wires were okay by testing them with an ohm meter. Didn't want to tug on them too hard and I didn't think of taking off the boots, actually I thought they'd be fused on to the wires. Stupid design.

I know. That is a crazy design and apparently the way the wires were originally run....through the motor mounts. I decided not to run them back through the motor mounts on the install as I really don't want to go through all that craziness if/when I replace the latest set. OMG!!!!! I am in the middle of this same job. I don’t have appropriate adjectives to describe the job lol. I am fortunate that I have the oil pan off and the starter out (powder coated the oil pan and bought a new starter) Question for you: Are you going to do your oil seals? Pulling the valve covers and rotating the engine to the appropriate spots. The big ugly in this job, which horrifies me, is pulling the spark plugs to get the screw in air line in to pressurize each cylinder in order to hold the valves in place when the keepers are removed. There’s going to be words… Your engine looks to be in about the same condition as mine, so yours may be due.

Do you have to re time it using a timing light after replacing the cap and rotor Also randok question. Does your vette have the smog pump and all the emissions stuff? Or did you delete it. I was thinking about maybe deleting the emissions stuff but dont really know enough about it.

I am expecting to redo the the timing and have my timing light ready to go...it's pretty easy to time these engines. Good question about the emission stuff and I don't have an answer right now, but will have a look at my C3 and try and determine...keeping my fingers crossed that it's a "no". Installing the new plug wires through the motor mounts as original is doable. Buts it’s a pain….ask me how I know.

Lol. I probably know how you know 😉. My new wires would not go through that area, but I've not wrapped everything up on mine and may try and thread through the engine mount area, prior to going final. Thanks for your comment , much appreciated. J

Yeah, it's a pain the first time for sure! Once you take a boot off one side it slides through pretty easy.

I wouldn't wish for my worst enemy to change the wires... Took two people 7 hours! Trying to remount the heat shield at cylinder 6 and 8 alone took 5 hours - before we gave up on it! #%&§*!

I was negatively surprised how much work was involved in just changing the wires ...it took a while ...I stepped away from the job for a day or so because this is supposed to be a hobby and enjoyable...but was pushing the limits on that, for this job. Crazy.

Are you talking about the the distributor cap, or the caps/channel that the wires go through? Let me know. J

Can someone tell me which ignition cables I need for my C3 1972 350 Corvette!? The dealers in Denmark keep giving me the wrong ones - they are too short to pass by the heat shields and through the V-shaped covers on each side of the engine. I have also asked in several Corvette forums on this topic, but apparently no one has encountered this problem...!
