On Sunday 10th June, a team of Chiltern Railways, Branch Line Society and Royal British Legion staff organised a fundraising special excursion over the now freight-only part of the old Great Central Railway (and Metropolitan Railway) route from Aylesbury to Quainton Road. The train then ran on to Calvert, Claydon Junction and reversed to Bicester. I was allowed to film this from the cab with this stop-frame animation. This was probably the last time this will happen for several years, as the line to Bicester is being taken up and replaced as part of the East-West railway.
It's a nice piece - finishing off the Metropolitan Railway camera view that was done in 1910, which then terminated at Aylesbury: this continues the drivers-eye view, 108 years later, almost up to where Betjeman filmed his "Metro-land" end sequence in 1973. Thanks to all who made this possible, and apols for the flies on windscreen - we couldn't reach to wash them off!
