🚆 Cab ride into Germany on a passenger train (IR75 Zurich - Constance/Konstanz (D))

Күн бұрынWelcome aboard the IR75, connecting Lucerne to Constance. We‘re in Zurich, ready to depart and headed for Constance, Germany. Our journey goes via Airport and Winterthur to Frauenfeld and Weinfelden. A left turn takes us onto the former MThB (Mittelthurgau Railway, now THURBO) Route to Kreuzlingen, 20‰ steep uphill and downhill again, through a beautiful landscape with view onto Lake Constance. A few minutes stop in Kreuzlingen and then follows the final stretch to Constance, where we will see German signalisation and cross the border into Germany.

This old man has been going to switzerland for the last 63 years! Helps to have swiss parents. Always admired the sbb. Have plenty of memories of AE7s whistling up the valley in Glarus and the clanking of the arrival and departure bells on the station.

I am always (pleasantly) surprised by the number of double slips on main running lines, and elsewhere on Swiss and other continental railways, especially where the running speed is comparatively high. They have all but disappeared here in Ireland. Congratulations on consistently high-standard and very enjoyable videos.

The exit frrom Zurich Hbf was rather sinuous, I suppose it was of necessity. Compared to the rest of the stations on the route (ex-MThB) the station at Constance has a look of mild neglect, but then - it is DB, isn't it? I reckon that if you can put up with the A/C noise then so can we. Also we have the benefit of a volume control, you don't!

Constance (Konstanz) is a german town on the border with Switzerland. The local transport, howewer, connect also the near village of Kreuzlingen, last station on the swiss side.

Yes it is unbelieveable, but indeed the border is at 1:08:24 with that black person on those 3 red/yellow signs. That crossing in the right hand corner is still Switzerland, but that one 10 meters further is Germany.

that air conditioning's very noisy isn't it. Some interesting towers as you take the line branching off out of Zurich around 3:30. Now that's a nice bridge 22:06. Nice old loco sheds still in use at Winterthur.

The cab air conditioning on those cab cars is rather noisy isn't it; you can tell when the loco's in a neutral section and the power goes off at 8:00.

I enjoyed the video, but suggest you could improve it by editing out the waiting time in each station by cross fading, plus a map displaying the route would have been useful at the start. Thank you anyway.

Schöne, ruhige Aufnahmen bei gutem Wetter. Da in Deutschland Rechtsverkehr ist, stehen die Signale rechts vom Gleis. Die Schweiz hat Linksverkehr, da müssten die Signale links vom Gleis stehen ?

Genau, das Einfahrsignal von Konstanz wird vom dortigen Fahrdienstleiter bedient. Ab dem Einfahrsignal gelten vollständig deutsche Vorschriften und Regeln, weswegen es - auch nur für so ein kurzes Stück - eine zusätzliche Prüfung braucht.

Hallo RE - herzlichen Dank für das tolle Video einer weniger bekannten Strecke. Besonders eindrücklich finde ich die Doppelschlaufe zwischen Weinfelden und Kreuzlingen, die erst aus Führerstandssicht so richtig bewusst wird. Frage: bei ca. 0:40 kommt ein Löschzug entgegen - mir fällt auf, dass diese Züge dauernd unterwegs sind - was ist der Sinn dahinter? Danke für eine eventuelle Antwort - Gruss Remo

Wenn sie nicht im Einsatz sind, sind die LRZ ab und zu unterwegs als Training für die Lokführer. Fahrzeugbedienung, Streckenkenntnis auffrischen etc.

Das ist normal, im Fernverkehr werden Ansagen im Führerstand nicht ausgegeben. Einzige Ausnahme ist der 511er, dessen Ansagen im Füherstand hörbar sind.

Thanks for not just the perfect ride-along but also a bit of enlightenment - assuming this train ran the full distance from Luzern, I'm getting the sense that the Löwenstraße/DML route is reserved for IC services and IR etc have to endure the time penalty of changing ends in the traditional station - how true is that? It would surely make transfers between IC and IR in Zürich HB harder \m/

Hmm, good point, but not actually true. It depends on many factors which train goes through where. There is an IR in Löwenstrasse, the so called "Flugzug" from Zürich Airport to Basel SBB. And many S-trains, too, so definitely not only ICs.

On a run like this one, how large is the crew on board? I assume there is staff in the passenger carriages.

In the cab we're usually alone (except to take apprentices with us, checkrides etc.), in the back there's at least one, usually two up to four or sometimes even more train staff members. On Intercity and Eurocity services is an additional restaurant crew.

I’ve been watching your videos for some time now but, I still can’t fathom out where the 3 beeps come into play?…here in England there are electronics between the rail line that sets off a beep to tell where the train is along the track but, I can’t see what triggers the 3 beeps. Can you please explain and I’m sorry if this gets asked many times...

Wie wäre es für Konstanz, die Engstelle nördlich des Bf durch einen zweigleisigen Tunnel zu ersetzen? Würde besonders die Stadt von Bahnlärm sehr nah an der Bebauung entlasten.

Hallo Le Bro - die Züge von Kreuzlingen nach Konstanz verkehren meist nur im "Schritttempo". Ich denke ein zweigleisiger Tunnel würde da lärmmässig nicht viel bringen ausser enormen Kosten.

In locomotives or EMUs, sounds from the inverters, traction motors or gears dominate. Since in the control car the AC is the only noise, the camera picks it up, admittedly a little worse than it is in real life. It is quite loud, but we got used to it. It's like the ticking from older tachographs, we simply don't hear it anymore.

I just love your videos. As a real-life train driver in Spain I enjoy these videos so much. What an impressive scenery you have on your front windscreen! Also I would like to ask, or better, suggest, that for future videos, it would be very nice if you put in the screen the max. allowed speed, for example between two stations, for the track section, like @dulevoz (kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nrSna6ul2pzUfX0.html) does on his videos. Thumbs up if anyone agrees.

Well, I gave you a thumbs up, but I don't really agree, please let me explain why: Our vmax is defined very different when compared to other countries. The same stretch can be driven with as low as 35km/h and as high as 160km/h, depending on the type of train and its brakes. Each train has its brakes calculated and the braking ratio therefore defines the maximum speed. I admit, it would be pretty much the same for most passenger trains (except for tilting trains), but this is one of the reasons I don't include vmax information in my videos. I also personally prefer a clean view out of the cab, without any obtrusive text - except for the stations and crossings/switches. If you want to know the vmax of a stretch, feel free to ask!

Weils völlig egal ist auf welchem Gleis gefahren wird. Ab Tägerwilen fährt links die Thurbo, dort müssen wir also rechts durch.

Veeeery good, I like to hear that. I agree the windscreen got quite dirty, but it was clean from the start. That's what happens when a train blasts through the country. I can't clean it while I'm on the way, the window washer and wipers would just make it a bigger mess. Check 1:02:10 for example - you can even hear the bugs hitting the windscreen, it sounds like rain.

hallo Railway emotions werde in Zukunft ihre Video´s weniger anschauen. Weil soviel Werbung in Ihren Video´s gezeigt wird und das alle ca. 5 min, das ist mir leider zuviel, Nur bei Ihren Französischen Kollegen Rail Occitan und co. wird überhaupt keine Werbung geschaltet. Das finde ich sehr merkwürdig.

Mir wurde in den Video nur einmal Werbung gezeigt. Bei einem Video von 1 Stunde, kann ich mit 4-5 kurzen Werbepausen leben. Schließlich darf sich der Zeitaufwand ja auch lohnen.
