In this video you can enjoy the cab ride - train driver's view on the Croatian Railways train between the town of Novska and Tovarnik near the Serbian border in 4K/60 frames per second from the train HŽ class 6112-100 manufactured by the Končar factory (named after Rade Končar).
The railway line between Dobova and Tovarnik, operating the length of Croatia East-West via Zagreb, is the country's most important rail line, and part of the Pan-European corridor X.
It is also the most advanced and busiest, being completely electrified and consisting mostly of double tracks. Longitudinally it crosses Croatia's Northern regions Slavonia, Posavina, and the Greater Zagreb Region, connecting the most economically developed towns in Croatia.
Vinkovci (four track splits: towards Osijek, Vukovar, Županja, and Brčko in Bosnia and Herzegovina, before the Croatian War of Independence, this was one of the biggest East European junction stations, for both passengers and freight) The connection towards Osijek was severely damaged in the Croatian War of Independence. Repairs began in 2003 and in December 2008 the line was reopened.
The line is designed and built for 160km/h operation, but this speed is allowed on only a few sections - recently rebuilt Novska-Okučani and a section beyond Vinkovci to the border with Serbia. Plans are to repair the whole line to 160km/h speed, funding being provided by the EU cohesion funds in the following period. At some point in the future, intercity (or international train to Belgrade) should cover this same distance (150km) in a bit above one hour (compared to 2,5 hours for passengers and 2 hours for intercity trains today).
Sit Back, Relax, and Enjoy watching this full-length scenic rail trip video in 4K quality.
This Relaxing Video is best watched on a 4K big-screen TV sitting on a cosy sofa or armchair.

It's not because Croatia is so big but because trains are slow. Though, due to it's funny shape of Croatia distances are much larger than expected (you need circle of about 500km across to fit Croatia). So seasonal night train from Osijek to Split does travel the distance of almost 700km (which is almost as long as Munchen-Hamburg, Rome-Torino or longer than Paris-Nice).

They really need to upgrade this line so it could maintain speeds of 130 to 160 km/h (81 to 99 mph) almost all the way. There are relatively few curves, so such higher speed operation is possible.

There is a plan to modernize everything to 160km/h end-to-end, they did few shorter bits (Novska-Okučani and later Vinkovci-Tovarnik), so hopefully one day we'll have nice 160km/h all the way.

@@ZvonimirZelenika As good as it sounds I'm curious why not going for 200 km/h like it was done by our neighbours in Serbia between Belgrade and Novi Sad and is planned ahead to the border with Hungary?! Serbia is by no means richer and better off country than Croatia as the EU member and more powerful economy. 160 km/h at the most important international route in Croatia seems too mediocre thought this is gonna be much faster than it is now. Isn't it logical when doing major modernization to go with much higher standards?

Another long journey through a fascinating country, perfectly captured by the camera with a varied and wonderful cloudy sky! I only finished it today, divided into everyday doses - no problem, unlike a real train journey, you don't necessarily have to get to your destination on the same day ☺️ Again I experienced many typical Eastern European peculiarities such as the sometimes very long freight ramps including the freight sheds or the almost always very narrow intermediate platforms! I hope that the Croatian railway will soon keep the speed the same throughout... "chugging along" at 60 kilometers per hour is not only annoying for the travelers in the long run: at 160 km/h the journey would also end quicker for the spectators - but as the beautiful saying from Confucius goes: "The journey is the destination..." 😄

Freight ramps had various functions - loading of the agricultural produce (on some stations You used to see huge hills of sugar beet, before transport was moved to trucks directly from fields), also traditionally various cargo was sent/received on all stations (including post). There is also another use that has been often mentioned and that is loading of military vehicles (including tanks) on the flat cars, as Yugoslavia was bit paranoic and many things were adjusted for the defence/army requirements. Note all the bunkers along the line - some are German "blockhaus" from WW2, but they were either kept or additional ones were built.
@wandajackson3410
@wandajackson3410 12 күн бұрын
Here in Germany, these ramps were/are much shorter, and the goods sheds are not as long... And that's right: here too, these ramps were and are used to load military vehicles, mainly tanks! I experienced this often during my time in the military when the 15-month conscription still existed 😊 Thank you for your detailed information and best wishes 🖖

i dont understand why line speeds are so low for the most part between Novska and Vinkovci. i tought in the late 1980s they were able to maintain a constant 160 km/h on them? low line speeds between Stara Pazova (SRB) and Novska (CRO) are one of the reasons why theres not much traffic on this line as before (not to mention dumb border controls and competition from air travel, especially low cost carriers)... hopefully in the future we will be able to see this change, the sooner the better!

There'll be a massive investment in to this line, around €1.4 billion from Dugo Selo to Tovarnik allowing for speeds of up to 160kmph, but longer term, when market for this line matures I am sure they'll raise speeds to 250kmph. A serious problem here is, that there are around 20 crossings that'll need to be devolved and separated from the road traffic, meaning underpasses and overpasses would need to be built, I think they've started already building several as we speak, but eventually they'll need to do this for the entire route, and yes speeds would then permit speeds of up to 250kmph. Modernization of the line should start in 2025, and be completed by 2030, few sections were completed, Novska - Okucani, on that section you can already see ETCS installed, BTW ETCS level 1 allows for speeds of up to 200kmph, although upgrade to level 2 isn't difficult and requires some investment. 2nd track on route between Dubo Selo - Novska is a priority, €700 million project is in design stage, which should be completed by end of this year, with tender process for works starting late this year or early next, with completion date of max 3 years from acceptance. Okucani - Vinkovci 131km section design phase is complete and Government should announce tender process for works in few months at the latest. Again works should start if all runs smoothly by end April next year and take around 3 years. Value of the project is around €570 million, in all project documentation/design, planning and actual project phase will cost around €1.4 billion and covers 214km of 268km of the line length.

(do rata). To samo pokazuje nedostatak vizije. Vlak na ovom putu itekako moze biti alternativa autoputu, ako je dovoljno brz. I udoban ofkors.
@ZvonimirZelenika
@ZvonimirZelenika 18 күн бұрын
Iznad 160km/h se dosta toga mijenja - da, pruga jest ravna no iznad 160km/h trebaš radijski signalni sustav (ETCS Level 2), denivelaciju svih željezničko-cestovnih prijelaza (a ima ih dosta cijelim putem), ogradu oko cijele pruge, kvaliteta i pruge i kontaktne mreže i mnogo drugih stvari.

@@ZvonimirZelenika just a minor thing that i would like to point out. if i recall well, in Sweden there are level crossings that allow trains to go thru at 200 km/h, but this requires lots and lots of equipment such as object detectors, variable sensors that close the barrier earlier in case the train is moving slow, etc. i dont know if any other countries does this (or even if its true) but i remember seeing it in a video that explained Swedish level crossings. but idk if other countries have the ability to do this, and having seen Croatian level crossings, i dont think they wanna bother with that sort of stuff, they just want to keep them cheap (much like Romania sadly). i agree that the railway should allow for speeds of 200 km/h, but this should be done in a two-stage program. to explain, the Berlin-Hamburg railway was initially modernised for speeds of 160 km/h in the early 1990s, and then to speeds of 230/250 km/h in the early 2000s (albeit this happened because of the cancellation of the commercial Maglev project by the German government), and i think this is what should be done, aim for 160 first, but make sure the railway can be modernised for 200 in the future without much change. provisions have to be there basically. theres lots of railway lines in Eastern Europe that have the potential to reach the 200 km/h goal but stop short of it because they wanna cut costs (in my native Romania, the Bucharest-Fetești stretch of the line to Constanța is an example of it), and its a big shame.

Koji smo drek uopce obnavljali onda ako elaborat o obnovi nije sadrzavao i obnovu kontaktne mreze?! Sto smo tocno modernizirali?! This was an interesting video, but for all the wrong reasons! The line is largely flat without any sharp curves. It is electrified double track with modern signalling. (Contrast other Croatian lines you have shown.) But most of the line desperately needs modernising, with a line speed of at least 160kph throughout. The stations need modernising to eliminate the need for passengers to cross the tracks on the level. But given the current sparse traffic, both passenger and freight, would modernisation be worth it?

There is a service between Croatia and Serbia on this line, however you need to stop at the border on Croatian side, for passport check, takes around 30 min. But on Serbian side stop is slightly longer as they do more thorough check, this is both ways. Croatia is in the Schengen and once you cross in to Croatia, there are no border checks beyond first one at Tovarnik. Once Train crosses in to Serbia, Croatian engine is switched and Serbia one takes over. The carriages are mostly Slovenian State Railways and train Stops at Ljubljana, Dobova where Engine is switched and then with Croatian engine but Slovenian railways carriages train continues on to Zagreb and further to Serbia.

@@avarielhr is it the pedal that the driver presses and it is located under the control panel of the train?

@@ecijojakic2917 I don't know the layout of this unit, but what I remember from the train simulators, it should be just a button on the panel in front of the driver. Hopefully, someone will see this answer and give a precise info.

That is how Croatian Railway operate on junctions - trains some in waves to enable all directions of transfers (Varaždin, Zabok also good examples). Not enough trains for clockface "takt", but still enables all possible transfers. This is also working/school day, many high-school students travel by train (as it's free).
