I love stuffed cabbage and was looking for an easy and fast alternative to the recipe. I’m definitely going to make this, minus the cheese. Thanks for all the wonderful recipes you share. Hi Catherine. I started doing cabbage rolls this way years ago when I cooked for an assisted living facility. They had cabbage rolls on the menu, but it was to hard for people to cut and eat. They kept sending uneaten plates back to the kitchen. When I did it this way, they all loved it. It was much easier for them to eat, and did not take nearly as long for the kitchen crew, which was just me lol, to get in the oven. It was a win win. I love doing it this way in the instant pot.

May I ask how you do it in the instant pot, as in how long do you cook it and do you just put everything in it at once? I’m intrigued. I love my instant pot.

I brown the meat, usually on the stove because I get burn messages if I sear meat in the pot. I shed the lettuce and then just add everything in the pot. Make sure you have enough tomato sauce and water to cook the rice. I pressure cook on high for about 30 minutes and let it slow release. If it is not quite done you can always give it more time. So much easier than filling and rolling cabbage leaves. @@bookworm5708

This looks wonderful Catherine!😍 A lot of people love cabbage rolls but don't make them because they're so involved and it takes time and patience to make them!😋 I really like the way you deconstructed it and added more cabbage!😘 It's funny how this is a cabbage dish and the only cabbage in it is wrapped around the meat mixture.😢 But leave it to Catherine to rearrange the ingredients, adding more of the star ingredient!😚 I don't think I've ever had a cabbage roll with cheese on it.🤔 But cheese is a must for any type of casserole.☺️ You're always working to make our lives easier and adding more flavor to make these dishes great!🤩 Thanks for sharing another great recipe!🥰

I'm from WV and we are going into some hotter weather for about the next week. When the cooler weather sets in I'm going to surprise my daughter-in-law with this for dinner. I have a cabbage roll recipe given to me about 40 years ago from an elderly Polish woman. The recipe calls for grape jelly. I may go with that. Great idea!

Interesting, I am from WV, my Mom put golden raisens in her cabbage rolls. They were delicious. She developed Dementia and swore she never made cabbage rolls.

Cabbage rolls are my specialty! Excited to see your take on them, as mine are VERY labor intensive, but also VERY delicious. I used to make them for my mother's birthday every year, as she loved how I made them. My recipe is quite different from most that Ive seen. I coat them in flour, fry them, add my tomato gravy with my secret ingredient (brown sugar) and then pop them in the oven to bake for a while. I learned this technique from a former Latvian boyfriend. I also don't add rice, because I forgot it the first time, and discovered I liked them better that way. I serve them with sour cream for garnish and mashed potatoes as a side. Hoping to find an easier way. ❣ We had a restaurant here in suburban Cleveland, OH that had been here since the dawn of time, but they closed down last year and their's were delicious.

This was delicious. We are having it again tonight. We do not eat a lot of cabbage and buying a whole head would go to waste for just the two of us. I used a bag of slaw mix instead. It was the perfect amount. Cooked quickly and the slivers of carrots in it gave the dish a nice crunch. Outside of that I followed the recipe exactly. Love your channel.

I did the same thing. I got tired of rolling the leaves and just cooked it all together and it tastes the same. But I serve it on cooked rice and use a can of tomato sauce.

Going to use this as a guide....I have thrive freeze dried food for the beef onions and cheese. Going to precook the rice to make sure it's cooked through cause the meat is already cooked. Hope it comes together quickly. Update. Delicious

So deliciious! Its simmering on my stove top right now and it taste great! I used beef bone broth, ground turkey for my meat and used Quaker Quick Barley instead of rice. I did use a little more broth because I bought a pretty big cabbage, probably another 1/4 cup as you recommended. I also printed off the Cabbage Role Crockpot soup to try another day. Looking forward to trying that one too! If you love cabbage rolls then this is a winner! Thank you Catherine!

I'll pass on the cheese, thank you, but the cabbage looks delish! I make stuff cabbage casserole when I don't feel like doing the rolls. I also make Lazy Stuffed Peppers this way in a deep skillet. Both are fab. Thanks, Catherine!

Looks delicious, but this would be more of a southwest casserole to me. My cabbage rolls are cooked in tomato soup concentrate and sauerkraut for that good German or Eastern European flavor.

While your recipe looks very good I was taught to make cabbage rolls by an old Slavish woman. She never used cheese. I never heard of using cheese until you included it. Will have to ask my family first. She did however use ground pork also

The cheese is optional so feel free to leave it out, we like the addition of the cheese.
