Nice job man was thinking of getting the 10x10 they stopped making your size which stinks. Was wondering the stove jack is that 5 inch?

Papa Romes Outdoors i think it is 4” but I’m not positive. I had a 3” stove jack sewn into the inner zipper part. It works great

enjoyed the review, did you have any issues with condensation? i had the Alaknak and it was horrible for condensation.

No. It's a double wall tent. Can leave some vent open on the inside part if really humid or cold. But no real problems ever. Is the Alaknak a single wall? I've had a few single walls including tipi's where it's inpossible not to have the walls soaked inside. Often dripping on my sleeping bag. On the double wall the condensation forms on the inside of the outer wall. So it stays out of the interior of the tent.

@@cocheran yes. it was a single wall, it was dripping so bad we had to scoop water off the tarp floor. we ended up sleeping without a fire the last few nights. it was probably in the low teens at night.

any follow up info with this tent?? Did you have an extra stove jack sewn in?

Justin Edelman yes I did have one sewn in. Unfortunately haven't had a chance to test it out. I had it on my mule deer hunt in Colorado. I show the stove jack part that is sewn in in my video on here of the 2016 mile deer hunt. I'm afraid condensation may be an issue but don't know yet. I had a trip planned a couple weeks ago for the video but the whole family decided to come so we stayed in a hotel

Nice video. Thinking of this tent. You made set up look easy Is this designed for solo set up? Would you buy this one again or consider the Bighorn or Alaknak for a base camp? Thinking of setting it up for a 2 1/2 month base camp. I’ll use it one straight week and then weekends only there after.

Ive set it up a dozen times by myself. It is a chore though. I’ve set it up and then immediately shot a deer and then tore it down and moved to elk country. Slept in a little tent. Then set it up the next day. I think I would prefer it to those if not to many people. Its not as straight walled, but It’s very cozy. Being completely two walled. I’ve never had any condensation problems either. I think we had around 14 in it a couple nights with a bunch of kids. I’ve had 6 cots set up in it before. I feel the shape would be stronger in wind in weather. I replaced the steaks and the big rope with small paracord and aluminum tensioners. Got the weight down some. I don’t think they make this exact model still. This one is 14ft long. Maybe they still have a longer version than the 10x10 though.

Justin Cocheran Thank you for the quick reply. Most would be 2 people and plan to use 2 cots and wood stove. My concern would be snow or rain causing pockets. I think you make a lot of sense on the 2 wall and shape being better for winds. I can buy the 10x10 less than $600. Opposed to the Big Horn and Alaknak at $900 - $1000. Any other advise would be appreciated.

Buckdragger sorry i just seen this reply. Yeah the 10x10 sounds perfect for two like that. I had another stove jack sewed into the inner layer of mine. To replace the mesh layer. I don’t know if they’ve updated the newer ones that way. But i think it would have far less issues with pockets of water or snow than the other designs. Being a dome.

Justin Cocheran thanks again. One last question for you. I have a 15 year old Cabela’s Alaskan Guide series that I could use. The one like yours is apparently going to be discontinued and the local Cabela’s has it on sale for $599. Do you think there is enough of difference to justify buying the one like yours or would you stick with the Alaska. Guide? Yours looks to be easier to set up, has a flap that covers the entire bottom and a feature in the center helps shed snow etc... would like your opinion. Thanks

Buckdragger I’m not real familiar with that tent. But if it’s a quality dome tent big enough for your needs it’s probably good. The stove part is kinda just for fun. Not really a necessity. But if camping by the car you can keep it heated all night with a large stove and 3hr burn logs. I’m always looking at new tents though. Last year i bought a super light black diamond but the condensation is terrible. This year I bought a kuiu backpacking tent. One big tent I find real intriguing, is the new stone glacier 6 person. But hasn’t been released yet. Probably similarly to the cabelas 10x10 but they make a lot of really light stuff. It’s two layer with stove jack though.

Hey there....thanks so much for posting a video on this tent! I agree with you on your points made throughtout the video. I wish the stove jack would not be precut so you could cut your hole to fit. or they could have done an X instead of the full cut out. Im guessing you already completed your trip already, so I will be looking for the additional videos to see the tent in action. What is the rope to your right as your speaking at the end of the video (on the inside of the tent)? Is it for a closeline across the inside? Also..i hope you can provide more insight on how this tent will work with a small stove as well. I just wanted to post my comments before leaving the page. I have had my eye on this tent since it came out because of the stove jack. I currently have the old version of the 8 man Alaskan Guide Tent with the deluxe vestibule. If my tent had the stove jack and floor cut it...it would be perfect! And they finally came out with that version! the Cabelas instinct tent. Oh....and I just checked the cabelas website....the damn thing is on sale right now for 750!!

rbljackson that rope is a strap that goes across for more stability in high winds. I took it out with the stove and a lot of flies came in the un zippered part in the tent. It got really fast which was good. There was a lot of condensation on the inside of the fly but none in the tent. I recently had another stove Jack sewn in the screen part of the tent. Going hunting with it in Colorado in November. I'll get some video.

Jay Hicks I got lazy with the filming. I've set it up 3 times in Colorado. One with the stove in it. The stove makes it way hot fast which is awesome. Flys did get in with the top of the tent open and I'm sure it let the heat escape fast. I've since had the mesh in the top replaced with tent material and another stove jack. I'm worried about condensation now but haven't tried it yet.

The first time set up in Colorado we had a bunch of kids and slept 14 of us in it. Had 4 Queen mattresses inside. It was 33 degrees outside when we woke up and was 65 inside from the body heat. I thought that was awesome. I bought two little thermometers at Walmart to leave on the inside and outside to test it.

Cool I was looking at arctic oven they are to much money This tent would be great Would you buy this tent again
